HERRING FISHING: A Winter Walk Through Shirley Chisholm State Park. Herring fishing does not have to be textbook. Nothing is textbook. Read the book, toss it out, read another, then read some water. Go fishing in between. Think of a a bucket of herring as a couple of bass or a glorious singular trout. Make it a walk, a lunch, any day of your liking. Anything you do when you fish. Pack a lunch. A walk down a isolated stream trail or long walk along a nature trail to a big beautiful pier. It is all fishing.

Well worth it specially if your close by. There really is alot of shoreline and 2 creeks to work. Spring/fall good bassing, summer lots porgy/seabass etc. I tend to do the same as you because it closes too early but a beautiful place to fish anytime, thanks for the much welcome and thanks for the comment!

I’m still doing the circuit Jerry, very little action except for the river and that produced a single herring. Next week temps drop drastically, maybe some better results. Take care.

@@FishYourWay Hi Jerry - if that is the fountain ave dump I HATED running there. I had 2 - 10 wheel dump trucks and remember coming home and having 5 FLAT TIRES! on 1 truck. And I had to have them fixed before I could go home that night so I could work the next morning. Those tires are big and heavy and had to be broken down with a 10lb sledge hammer to repair them. And putting air back in them was dangerous, If you didn't know what you were doing they could kill you.

Looks like you still had a good time. If you say "long rod" what do you mean? 8ft? 9ft? When I go for herring in germany I use a 10ft rod and 2 ounce leads. Greets

You have it right the pro guys use those. I generally just have fun with a 6' spin rod this was a medhvy 8' better for that pier all the best Robert
