looks like I've been profiled, I'm a Sarah Millican Fan. I eat the right foods, watch the right amount of telly/video, I don't work in translation/languages but I do know a few words in 7 languages to say ''hello'' and ''thank you'' to be polite. and the 'Sarah MIllican Television Programme' was one of the best viewing experiences I've ever had, yeah, I"m a Big Fan, a 6 foot 3 inch tall 24 stone Fan. thank you Mr. Herring for being nice to your guest.

Sarah Millican is a top five all time guest. I think you could bring her on every series and it wouldn't get boring.
@EleanorPeterson2 жыл бұрын
Yep. She could almost have been genetically engineered to suit this format. To be fair, Richard's own charisma makes the series compelling viewing even with 'timid' guests, but Sarah's totally in her element. I can't prove anything, but I reckon she's the kind of super-ambitious person who'd actually feel a bit miffed that she wasn't running the show. Did you notice how she gave the info about her daytime TV interview? She was given 8 minutes to chat and plug her latest DVD. Not "Oh, about 10 minutes", but 8 minutes PRECISELY. That's a woman with a stopwatch who's focused on her career.🤭 So she must love being given the chance to rabbit on for an hour or so about anything she likes, with free unlimited exposure on KZbin... She's already hugely successful, but I've often wondered if 'driven' people are able to relax and just coast along to enjoy the ride for a while, rather than to be constantly striving for the next step up and grasping at new ideas (such as her own online chat+guest thingy). Richard certainly knows some interesting people. Do you think that any of his interviews with other guests have ever been so awkward that he's decided not to air them?🤔

1:00:35 - The shelf-life of tinned food is amazing. Manufacturers are obliged to give it a 'best before' date for legal reasons and to save their reputations if the baked beans or whatever aren't still perfectly intact, but it's significant that the date is 'best before' and not the much more serious 'use by'. Basically, the vacuum-canning process is so effective that food remains safe to eat for many DECADES after it's been produced. The only real problems are maintaining the food's condition (spuds or carrots that have been shaken a lot will gradually break down into mush, for instance); and identifying a tin's contents after the paper label's gone soggy and perished or been nibbled away by mice.

One of the best shows around. Should be surprising that TV has never thought of this format. Hopefully they won't so Rich can keep on with the show. Will start paying for episodes when my failing KZbin venture finally lifts me out of poverty. (See how I subtly plugged my channel while appealing to your sympathies and pretending not to do so?)

Judging by the fact that you haven't uploaded a video in five years, I'm guessing the subtle plug didn't work out super well :P And in all seriousness, I'm not mocking, I have a KZbin channel of my own that isn't exactly setting the world on fire...

1:07:55 - Why fly a kite? Oh, Sarah! Because it's an enormously rewarding challenge for those with the wit to appreciate it, and it's a fascinating way to explore the principles of aerodynamics at any age! And you should never, ever run with a kite. No need. If there's enough wind, it'll fly straight out of your hand. If there's almost enough wind at ground level, just pull on the line until you find more wind higher up. If there's no wind at all, don't run; pack up and go to the pub. I'm not interested in stunt kites (which have 2 or more control lines and can perform aerobatics; they're for people who get bored easily); I like single-line kites which are designed to stay where you put them and look as though they've been pinned to the sky. I first flew a kite when I was 7 or 8. My dad had got me interested in flight by letting me use his binoculars to watch birds soaring, then I got a cheapo pocket-money kite (with a hawk design printed on it) for my birthday. I loved it. Adjusting stuff, adding tails to experiment with stability, changing the line to see what effect its drag had on performance, feeling the wind, learning to read the weather, watching how birds were affected by it, sensing the wind's speed and direction changes at different heights, riding thermals, encountering patches of sinking air, trying to fly in marginal conditions... It was a completely new world to me and unbelievably exciting. I couldn't understand why my mates were wasting time indoors talking or watching telly or colouring-in pictures of stupid ponies. Then I got into building my own kites from different materials, learnt to use a sewing machine, always looking for better, more stable flight. I started fitting old-school film cameras to kites and taking aerial photographs; (this was long before digital photography and today's tiny 'action cameras'). I became increasingly interested in aerodynamics, then got into aeromodelling, finally started building and flying free-flight and then radio-controlled planes. The guys at the local club were really kind, positive and helpful and sort of adopted me as a mascot - I was the only girl there. Later on, the family moved to Kenya when my dad got a job with the Flying Doctor Service. I still loved everything to do with kites, models, planes and flying, and eventually got my PPL (private pilot's licence) in a Cessna 172. It's the kite wot dunnit. Years later, back in England, I couldn't afford to fly enough hours to keep my pilot's licence valid, and it's now lapsed. I still fly RC planes, though. And during lockdown I got back into making kites. They're mostly parafoils - all-fabric 'soft' kites without rigid frames, which rely on the wind to hold their shape - my largest so far is around 14' long and 10' wide. It flies in the lightest of winds; it's beautifully stable; when it floats up into the sky on a mild summer's day, sharing the air with the resident lark (singing his heart out), and with the local buzzard soaring in lazy circles overhead and watching warily, my heart soars with them. There's no better way to lift your spirits. That's why people fly kites, Sarah, you grumpy indoor cow [I'm joking!]; it's bloody good fun! 😁

supa "sheeno", it's Skandi for cinema, pronounced sheeno!
@Gandhie7 жыл бұрын
As a "Skandi", I have to correct you ever so slightly. It is "kino" (pronunciation is something like what you said) in Norwegian and Danish (one of the DK words for it) but in Swedish it is "bio", derived from the word "biograf", and Swedes would not typically understand what you meant by "kino" barring some knowledge of the other two. While there is debate about whether Swedish, Norwegian and Danish are separate languages or a group of dialects (where they could be referred to as "Scandinavian"), I think you'd find that most speakers of any of the three do not think of the other two as their native language. There are significant vocabulary differences, differences in the written language and the alphabet (with regards to the last 3 letters) as well as individual dictionaries, country borders etc. that keep them apart. Just thought it was worth shedding some more light on the issue, to avoid misconceptions.
