I have a small pinus sylvestris brought from a local nursery here in Northern California but they didn’t have more info on the label. It survived the hottest summer here with temperatures up to 45 degrees Celsius. It’s a disadvantage weather though. It has small needles and it’s so beautiful. In summer I had to put a shade material and I used mist twice a day. Lovely video thanks ❤

I'm also from Northern CA. Ever go to the Lake Merritt Bonsai Museum?

I love learning about a pine variety new to me, even if it might not be suitable for my climate. Thanks to commenters who provided information about its origin. Heron's forest is amazing, as well as Peter's recollection of its history.

Great video Peter and Kevin. I had a Beauvronensis Pine some years ago and unfortunately lost it due to incorrect repotting technique. I was very sorry to lose it. I never see them in garden centres these days unfortunately.

😂Kevin is so funny talking about ten gin the old tree - Peter’s voice was shaky and Kevin was laughing before even getting the words out of his mouth haha Wonderful friendship and talents

Funny to hear you talk about Boskoop in the Netherlands. I worked there and there is many companies growing trees and even bonsai. I would love to hear you talk about more stories from there if you have them.

Beuvron-en-Auge is a village considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in France. I would guess the Beuvronensis pines originated from, or was inspired by, Beuvron-en-Auge.

Can you carve the excess off of the graft reverse taper to create a one thickness trunk and the tree survives?
@peterchan3100Күн бұрын
Dangerous to do that.

Hi Peter. It would be nice on your videos to say what month your in when doing the work. Great videos though. 👍

I notice you are doing more collaborations with other artists this year. Personally, I would find a collaboration video with Bonsai Releaf interesting. He has pretty much the complete opposite approach to bonsai that you do, which I think would make for an interesting tension in a project.
@peterchan3100Күн бұрын
Our approach to Bonsai is quite different - that's why it is so interesting when we meet together.

@peterchan3100 Nice. A video with him and an update on that beautiful restoration of that half dead juniper from a few years back are on the top of the list of things I'd love to see.

Beautiful tress, Peter I know you don’t like to talk about the value of the trees, what would’ve cost of one of these?
@peterchan3100Күн бұрын
NO I dont mention prices for fear of burglary - I have already had 2 big robberies in 2024.

I'm wondering what the bonsai “rules” are? What I mean by that is that Is that a lot of species are forced into shapes that they would never get when they grow in the wild. So there's no rule that species have to look like miniatures of there natural species?
@peterchan3100Күн бұрын
Certainly not.
