It can be fine... But you have to "build back better", if you lack a clear vision to bring back a galaxy on fire, taking a wrecking ball to it is just meaningless destruction. If you lack content about its heights, the ruin loses impact, just look at LA content, it's like 75% Tatooine, Tatooine isn't going to change much rich/poor, it's a dustbowl that is going to look rugged no matter what. The most interesting settings in DSW LA were Coruscant, that ice planet in Mando, Mandalore and a few in Andor, and other than Andor they were barely explored.

“All roads leading to the sequels” does bum me out a bit. Mainly because the Disney sequels makes all of the efforts from the prequel‘s, originals, and the New Republic era pointless. The point of the sequels is to rebuild the republic and Jedi order. I would like to see successful New Republic stories involving Luke Skywalker and of course some Old Republic stories with Revan(maybe even Zayne Carrick).

My main issue is that many of these shows directly reference the sequels. For example, having the New Republic be incompetent/corrupt in Ahsoka. Considering that the series takes place over 20 years before TFA, there is no reason why we couldn’t see a thriving New Republic during the Mandoverse era.

We could’ve gotten a thriving New Republic and New Jedi Order led by Luke during the post ROTJ/Mandoverse era, then have something(s) bad happen which led to the state of things in the sequels.

I didn’t feel anything watching Bad batch mostly because the bad taste in my mouth left from TLJ was still there and I wasn’t convinced that they were getting rid of the train wreak. Now I only watch KZbinrs covering the train wreak because I find it funny to laugh at. Mean? Maybe, but I don’t care for the feelings of creators who will tear down what others have built and then build their own monuments on the rubble for the sake of their false pride only to disparage those who criticize them.

The problem with the Sequels wasn't just about the story telling. With the Originals and the Prequels, we (the fans) weren't just invested into the story. We were invested in the characters and the actors who played those characters. Modern films don't have that kind of audience anymore. In fact, I would say KZbinrs have more that type of audience than film does. It wouldn't matter how good or bad the stories are, they will never carry the same weight as the past six films. It's a different era.

I think there are a couple of things happening. Some of it is just not understanding the source material and some of it is just poor/mediocre writing. But some of it is activism. When you’re an activist that hates much of what you believe the original Star Wars stands for, then yes, you do need to tear it all down. We see this in many areas right now. That may look like feminism, but much of the current activism is directly opposed to what we would recognize as feminism (think of the erasure of women’s spaces, etc). I was thinking about this this morning: new writers or even new fans actively hate what was. I keep saying "Luke could have had a cool send off" or "Rey could have replaced him if the writers were more respectful", but the point was never to have respect or to understand the value of architypes before subverting them. Tearing down the old to make way for the new is a key component in what is also happening in the wider community, this is something that Mao did when he came into power. They were removing all of the old traditions and trying to bring in new ones, anyone not on board were shamed publicly, if they spoke out the same thing. He was, however, that story was prior to 'The Chosen One' recon so while it wasn't a great story it didn't hurt anything. After Lucas did the 'The Chosen One' recon Legends had a charcter say that it was never Sidious to begin with but a crazy clone that *thought* it was Sidious. For the ST to do the same story after the PT and Lucas adding the 'The Chosen One' is just really random.

For the first comment response Faults like dialogue and Ep 1's higher kid directed tone aside, the prequels knew the story it wanted to tell. The bright young boy finds freedom and a new life, the boy becomes a man and the seeds of his downfall are planted, and the man's downfall. Material like the second CloneWars series helped bring 3 concise points together. The only thing they're trying to connect to is the Sidious "reveal", which was a half baked reaction to them killing off the villain that was suppose to be set up.

House of the Dragon is its own self contained story. Other than taking place in the same world and having the same "family" there isn't much connection. Sequels and the GL stuff are really close in timeline. Heck it has the exact same characters in some cases. Those characters from before almost universally were made to look bad and different from their usual selves in the Sequels.

