A few interesting facts about lightning racer: (I am an employee at hersheypark in the rides department) 1. The voice recording that says “start your engines” is a recording of a young man who was a loyal guest and employee of hersheypark, butunfortunately passed away due health issues a few years ago. The park decided to let him live on in the recorded messages on the lightning racer and wildcat rollercoasters. 2. The kid who kept pressing the “start your engines” button was fired later that week, and yes, he was always extremely annoying😂

I held myself down by grabbing the bar to each side of my body, otherwise yes it is too much. Front row was the only place I could put my hands up. It is ridiculous maybe for the sake of it, but still loved it due to the intensity, speed and location. The restraints are far from the worst (just don't get anything between your pocket and the bar), although maybe not for this! I don't understand how you can feel no airtime and yet the pain of it though -- force still occurs and wants to kill you. Speaking of bad restraints, on LRacer and Wildcat you've got to hold them up from ratcheting...

Hershey Park is my local amusement park. I have been there every year for 30 years. I love the park and I am a season pass holder. I love the comet and it is my favorite coster above all others. To be fair to WildCat it was a much better ride when it first opened but it has become a backbreaker. I like sky rush but when it comes to hyper costers at Hershey the best is Storm Runner. (Side note my first roller coaster ride was the Super Duper Looper when I was 3. It was the 1980's and they let my dad just hold me. Oh man how times have changed.) I have been around the country and been to a lot of amusement parks; it might be because I am a homer but Hershey park is my favorite.

I was at Hershey in August of 2019. It poured rain in the morning and was predicted to storm again from the afternoon on. It didn’t end up storming at all, so we had an enjoyable (but very hot and humid) day with very little wait time for rides. Sky rush was ok for me. It didn’t crush my thighs but it did hurt my legs, probably because I was holding on so tight, lol. My favorite coaster was Great Bear, followed by Storm Runner and Lightning Racers. I’m surprised you had a bad experience on LR! It was so fast, fun, and full of air time. The racing element made it exciting. The first time I went on it, as we were pulling back into the station, I saw my older daughter boarding the train ahead of us with my 8 year old daughter. I legit nearly had a heart attack because I thought it would scare her, but she loved it! She rode all the coasters she could with me that day. My kids all love them! 😃

Former Hersheypark rides employee here (left my position about two weeks before you filmed this!) I live really close to the park and have gone probably 15 times since I worked there, and I have family still working there so I get some good inside scoops. Hershey has been doing a lot of renovating since your trip, that entire entrance section of shops is completely gone and they're currently building another coaster, similar to Skyrush I believe. And what you said about Skyrush is totally true, and it's sad that that's the "improved" restraints from when they first put the coaster in. The comet is a classic, and most days the line for that is horribly long, chalking it up with Great Bear and Laff Trak. And it's a shame you weren't a fan of the lightning racer, that's one of my favorite rides at the park. The voice over for that coaster, as well as at the great bear and the wildcat. Although I never got the chance to meet the man behind the voice, he's legendary at the park. Right inside laff trak is a cancer ribbon that was installed for him, which I think is a very nice touch, and a bit surprising to see Hershey show love towards an employee like that. Last thing, I know water coasters aren't really covered on here, but the new water coaster that's at the park is pretty great as well, at least in my book.
@RadioMuse15 жыл бұрын
Couple things for Skyrush: 1) The left side wing and right side wing are totally different because they're affected differently by the banking. Left wing seat in rows 6, 7, and 8 are where it's at - if you enjoy feeling like a ride is desperately trying to remove you from it. 2) Ride with your feet back, kinda tucked under the seat. Maybe even cross your ankles. Thighcrush still gonna do as thighcrush do (it's going to tighten up), but this #2 was key to being able to relax my upperbody completely during the airtime and really enjoy it. It was still tight by the end of the ride by not really bothersome until the train stopped on the brakes for me. I'm kinda surprised Storm Runner didn't make your top 50. I got a front seat dusk ride on that and the pops of airtime in weird places (like right before the roll) reminded me of an old Schwartzkopf but crazier. It's a great ride.

It was painful when it happened, but luckily it only lasted a short amount of time as the restraint unlocked as we sat there waiting to enter the station. The key for that one is to ride further front in the train, like fifth row and further if they aren’t assigning seats that day. That is where I get a smoother riding experience, but also a good amount of airtime. I don’t think they’ll do anything past some refurbishing to Wildcat due to the fact that it is the original GCI. And Lightning Racer is a lot more fun when the train is full, but that’s more likely on the weekend. Weekdays are a good time to ride lightning racer if you want a coaster that’s easy to marathon.

