I live in the same city as Mr. McDonald. He is one of the very , very best musicians, song writers and singers in the world of music. Last night I was in a store and checking myself out and I looked up and he was standing across from me, checking out too. Just me , him and an employee. This is someone who ( like many others have listened to over the years) I consider the very, very best!! I introduced myself and we had a nice , short conversation. I was able to tell him that I thought “ he was the best singer ever! “ He was so humble and so very nice. He thanked me, asked my name and we shook hands. I respected his privacy and shaking hands with someone who is just not in the Rock and Roll H of F but a very nice person was a privilege! I can check this off my bucket list🙂I hope you meet him someday 👍🙂

We saw Michael McDonald tonight in the very small venue of Rock Hill South Carolina. We see many concerts of all kinds. It's our thing to do. By far, this was the best concert we've seen this summer. We got to meet him too. Poor man was soaking wet by the end....a very humid night in the deep South. Highly recommended for a very soulful and spiritual experience...

I've checked out the Freddy Scott, Billy Joel, George Benson and the Ray Charles/Michael McDonald (even mikes earlier 'fast' version) renditions of this tune, and to me Mike has arrived at the definitive version here (almost 50 years later!) by slowing it right down to inject the proper level of feeling into the lyrical subject. I don't think the song was ever meant to be a 60's slow groove, cocky crooner tune - I think it was really meant to be a pleading, slow burner ballad all along. Just goes to show how the right tempo and arrangement can really spark a tune.

I just love Michael's voice. I find it amazing that he is gifted to have a voice with such feeling, and coupled with being able to tickle the ivory keys of the piano while singing is phenomenal! I have heard people describe Michael's voice in different ways, but I just read a comment below that is the best yet. Someone said Michael's voice was so unique and powerful that he can "do it to you" with his voice!" Now, that was an amazing description. In Michael's best interest, I'm sure he's glad that was only a concept and left only to one's imagination...LOL!