8:39 I can only imagine people are meaning a clone with a separate consciousness of its own, which doesn't make sense. The novelization of Rise of Skywalker makes clear that Palpatine worked on making a replacement body through cloning experiments, which produced Rey's Dad and Snoke, but couldn't produce a suitable vessel that was up to his power level. He exists in a body in the movie because he transferred to a stand-by clone after he was thrown over. But he couldn't make a better one, so tried to influence things through Snoke. When he learned Rey existed, he figured she would do as a vessel. The Palpatine you see is not a charred broken body from falling. It's damaged because it couldn't hold his power as effectively as his original. Now, how he was able to use the dyad to change that, I have no idea. I just wanted to spread the current, official explanation. It's even said in the movie by that one guy, "dark science, cloning: secrets only the Sith knew." The Shadows of the Sith book, and The Bad Batch follow this idea too.

Thinking of "relatable Sith," The Lost Tribe of the Sith series did a pretty good job of that. In that series, pretty much everyone is a Darksider, however, the methods and modus operandi are different from character to character. Some Sith are clearly more psychotic and evil than others, while others are more benevolent. One even seems to turn away from the Dark Side.

I said this before but Star Wars/ the Skywalker saga needs a new episode 7, a totally different movie with Luke It’s still possible: a movie surrounding Luke in his 60s could totally work given his story is essentially of age story and now the future is here. The last Jedi doesn’t work: it pushes an allegory that only makes sense if Luke’s role in ROTJ never happened. It also dehumanizes him given that he’s basically an opposite extreme of what Disney THINK we expect of luke. Then they basically abandon him and turn the focus on a character who’s barely concerned by the plot, not to mention the entirety of the saga. She’s also validated for imitating luke in ROTJ, tossing this don’t meet your heroes theme out the window

My brother and I used to love playing the Super Star Wars games. I remember we were able to beat Super Star Wars, Super Empire Strikes Back, and got all the way to the last level on Super Return of the Jedi, but no matter how many times we tried, we couldn't beat it. We were in the millennial falcon trying to outrun the flames of the death Star destruction but the flames always managed to catch up to us. It was really annoying.

Cloned Palpatine: If they are going to do ANYTHING in that regard, then it should be that Palpatine had a clone sitting ready in Death Star II somewhere and managed to use a Sith technique to transfer his consciousness to that clone as he was falling. I think it would be fitting if Sith "immortality" turned out to be transferring consciousness to another body, and therefore dependent on cloning tech, or on taking over a compatible host and destroying that host's identity, as they basically set out at the end of RoS. It still devalues Anakin's sacrifice, but at least not any more so than RoS already did. It would just be a reasonable extension of what was shown in Ros to explain the somehow in "Somehow, Palpatine returned." Going with "The Episode VI Emperor was a clone all along" would be infinitely more destructive to the originals. So in that way, I suppose it makes sense that Kennedy would want to do that.

Hey Thor, Short question with potentially a long answer, how would you do a new project centered around the Old Republic era? Would you do a movie, movies, series, books, etc.? Would you focus on Revan and the Exile or another character and time-frame? And what changes would you make, if any? I was under perhaps a deluded impression the Mandalorian was going to ignore the Sequels and be its own thing... but when season 3 came along and ended with those huge Sequel references, with the Rey movie also being announced at the same time, I was like... fuck this, I am out of here. And unlike GOT s8 (which I am not a GoT fan anyways) GoT didn't cause a long time fanbase to fracture as badly... it's a very different thing philosophically and personally and emotionally.

The ST is never going to get the same love the PT gets, for one there is no substance to them, little continuity even between them and very little that was actually "new" as well. Intrigue was not allowed. With regards to somehow ever watching something they make again, they'd have to set an actually intriguing story set so far away from this time period that it's pretty much never mentioned in any real way.

4:15 Honestly, I like this idea. Heck I say Breath of the Wild it and make it like a whole 10,000 years later. Loosely make slight references old stuff to both canon & EU. Make it so we don’t know what was true or not amongst the old stories as myths & legends. It’d make it easier to separate the story as a near new canon so Disney could do what they want and no one has to acknowledge it if they don’t want to, but it also could be considered part of the actual far flung into the future who do still want to consider it interconnected.