I went to a Soccer Tourney with my sister one year at Hershey, and while we were there I went on skyrush. I rode towards the middle and felt sick after, along with a ton of head banging. So the next year we went again. My bum was in a ton of pain, my legs hurt so badly I swore never to go on it again. Its my least favorite “Post 2000” coaster I’ve been on.

The Comet was my first "grown up" coaster at age 8. Agree on Wildcat. It was good when it was new, but now is just rough and battering. The Sooper Dooper Looper is about the harshest steel coaster I've ever ridden, probably due to the age and small wheels on the cars.

The restraints on skyrush have been updated since you were there. It makes the ride much more comfortable. Stormrunner is short but still our family favorite. We agree with your thoughts on wildcat. Still would like a wooden coaster over in the side of the park but that ride is rough. Shocked to hear your review of Lightening Racer. Odd that it was so empty as it is a park favorite. That may be why it did not ride as well. As for the Comet can not agree with your more. A staple ride at Hershey park.

I agree with what you say about Skyrush but I rate it because I appreciate the layout and the intensity, plus, it has the strongest airtime I’ve ever experienced!

My personal opinions for Hershey's plans coming up: 1. Retrack WildCat, as it is the first GCi and as much as it would be great receiving the RMC treatment, I don't know if GCI would want their first coaster pretty much gone. They could turn some of the banked turns into GCI wave turns or twisted airtime hills, as it seems every manufacturer is trying wave turns now. 2. RMC Lightning Racer. I love Lightning Racer, but imagine if this became the Twisted Colossus of the East Coast?? That way the would have two solid woodies then, Comet and the retracked WildCat and an dueling RMC conversion of woodie. 3. Put new trains on Thigh Crush to make it bearable and for everyone to be able to experience the insane ejector airtime. 4. Add in a new thrilling flat ride or two, as the Triple Tower is the only thrilling flat ride maybe other than The Claw? 5. Addition to the waterpark with a Mack Rides PowerSplash, as Roller Soaker has been removed and I don't think there are any water coasters too close to Hershey

There were some airtime hills on Skyrush that felt like it was going to break my legs. Even worse, when sitting on the brake run, the restraints release ever so slightly. That doesn't sound so bad, but when your legs are already going numb from the lack of circulation in your legs, the slight release of pressure allowed a little bit of blood to flow into my legs and intensify the pain. Skyrush NEEDS new trains.

How much did I love Skyrush? Most painful restraints I’d ever experienced - deep muscle pain that lasted for a full three days - and YET by the end of the night it made my top five coasters. Yes, I got a little better at positioning myself against the restraints over time, but mostly the coaster was just so awesome that I could put up with the pain. Well, assuming I didn’t have one of those rides that felt as if my legs were going to break, which still happened about once every four or five rides.

If you want painful coasters, ride Mind Eraser at Six Flags America.
@StamfordBridge5 жыл бұрын
John Foltz I’ve ridden it. I think El Condor is far worse in terms of shakiness and Darien Lake’s Mind Eraser is much worse in terms of painful headbanging. Super Flight at Rye Playland is the most ridiculous ride ever in terms of banging up the entire body. But none of them touch the singular pain that Skyrush inflicts on the thighs. Only Skyrush creates pain that lasted a full three days.

I love Skyrush, I got 7 rides on it and 6 of the rides were on the wing seats. Also I loved lightning Racer.

I totally agree with you on Comet being underrated! Super fun coaster and lots of airtime in the back row. As for Skyrush I loved it! It did hurt my thighs for sure but I thought the rest of the experience was fantastic. That ejector airtime is insane and I love how it yanks you up the lift super fast.

The last time I went to Hersheypark was before sky rush so my memory might be a bit bad. My favorite 2 were comet and storm runner. So fun to go on and I totally agree with how comet is completely underrate

I don’t think it has to do with body shape. I think some people are less effected to thigh pressure. I luckily can enjoy this ride despite the restraints. This drop is the better than i305 though and those whippy hills are wild in the wing seat.
@JunkFoodKing5 жыл бұрын
I like Skyrush, but I haven't been on a ton of the top-tier hypers and I also have skinny thighs, so the stapling doesn't affect me as much. Personally, I like Phoenix better than Comet, but Comet is indeed underrated. Did you hit up Knoebel's while you were in PA?

