Hexagon-1

The Hexagon-1 applies the concept of a Square-1 to a hexagonal prism, with each corner being twice the size of an edge. This results in six corners and six edges per face. The central layer is also unbandaged, and is based on a Floppy Hexagonal Cheese with three axes of rotation for better maneuverability. The puzzle's geometry gives it a fairly different solve from a Square-1, and it's a fun and unique puzzle to work out.

The parity explanation at the end was really interesting! I learned how to solve square one in 2016 (although I don’t practice it and only know a beginner method) and I’ve never understood why you get parity on that puzzle.

1:49 there is no two sided polygon, but there is a two sided "bloated polygon" (an eye shape), so you should be able to be a digon version of this puzzle, it might be trivial to solve though not sure.

Hi! I just ordered your Hexagon-1 and TwistyTurtle's Pentagon-1 puzzles through Chewies custom puzzles. Any chance I could convince you to make a Heptagon-1 puzzle as well if it's mechanically possible? It would be cool to have more of the N-Gon-1 puzzle series!

Odd numbered ones don't really work the same way, unfortunately. Next one in the series will likely be an octagon. The Pentagon-1 is fundamentally a different type of puzzle.

Doing the parity algorithm messes up the bottom layer for me, and doesn't fix parity. I used / (3, 3) / (1, 0) / (-2, -2) / (9, 0) / (2, 2) / (-1, 0) / (-3, -3) / What is the algorithm you used?

That's been made by someone else and I might grab one eventually to review. But it has fundamentally different geometry from all the Square-1 variants and therefore would solve very differently.

what modelling software do you use for these? I've been trying to use fusion 360 but have been needing more steps that i feel i should need

I would say that Onshape is a good software to start with, there's plenty of resources related to designing puzzles using it.

Yes, it's actually an unbandaged Square-1 if I remember correctly.

The octagon-1 might be interesting to solve, it shares the symmetry of the Square-1 but has more angles. I'll likely make one next year.