What made the old EU so great was its continuity, that it shared the same universe as other meaningful events, like how the Old Republic was good on its own terms, but also shared the universe where Luke _succeeded_ in rebuilding the Jedi Order. I don't want to encourage Disney Star Wars to try and deceive the fans even more. I WANT a strong bedrock foundation of canon and continuity, and all I've seen indicates the figureheads in charge of Disney Star Wars, from Kennedy on down to Filoni to Hidalgo, just don't care, which is a shame, because canon and continuity give you guidelines to follow that enhance creativity, they don't smother it.

If Disney and co.’s approach to ‘tear down the old’ isn’t based on petty and malicious reasons like envy as they tend to seemingly be, then they’re doing it cause it’s easier, or because it makes the platform easier for them to shallowly pander on for profit. That heartless willingness to destroy what was built without consideration of how disrespectful that may actually be shows Disney’s unworthiness of Star Wars. Star Wars isn’t the first series or franchise, of films or not, to be torn up or torn down for something else, or raised back up in what can even be considered a perverted image that’s everything it shouldn’t or isn’t supposed to be, but it hurts all the same to see something you love so much get ruined. Sometimes it’s just… unbelievable, whether it’s the act or the supposed reason(s). It’s worse when it’s by a company that once gave you so much joy and what they do to the one thing gets spread to everything else they have or do work on.

That could be massaged to fit in the Mando verse and the Republics decommissioning their military. I don't care how luxurious a train is; I refuse to ride when I know it's going to crash, burn and blame the ticket buyers for the damages. As far as Thrawn goes (I only know what I've heard here), yeah. Thrawn needed to win to prove that he's a threat as a tactical genius. Hell, for as long as he was in the show, he should've been winning until the end where a shift of fate caused by one unforeseen detail causes his downfall. The main criticism of the empire was their incompetence in everything from battlefield tactics to bureaucracy. The scary thing about Thrawn was that he was not a good commander; he was the best. He could take the overwhelming firepower of the Imperial Navy and use it in such a way that it was a true threat even as diminished as it was.

I dont think "All roads to the sequels" and HotD are comparable. House of the dragon doesnt have constant tie ins to Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister. It feels seperate and distinct, much like Andor, when compared to Ahsoka, Mando, Bad Batch etc...

When Disney purchaced StarWars, I was disappointed when they dismissed Legends (they had some valid reasons for it), when they announced the High Republic novels, I was a bit excited. I thought "I can't wait for games, shows, and movies dealing with this new, untouched time." And the majority of what we got was disappointment instead.

The sequels suffered from more than quality issues. The direction of the saga is what most find objectionable. Reminding Disney/Lucasfilm that they can make something new without tearing down what came before is rather pointless. Tearing down what came before is their point. It’s the same theme with Disney live-action remakes. They are less remakes than replacements. Eventually, the remakes will be the only versions approved by and available from Disney. Same with the sequels. This is Star Wars’ “new direction.”

From the first moment they purchased Star Wars, Disney tried to destroy everything came before including George Lucas ideas and the expanded universe that existed 40 years. Disney tried to create a superior version that wasn’t necessary and instead have provided some of the most mediocre content that I don’t consider canon.

I’m a member of the never giving Disney Star Wars another chance camp and I don’t foresee a likely scenario that would change that. It’s the people making the products that are destroying the brand. Those people permeate the film and television industry so until there is a seismic shift in staffing I don’t expect there to be a change in the quality of what Hollywood produces. Look at the treatment of Katara (among others) in the live action Avatar TLA. It’s not just a Disney problem.