So. I go to Hershey often considering I have season passes to the park. Here in the Philadelphia region we have 3 choices of parks. Six flags great Adventure ( now these days is terrible in my opinion). Dorney Park ( it's ok park small but decent enought) or Hershey. The only big reasons I choose Hershey is beacuse the park is relatively clean and they dont nickle and dime you at every corner like Six flags does. Hershey also has a good list of unique rides and no copy cat rides but only one which is Sidewinder. Yes there are a few thorns in the park such as Wildcat ( I describe the ride as getting mugged with a solid beating in a dark alley way in north Philadelphia) and skyrush that is pretty rought. But I am super excited for 2020 and the new coaster. I recently visited the park for their Christmas events and they did make huge progress on the new coaster. Very excited

Couldn’t agree more with your thoughts on Skyrush! The restraints killed without even leaving the station, and the brake run was a nightmare. Great vid!

I feel the same way you feel about Skyrush, but with Magnum XL-200. I may be one of the few enthusiasts that can't stand Magnum, but to each their own! Great video as always my friend, hope to see you in the NE this year! I'll save you a ride on Wicked Cyclone!

Chocolate world or the “souvenir shop” and Hersheypark are owned by two separate companies the park is Hershey entertainment and resorts and chocolate world is the food company which is why you won’t find any Hersheypark stuff in chocolate world
@morganhutt25565 жыл бұрын
Your'e lucky all those were open. I went in August and quite a few were closed, and waited well over an hour on the underwhelming laugh track . Sky Rush was unexpected for Hershey, and left with bruises across my thighs from the restraints. I'm a KI fan and grew up with top coasters. Nothing compares to that park.
@Saul_Leven5 жыл бұрын
I've never even been to Hersheypark so I don't know anything about Skyrush's restraints but in my experience riding HangTime at Knott's Berry Farm I've noticed that holding on to the restraint while the train is moving will automatically tighten it. Maybe the Skyrush restraints work the same way and it tightened on your second ride because you held on to the restraint during the drop. If that's the case then you could avoid getting your thighs crushed by keeping your hands in the air during the entire ride.

Hey! Our home park! Agreed on Skyrush! Hate that ride. And please tell me your secrets to getting air time on Comet because my husband and I have never ever gotten any airtime on that coaster and we always make sure our seatbelt is a little more loose. But I do agree, it's such an underrated and unloved coaster. One of my favorites. Wild Cat just needs to be RMC'd period. While I don't always agree on your ranking on coasters, I love how you tell it like it is. Keep up the good work man and glad you had a fun time at the park.

With your eyeglass camera, do you wear it on looping coasters. If yes, how do you secure them?

Just found your channel today and naturally had to see what you thought of my home park. I definitely agree that Stormrunner is one of the best in the park, and it’s great that the wait is usually 30 minutes or less. Sidewinder and Lafftrack are my personal favorites, though I have a soft spot for Lightning Racer since it was my first official roller coaster when I was 7.

I absolutely LOVE Comet. It’s been my favourite since I was a kid. It’s what made me love woodies so much. My complaint about sky rush was the backs of the seats, the flat headrest left me feeling like I was being thrown around.

Hershey used to be our home park many years ago. When I first rode sky rush when it opened the restraints were awful. We rode it this August 2019 and I thought the restraints were better. The park needs to improve the restraints!!

I feel sky rush could have better restraints but the layout is great! If it wasn’t for the restraints I feel people could enjoy the layout more and the airtime sky rush has to offer

Noooo, Skyrush is sublime. But only if you don't mind the restraints (I quite like them). Oh well. Nice trip report, and glad you liked the park overall! Now just give it a few years. If Candymonium pans out as an elite B&M hyper and they RMC Wildcat, Hershey will be a serious contender for the world's best coaster lineup!

The last time I went to hersheypark was over 15 years ago. Wildcat was the first roller coaster I ever rode, and lightning racer was my favorite ride. I remember wildcat was incredibly rough and I got bruises from it, but I loved it still. I could imagine it would be even moreso now. It's sad to hear that lightning racer isn't in the best condition now. It's odd though, I remember riding comet and didn't enjoy it very much because it was shaking and rattling a lot, it didn't feel secure at all. I guess they must have done a lot of work on it.
