True! Thalapathy is one of the greatest directorial ventures but the credit to story shouldn't be to Maniratnam. It's the story of karna from Mahabaratham with some plot adjusts to fit that contemporary age. However Thalapathy has always been one of my favourite movies of all time.

But u didn't mention about Santhosh Sivan bro... For me this is one of the best movies of Rajni... And if u watch the fights scenes , it's so natural than these days(no flying no jumping)👍👍 but all credit goes to the Captain of the ship Mani Ratnam...

Kabali: My take It is quite unfortunate nowadays that if you dont get to watch some of the movies the very first show, the opinionated world around you fills up your mind with their thoughts. Most of the reviewers of Kabali might have not born or probably in their nappies when Thalapathy was released. The hardcore young fans of Rajni were initially disappointed as the movie was melodramtic, sentimental and travels without any of the Rajni's mannerisms. Thanks to internet for its absence then, the movie picked up pace and went on to be a blockbuster. The idea of late pickup is essentially killed today by the hyper active social media. Sadly, this movie too might end up suffering the same fate. The business of Kabali is none of my business as I'm merely the customer for the experience of Kabali and not as a commodity. What adds more to the bad luck is that the entire internet intellects, who review the movie has miserably misread the storyline. Perhaps that one minute teaser that was released a couple of months before had set the wrong expectations I suppose. Kabali, is an emotionally engaging and has provided the opportunity for the actor in Rajni to show the world that he too is on par or more than the class. Director Ranjith, after a long time, say even a few decades, had presented us the Rajni we knew from Johny and Mullum Malarum. A very matured love story that sans unnecessary dance / item numbers is very fresh and admirable. Movie defenitely breaks the formula, set for Rajni movies and cast and crew has done justice to the plot. Dialogues are handled with care and in some places it evokes definite applause. However, just like every other movie Kabali too has flaws. A weak antagonist is a major setback. Almost no one in Tamil cinema in the present state of affairs can equal the image of Rajni and challenge him. So a Malay speaking (presumably) Chinese actor is brought in and Rajni, in almost all of his encounters with him carries a supporting team. So an enduring dual to establish the strength and weakness of the protagonist, an essential build-up to show case the massis missing, thus fails to trigger the right chord among the young, but thankfully the movie is not about them. Also, the entire movie revolves only around Rajni and the people around him suffocate for space to register an alternate perspective on the character of hope, the hero. Having said that, Kabali is thorough entertainer and one would enjoy it fully if they belong to the Rajni fan clan of Johnny era. Regards Anand R