I would return to Star Wars if three things happened: 1) the Sequels being stricken out from canon; 2) new and good content (movies, TV series, animation, games) being made; 3) a consistent canon of the events and the Force being adopted. What I want to see in entertainment is adaptations of source material that feels fresh and worlds that feel NEW. You can feel the passion in Dunes creative team to show us something new and introduce us to a new world, themes, characters and stories. Star Wars has simply been around too long to offer up much passion or excitement to audiences, and that’s why they have a quickly shrinking viewership. The franchise has moved on from George Lucas passion product to simply a content farm. I’m saying, let’s support more passion projects, like DUNE.

I think it would just be easier to take a break, then just relaunch it without any reference to the Disney trilogy - just forget it. It has tarnished everything that came before it. It was so Ill judged - they ensured that everything that happened in the original trilogy meant nothing. They took away the happy ending for everyone we loved. If they were going to do their shite trilogy - they should have set it 100 years after the original trilogy.

1:38 This is why The Mandalorian was so popular. It was new, different, unlike any other Star Wars project of the time. Season 1 got peoples attention, Season 2 concluded the story, then by Season 3, The Mandalorian was no longer new/unique, it became stale, overstayed it's welcome, so now its no longer as popular as it once was. Same with Ashoka, her character arc was concluded with her death in Rebels (and Clone Wars s7 but that came after). But then she overstayed her welcome, she was brought back, the Ashoka show made her stale; she's no longer unique. Point being, StarWars/LucasFilm is so desperate for StarWars to be successful, when they do accidentally land a bullseye, they milk it dry and then are perplexed when its no longer liked. Never Jump the Shark, kids.

It also doesn’t help the Mandalorian that they bring Grogu back. The story between Din and Grogu was well done and came to a satisfying end, with Din finally getting him to a Jedi. But because Baby Yoda was so popular, they had to bring him back to keep selling merchandise. So the other problem is that once they create something that gets a lot of buzz and interest, they will milk it until it’s organs plop out. And by then, it’ll stop being interesting.

Hey Thor, a common defense I've heard for Palpatine's return in Episode 9 is that he does the same thing in the EU with the Dark Empire storyline, cloning and all. Do you have a fundamental problem with that story too? I've never read Dark Empire so I was curious if you've read the story. If you have what were your thoughts on it?

I think the real problem is lucasfilm doesn't understand star wars. They don't understand what makes it special or what the fans love. And Disney doesn't understand the brand of star wars. Star wars is at it's best when it is for 12 year old boys. They are young enough to still have that childish belief, old enough to start questioning there place in the world, naive enough to Believe in absolutes, and wise enough understand right from wrong. This isn't to say star wars is only for boys, or only for children. Anyone can love star wars for what it is. But I also don't think star wars can jump that far into the future and still retain fans. They should have followed the e.u's model you build off of established star wars stories and build your own things, your own stores, your own characters. But never at the expense of the past. The irony in this is of lucasfilm had started the sequels with Luke's school, with him training Rey, they could have moved past the legacy characters by the second movie and not be held back in their story capabilities

It's kinda like their novels, they don't have a plan so any substantial reveal would undercut the lore of something else. They can't reveal everything on Mount Tantiss without setting up Exegol first. With how much understanding of Unknown Regions Filoni seems to have (zero) and filmmakers barely being aware Ahch-To and Exegol are not in some other galaxy, but inside it threatens to unravel the whole Disney timeline like TCW did for the EU Clone Wars. That's why they're being careful.

I think if the Mandalorian had continued in the same vein as season one and two (and they had reigned in Filoni's penchant for over-the-top fan-service a bit), it would have been fine, even if it was undoubtedly heading straight towards setting up the sequels. However, I think Disney's best strategy would be to let go of trying to redeem the sequels, quietly let them fade and just focus on making good movies and series in the post-sequel era. If Rey shows up at all, she shouldn't be any more than a supporting role to pass the torch to a new generation.

I hope SotE gets remastered. I have it on Steam, and there are a few things that need fixing. Proper controller and m+kb support. I have a nice control scheme setup that fells better than what the N64 had, but a hassle to set up with the outdated button labels. The cg cutscenes look bad, I always prefer the N64 ones which have an additional scene with Han Solo. Some issues with the resolution, the higher the resolution the smaller the text is, and cutscenes are 1/4 the size playing in the corner.

