I feel Reid did not sufficiently make the connection between heteronormativity and colonial effects. As a factor it seems of lesser significance...
@kellyv60752 жыл бұрын
Huge, huge connection between heteronormoticity and colonialism. Christianity and patriarchy following rhe enlightenment era and consequently industrial revolution brought us our current form of capitalism and the ideas of the nuclear family unit which are the most effective for profit and maintaining the structures of patriarchical, white, oppressive power.

'For us, living on lands that we are not indigenous to, we do assist in maintaining and upholding the structure of violence by doing so'. What a baffling statement. What are the options for the people innocent of the acts of colonising their ancestors committed in? Why should they even be associated with, let alone held to any kind of account in regards to some kind of supposed participation or guilt, simply by living on lands they were born on, who neither had nor could have a say in what happened to those indigenous peoples however many hundreds of years ago? As well, if we're playing that game, could you not say that of any migration and any peoples who are not indigenous to the land or culture, that they are 'assisting in maintaining and upholding the structure of 'violence' on those indigenous? What is his definition of violence? Very, very loaded talk.

Settler colonialism and the implications of hetero-patriarchy is not the same thing as migration, so no you could not apply his logic to that of migration. Settler colonialism prides itself on the displacement and eradication of the original inhabitants i.e. Indigenous Peoples. And creates a culture of false belonging to the land and commodification of the land. So, for those who are living on the lands that they are not Indigenous to because the country was founded settler colonialism, you are maintaining and upholding the structure of violence. By not acknowledging whose original lands you are one. By not acknowledging the thousands of years of culture, ceremonies, and stewardship of the land, you are upholding that violence and contributing to the erasure of a diverse land of Nations.

You know the Indiginous people were the first colonizers right? There no way you can decolonize if you are dependent on today's technology to survive.

Why not? Africa and India were decolonized despite adopting European technology.
