RIP asymmetrical headlights. This bike came out when I was in highschool and I never liked the headlights. But I have grown to like it and now I miss it, now that I can appreciate such character on a bike's design.

Actually I also never liked the old headlights until the new one came out. Slowly I'm getting fond of the old design and stared hating the new one. The new one lacks the character of the old headlights.

Same here, but the new one is growing on me, like the old one did. I own the new one in red and I owned the old one in red and white (2013 model year) and still think that the old one looked better. But driving the new one......👌🏻💪🏻👊🏻

I’m in Australia & I bought the very first iteration in the tri-colour, BMW colours. It was the FIRST in those colours in Melbourne & number 3 ordered here. I loved the bike but being honest the bike was better than me.😈🤪I traded “down” to a 2015 S1000R which I still own & it still is a brilliant performer even on the track. The S1000RR DID change sports bikes then & now. I loved the asymmetrical look & that’s what got me from the start. Great “history” video👍🏼 Cheers from Down Under 🇦🇺

I'm a bit of a beemer fan boy but as much as I love the 2019/2020 version it just doesn't have the same character as to original 'crazy eye' version. Also they've screwed up calling the top spec M rather than HP. M is for car, not bikes.
@rampage3337
@rampage3337 2 жыл бұрын
M is for everything BMW. the M stands for bmw motorsports department and anything that they have designed is a M part. don't Mather if it's a 3hp scooter if they done it it's a M scooter. the M badge fits the bike 10x better than the HP badge does. HP stands for higher performance but it don't sell bikes and it don't fit in with the rest of BMW

No one: Bmw adding VTEC to their bike before Honda does:
@observingrogue7652

The first VFR800 generation, the CB400 Super Four Hyper series, and I think some other Honda motorcycles had VTEC, before the S1000RR version.
@observingrogue7652
@observingrogue7652 4 жыл бұрын
I guess they didn't feel like it was worth the cost & effort. But I think it would have been great if Honda implimented VTEC into more of their bikes, just to stand out from their competitors, especially their Japanese ones whos quality & reliablity has caught up to Honda. Suzuki offers affordable but great bikes, including a 750cc sport bike for fence riders, and Cyclops performance bikes with some generations having intergrated signals and great comfort. Kawasaki has sharp angles, Lime green, and cheating engine sizes. Yamaha has crossplane crank, and crossplane inspired MTs What's special about Honda now, other then the Goldwing/ Valkyrie? I think they should VTEC everything, for commuting/road-trip efficiency & elegance, but you still have great performance & fun, in the same bikes. Then again, what do I know? I'm in love with Electric motorcycles, and I'm becoming sick of the mess, maintenance, complexity, and unwanted attention engines bring.

For all the performance the BMW has it hasn’t translated into a race winner on the track. Josh Herron has had his hands full this year on it compared to how he rode the R1 last year. I think the bike is just big and sits higher than the Japanese brands. Not saying it isn’t a great street bike it just hasn’t carried over to the track is all.

The best thing that ever happened on Earth is the modern symmetrical twin headlights on sport bikes. See 1998 Yamaha R1 or Ducati 916. NOTHING looks more beautiful than dual symmetrical headlights on a sportbike. Nothing. Aliens have 2 big eyes that look like a sportbike. It's the intended design of this Universe to have 2 big alien eye headlights. Predators have 2 eyes, not one blob of poop that barely lights the eyes of the deer in the forests when driving late at night. Any entity who puts a single headlight on a sportbike should be relocated to the Mars slave colonies (they have no idea what looks good and should be fired).

These bikes aren't about aesthetics but about pure performance. They are made for the racetrack primarily. That's why they are no looking so nice, or long/wide, heavy, comfortable, etc...as the bikes in same category before. They are becoming smaller, lighter, stronger, just for the pure goal of acceleration and speed. The person to buy this kind of bike, new, nowadays must be pure fanatic/racer or otherwise will sacrifice a lot compared to Sport Touring/Adventure/Naked bike... I don't like many of nowadays supersport bikes compared to those before. They don't have much point in everyday ride for me. But i sure like to see them. :)

I love riding and working on BMW motorcycles. Very few of them can be considered pretty looking. The S1000RR took not pretty to new heights (lows?). Badass bike, nonetheless.

I'm sure you love working on them, which you probably do often. As they're notorious for breaking.

The S1000rr made it's way of the Superbike Standard by using the GSXR1000R K5 engine

This is what the '08 onwards Fireblade/ CBR1000RR should've been like - BMW didn't steal it, Honda gave it away.

You failed to mention the changes from 2016 to 2017. The 15 and 16 yrs. were pretty much the same except maybe color. When the 17 model came out it had to meet the euro 4 emissions crap. Some of the changes were the extra pipe on the exhaust going into the muffler. There was close to a 10lb gain in weight and also a significant horsepower drop due to the euro 4 crap. BMW did not change their specs even though. The 15 and 16 were the best yrs of the s1000rr in it's stock form so far.

Funny how they had to buy a bunch of GSX-R 1000's and tear them apart to see how Suzuki did it to 'set the superbike standard' 😂😂

We'll I'm sure Suzuki could have done the same 😂, but they didn't. It all comes down to economics and Japan was really struggling at that time, and wasn't willing to invest in a newer models as much as the European stuff during that time.

I have huge respect for European bikes but if i were buying any motorcycle it'll be a JDM one. Cuz reliability matters.

I am the same, Japanese reliability is really amazing. I ride a 2008 Yamaha FZ6 and the only thing I need to do is oil changes and very basic maintenance. The service costs are ridiculously low. The bimmer is probably a lot more expensive to fix.

man, u can see from far this is a sponsored video....among all those 900...1000..1100 super bikes 95% of them are JDM, those bmw are good yes they are but cost twice as much, and if you really indo motoGP, you know that the dominance are 1 Honda 2-Yamaha, with suzuki in 4, BMW is not even between the 10 brands that has more winnins position. the knowledge honda has to build a best for the street, they know it will cost too much and no body is willing to pay...check that honda engine V5 that is a piece of art.