I remember when we got the news they were remaking Star Wars, beginning with TFA. But now, there is so much star wars content including Ashoka, Obi Wan Kenobi and the Han Solo film which I simply do not care about.

It is mostly the bad dump and decline in quality. The sequels didn't do well so rather than do something good... They keep trying to refocus on the sequals which tend to ruin what story was already being told. Mando 1&2. Good stories, good characters, good ideas. Mando 3 - dropped the story as they phoned it home while they bend over backwards to announce Sequals are here and comming! The sequels just keep spreading the damage as they continue to try and justify it. The prequels had their flaws... And Clone Wars made it more enjoyable to the masses by focusing on good writing, good story, and good characters. Even Ashoka was hated... And they fixed her not by shoving more of the traits you hated down your throat... But by making her become a better character and writing her better. Thus better character = more enjoyable.

I've said from the beginning that the single biggest mistake Disney made was making "sequels" rather than starting fresh with new characters in the distant future (or even distant past) of the same universe. The Skywalker saga was complete and bringing the old characters back for anything more than cameos was always going to be a disaster. Disney simply fundamentally didn't understand Star Wars and they would have been given some grace if they fumbled through it with their new characters rather than the old. Rey being a Mary Sue for example would be less offensive if she wasn't showing up Luke for instance.

The biggest problem with a 300 year or other long time jump forward is that it puts Disney in a place where they are totally free to invent every aspect of the world. It loses all connection to the OT era, including potentially its design aesthetic. So it would be pure Disney Star Wars. If they were competent world builders that would be fine. But they are not so I expect going all in on that would be a death knell for the franchise.

Dark Forces remastered is really all nostalgia... it wasn't a particularly amazing game in of itself, but more a tech showcase for where Lucasarts would go in the future in the 3D fps gaming space... where they started to really get it together for the sequel, Jedi Knight.

Imo one of the issues with the "Destruction" stuff isn't that it is a bad idea, it's that it is horribly executed or asks stupid questions. for example, consider Kotor 2, which I generally think has one of the best SW stories when you get into it (especially with cut content restored). Asking a fundamental question of whether a monastic order dedicated to peace like the Jedi can survive a war is an interesting question! In that game, it is presented as the Mandalorian Wars - by fighting them off, Revan and Malak saved the Outer Rim, but in the process they created something even worse, the Jedi Civil War, which ultimately caused even more harm. What if not participating was actually the correct utilitarian choice in the long term? There's a super interesting question there about the nature of war and interventionism and whether the human psyche can survive fighting and violence without breaking (the answer, for most people, is no. Would the Jedi be different?). Ideas that could have also been handled in the prequel era but were usually glossed over or not handled well. This is something Deep Space Nine did super well and why it remains my personal favorite sci-fi show. Taking on mature topics like "what happens to an occupied people after the occupation is over? They often fight amongst each other." There's no reason Star Wars couldn't explore stuff like this, but Andor is pretty much the only thing I can think of in recent memory to even try. Instead it is just very banal stuff or ridiculous mystery boxes with long camera shots and fake complexity, like Ahsoka. People are so desperate for something interesting they projected a lot of stuff onto Baylan's character that didn't even exist on screen

Something I found interesting with the Mandalorian War is that the Jedi end up with problems because they did the opposite of what they’ll do in the prequel trilogy. In the Mandalorian War, they stayed out of it because they feared that getting involved in the war goes against their ideas as peacekeepers, and could lead them to the Dark Side. So the Mandalorians ravaged the galaxy until Revan defied the order and went to war with his followers, where he and most of them fell to the Dark Side. Meanwhile in the Clone Wars, the Jedi get involved because not doing so could see the Republic fall and get countless people killed, which led to them losing sight of their ideals, and blinding them until Palpatine could wipe them out. It seems that no matter what they choose, there’s no choice that won’t lead to them failing in their ideals.

