Well, back then it was jury vote only. It's harder today to win from first position because of the televote. Juries are not affected by running order because they have to listen to and evualate every performance.

Probably not but mainly because of the performance. These days in Eurovision you have dancers, a lot of lights and movement, while the most movement they do here is bending their knees and spinning. It was actually a bit retro when they replicated this performance in the semi-finals.

Wow, I didn't remember, but when they sang it tonight for the 40th anniversary it just clicked and I went back to my childhood and started clapping and dancing and singing along! I loved it then and I love it now even though I don't understand a word 😊. They were as great tonight as then, so I had to look it up here. Much better real music back then, without the need for extras but talent. They say there is an English version, so I'm going to search for it. "Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley" was the winning song in the Eurovision Song Contest 1984 performed in Swedish by the trio of brothers Herrey's, representing Sweden. Lyrics were written by Britt Lindeborg, and the tune by Torgny Söderberg. It was produced by Anders Engberg and Torgny Söderberg. The song is an upbeat 1980s-style dance song, performed by three clean-cut young men - fellow Swedish Eurovision participant Tommy Körberg (Sweden 1969 & 1988) famously dubbed them "the dancing deodorants" in the press, a derogatory nickname that stuck with them for the rest of their career in their home country- and the nonsensical title harking back to previous entries such as "Boom Bang-a-Bang", "Ding-a-dong" and "La, la, la". Despite the reception the song receives today, in the run-up to the contest it was not an immediate favorite to win: bookmakers Ladbrokes had Ireland's "Terminal 3" and Italy's "I treni di Tozeur" as higher favourites, so the song winning came as a surprise to many. The song itself deals with the lead singer discovering a pair of golden shoes in the street one day. He puts them on and immediately feels like dancing in the street, entering a "magical world". Thus, he wishes for everyone to have a pair. The English translation, which the group sang in their winning reprise at the Contest, took much the same theme. FUN FACT 1: Lotta Engberg was one of the backing vocals for Herreys. She represented Sweden at Eurovision 1987 with her song "Boogaloo". FUN FACT 2 (NOT RELATED WITH HERREYS): 19 years old Désirée Nosbusch hosted the show. 40 years later she hosted the Luxembourg Song Contest which was the first National Final after Luxembourg made a comeback at Eurovision after 31 years break.
