when I was little, I had the toughest time with Hexen, the first time I got to Shadow Wood and heard that drum triplet in the background, I almost couldn't keep going, the anxiety was so intense lol even listening to it now near 30 years later it still puts me on edge

Totally underrated. The castle of grief in the middle of the swamp. I used to get goosebumps listen I g to the music. And after reading the prologue felt like there was a cursed 8ft tall dark lord awaiting for me in this level.

Darkmere is my favorite all version of Hexen, , Maybe in 64 Hexen was not very good version

Composer Kevin Schilder is not a fan of the N64 soundtrack. The instruments sometimes tend to get all over the place and the overall harmony gets lost. Great example is Orchard of lamentations soundtrack: the melody is very muddy and unrecognizable. However, I think the instrumental table of N64 does sound good, it's just that there seems not enough care gone into the conversion process. N64 had good potential voor the music but it was not put to good use imho.

@@alaididnalid7660 I think the N64 music for Darkmere is very odd, and not in a good way - the bass notes correspond closely to Kevin Schilder's original track but the melodies over it are in a completely different key (A minor instead of C# minor) and aren't at all faithful to the original - it's as if they slapped a totally different track on top. As for Orchard of Lamentations, I feel the N64 version starts off quite well but then indeed succumbs to the problems you mention. I do quite like some of the N64 tracks but even at best they're just minimalistic approximations of the PC originals.