There’s no need to tear down what was, you only have to create good characters and stories. IF you don’t tear down what was, you get a lot of grace with fans. If you have to tear down what was in order to prop up your new story and characters, then they’re not good stories or characters.

I don't think "the right project" brings people back necessarily. Andor sure didn't. The amount of "bad" Disney SW far outweighs the good at this point that any one good project like Andor is seen as the exception. It would take a different Lucasfilm leadership PLUS multiple good projects in a row that show a new direction and less "the message" to make old, jaded fans take a look back at Disney SW.

Hey Thor, It appears pretty clear now that Kenobi Season 2 won't be a thing -- and count me among those who are relieved and think this is the right move. Season 1 was decent and entertaining but had significant problems. Still, the bigger issue to me is, Obi-Wan really shouldn't leave Tatooine again. He really can't. Lucasfilm also couldn't really get away with another whole show based on Tatooine at this point. However, I think there's another idea that could work and be fun to explore: a single, made-for-streaming movie -- perhaps with a limited theatrical release -- that features Obi-Wan training with Qui-Gon and, if they really want to bring in Hayden, maybe mix in some Clone Wars flashbacks so we can see them in their armor, etc., which was a highlight of Ahsoka with Anakin. This seems like it could actually be both viable for ambivalent fans and a lot of fun for all, but in a way that isn't dragged out unnecessarily for a series. It would give us a chance to finally see Kenobi and Jinn training together, give us more of an eye into Qui-Gon's thinking and philosophy, and offer a bit of nostalgia with some worthwhile lessons. Of course, Liam Neeson would have to agree to come back for this, but what do you think? What else might it take to make this idea work if they pursued it?

Versus Omega who probably kept her clone designation. Star Wars often has biblical references and the alpha and omega refers to Jesus being the beginning and the end. Yeah all roads leading to the sequels ends a lot of joy from me but if the project looks good enough I’ll probably try some stuff. That second person I’m sorry I don’t think they are actually that big of a Star Wars or EU fan as one KOTOR 2 being your favorite thing is just you saying you don’t like Jedi and I’m sure that person loved last Jedi. While KOTOR 2 has some interesting subjects and ideas Kreia isn’t some great thinker she’s a brat who worked with Sith and got betrayed by Sith and threw a tantrum and said screw everyone if I can’t win and be in charge. There are reasons that you didn’t really see any of the rest of EU creators use Kreia at all. Second there were plenty of different stories in the EU the Old Republic comics were pretty different with a padawan on the run from his masters for a crime he didn’t commit. And everything to do with the Yuuhzhan Vong is the most different Star Wars has ever been with the Jedi not even majorly fighting other force users. Then people could also read the X wing book or series around Han, Lando, and Boba which had a lot more to do with the underworld. So anyone that says everything in the EU was the same is lying and just didn’t branch out.

I think new Star Wars in the same vein as the Sequels will fail just as readily as the Sequels. New Star Wars has to explore the same themes in a new creative way. It was the theme of the sequels that failed not the movies. Some people only need flashy eye candy so new Star Wars works for them. Some people only connected with new Star Wars because their relation to it is not the norm. The majority of the old fandom just did not connect with theme of sequels. I remember the night I walked out TLJ. I was in shock. Then I could not sleep because I was so upset about how wrong Luke was. Yoda from Prequel to OT is not destroyed he is made better. Obi-wan from prequel to OT is not destroyed he is made better…well until Disney’s Obi-wan. You can’t fix Star Wars if you don’t understand its themes and the purpose of its characters. The PT irritates me because it jacks up the continuity of sequence or occurrences. However, it does not mess up the continuity of theme and characters. The ST does both. Theme? Yes, the Force works different which disturbs the theme of dark side: “easier more seductive”. Sequence? Yes, Luke, Leia, Han end up in places that are implied by the end of the OT. The NR is comically stupid. The FO is an incompetent enemy. These are thematically detrimental. Does the OT and PT have elements of this? Sure. But the entire premise of TLJ relies on the incompetence of everyone for its progression. This is thematically in stark contrast to previous Star Wars. It is a parody of itself. Obi-wan does this too. This is why Disney Star Wars fails. Until this is fixed it won’t matter what time period they put it in. And yes if all roads lead to that then yes a lot of people will hate anything new.

