I will never forget the first time I opened my newly bought Hero Quest game as a kid! The atmosphere it presented from the dark art style and all the minis and furniture has never been surpassed by any other board game. Figuring out the rules as a little kid in Denmark was a little hard though :) Very well made video guys! Love that you took your time to create atmosphere and graphics. Good job.

(also dane here) I was 8 in 1990 when I got it for christmas. Never understood the rules and just played with the figures for years until the game was unfortuatly lost somehow. I were reminded of the game a week ago and the nostalgia is overwhelming - I'm gonna snipe a good condition old game from 1990 so my 3 kids and mostly myself can play it. 😃

We definitely went greed mode the last time I played this game. I was just wandering around, trying to help out as the dwarf, and the greedy barbarian (my college roommate) kept going for the chest. He wound up dying just about every game, and since I was in the room at the time, I got all his stuff. My dwarf retired with a magic suit of armor and a very nice axe.

Interesting keyhole House Rule, I would Use this House Rule though, Players Order is determined by them each round, so that they don't block each other off, Zargon can move his Monsters in any order it is only fair players can as well, but they most do there full turn moves and actions then the next guy till all 4 have completed there turn.

Wow! No idea how I came across this video at random, but glad I did. Used to love this game as a kid. I think the general concept has been done in more recent years much better, but Hero Quest was maybe the last board game I ever played, so I haven't tried the supposedly-better ones. Hero Quest remains the best board game I've personally ever played!

What a stupid house rule. Whether a monster can move or not is dependent on whether it's revealed or not. Your house rule means you have to ignore core rules. The game is already designed and balanced for heroes not knowing what's in a room before they open the door. Your change also means you have to manually remember which monsters have been activated.
@Trevin_Taylor

How can he be serious about that house rule?!?! First off, who say's they have a keyhole in them? I know the majority of dorrs, modern or medieval don't! Also, doesn't that screw with the play of the game? There is no risk of opening a door if you know some of what's on the other side! Done with this video.

I'm just curious as to what happened to the treasure cards. Basically it cuts off the chance of finding treasure and items to help. It also reduces chance encounters to zero. Having to not open a door in order to see what's inside is kind of a cheat also. Video was very well done. Was enjoyable to watch. The group as a whole was fun to watch also. I've tried different rules for the die rolling myself and found that keeping it the way it is works best for gameplay. Hope to catch more videos.
@lovernatz
@lovernatz 3 жыл бұрын
@Andrew Smith it is not part of the rules at all. The only part that changes in the first quest is there is no traps or secret doors to be found. Not sure why they skipped out on treasure cards, in fact the wandering monster in the first quest (which you find in treasure cards) is an Orc stated at the bottom on the page

Purchased Nov 23 around £75 on Amazon. Wanted a dungeon crawler to play with my Little Man (7 1/2). Vast majority are too complicated. Was considering Zombiecide when HQ came to my attention: - Dungeon Crawler? Check - Good minis / pieces? Check - Easy ruleset? Check What I didn't realise HQ had was a big community that still supported the game through providing Advanced Rules, additional rulesets (Imperial Academy et al) In essence, HQ starts off as a basic ruleset with lots of scope for modularity. The community has play tested the heck out of home rules, hence there is a wealth of additional rules to incorporate if you do desire.

I could have enjoyed the heroquest game better, if it wasn't so dark. The overhead shots looking down on the board was hard to see any detail. I think that the viewer could have enjoyed the video better, if you had more light on the board. Perhaps tea candles, and bringing the camera angle to table level. Yeah I know, everyone is a Critic. I enjoyed the game, thanks.

To make the game a little more realistic. When they move, I play as if heroes take some space to one another. Going through one friend is 2 squares and not one. If they move, they cannot turn back or it's considered as an action.

The manual states you can choose whatever order the heroes take their turns in, but once your order is set you cannot change until the next quest. The manual does suggest that if you are new to the game you should use barb, dwarf, elf, wizard; but it is only a suggestion. A hero can also move through another hero, but they can't share the same tile of another hero.

I would like to suggest to move the skull, shield and sword at the background because you would want the viewers to focus on the game board instead of these three. I understand it adds mood to the game but it will still serve its purpose if they are in the background. In my opinion it'll be better instead of having a dark / black background. By the way, nice to have you back, TSG!