I do like muddying the waters between Jedi and Sith. Not so much the orders themselves, but certain Jedi and Sith as individuals. I think nobody is completely good and nobody is completely evil, though some will only act and be enticed by one side or the other. There are so many Sith we can empathise with (only completely evil lunatics like Sidious and Vitiate are exempt). There are so many Sith we can relate to and empathise with. Vader, Maul, Tyranus, Revan, Sion and I’d say even Nihilus a bit. And there are some Jedi who repulse the audience from time to time, often being too stern, cold and emotionless, like Windu, Ki-Adi Mundi or Luminara. It’s clear that Jedi will always strive to do good for others and Sith will always strive to do good for their own sakes, but the ways individuals go about it varies and that makes both orders complex and layered. Furthermore, I quite like different Jedi and Sith philosophies and how they can clearly be assigned to different time periods. Both orders change. Not so much in their core principles but in the way they seek to uphold them. Both institutions are interesting to me. The Jedi having long become complacent at the time of the prequels and the Sith having evolved to fight them in a different manner, outwitting the now rather foolish Jedi, rather than combatting them head-on like the Sith of old. I like that we can frown upon certain decisions from the Jedi order and we can understand why certain characters fell to the dark side. I am just a big fan of these grey areas, which kind of makes it ironic that I love Star Wars as much as I do, despite my generally increasing apathy. The stories I’m writing myself are generally more grey. And that doesn’t mean that characters can’t clearly be classified as good or evil, but if they are clearly good or evil, they can often be a bit questionable, a bit drawn towards the other side here or there.

Hey, Thor. I feel like I, and many people who enjoy Star Wars, feel a sense that the "Original Trilogy" are kind of timeless, and the sequel and prequel trilogies suffer in that regard in comparison; the prequels are the beginnings of an age of movies infatuated with the possibilities of CG, and the sequels suffer from a current-day unwillingness to have heroines struggle, need to improve, or need help or guidance. But I also grew up in the eighties, and I'm sure I have my blind spots to how their own era influenced them. Have you given much thought to how the 70s-80s influenced the OT?

Hey Thor! In Star Wars why were low quality flickering monochrome holograms used for communications? Why not just use 2-D video on a monitor screen? I suppose in 1977 it was hard to imagine that everyone would one day be carrying around a portable communications device with a fairly high quality screen, but is there an in-universe explanation? Also, how do they have instantaneous communication between people lightyears apart? I’d assume somehow transmissions were sent through hyperspace? And why do holograms resemble Force ghosts? Thank you for your great Star Wars content!

I don’t know if there’s an in-universe reason for using staticky holograms, but out-of-universe it’s the grandfather clause. Staticky holograms are such a part of the Star Wars identity that it’d feel weird to switch to a screen. And holograms just feel more sci-fi. A video call with a screen is just too normal to fit in.

I keep saying this but the problem is that the sequels, their events and the outcome for Luke and his friends is what hurts my interest It’s hard to get invested in a story set before this era yet still canon with it because we know anything that happens or any arc really is going to be proven meaningless These characters from the Disney plus shows and their creditbilty depend on the downfall of the empire: Andor officially gives his life for a red herring as the Vader comics on Exegol confirm. Luke’s appearance on Mandalorian is meaningless if he’s doomed to grow up to become Jake. I’ve seen so many videos attempt to claim that Luke in TLJ and Luke in the Mandalorian/ROTJ are one in the same but it’s obviously not the case. The whole point of Luke being portrayed the way he was in TLJ was indeed to be unexpected so I don’t know why people would smell these arguments But yes it is the inevitability of the sequel trilogy that kills my interest: the sequels negate everything in the clone war era and the civil war era and every character as well
