Equal to anything in music to my ears is a broad repertoire of Motown, sometimes to tears including a phenomenal American Idol performance by Jacob Lusk 12 years ago in a rendition of Mervin Gaye’s “You’re All I Need to Get By”. Phenomenal: and also accompanied by a grand master of bass. I am no professional but I considered that as equal to any vocal I have ever heard. Barry Gordie was asked about the surprise popularity of his “black” music. He replied that he did not produce black music, that he produced music. Amen. This attitude needs to permeate all.

That's the beauty of artists like this..... Was thinking the same thing while listening to Steve Perry's new album...... There just aren't artists these days with 1/10th the talent being promoted in the industry. There is tons of talent out there, it's not like it doesn't exist, we just have a music industry that's become a machine of image with no regard for said talent anymore. It's all about the "quick fix" now. The 2.5 minute single. No such thing as long form exploring, LP's, or supportive radio to even play it, it's come down to a business of selling singles on iTunes. If you want to find modern talent, you have to seek it out yourself, there isn't a machine to feed it to you anymore.

Pure, raw talent. No effects needed. No fancy costumes, light shows, profanity, sexual innuendo, or any of that other crap. Just raw, pure talent from 2 amazing performing artists supported by top instrumentalists. How lucky some of us have been to grow up in an era where talent, rather than marketing, hype and technology has tried to reaplace talent (but never will, really).

Neither Loggins or McDonald have seemingly lost a bit of their voices. Rarely do you hear singers continue to sound stellar over the course of their career. Time tends to takes a toll on the vocal chords. But whatever they’ve done over the years to protect their voices - combined with God’s good grace in blessing their instruments - has given us even better performances out of them both.

The difference between music today and then is BACK THEN musicians were hungry, listened to each other and played together and most importantly were not given everything on a silver platter, you earned everything.Today Tv ratings and countless unrealistic musical shows like the Voice, show copy cat performers competing against each other, not playing or listening really listening and complementing each other and the song. Everyone is trying to outdo the other person and not playing as a team. Everyone has to be the only star and quess what they go solo and their music is soulless and way overproduced and overplayed. When you look at Greats like Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald you immediately know of the greatest bands or players they played with. Michael McDonald completely added a new dimension and direction to The Dobbie Brothers who were already great but they worked with in their talents to complement their individual and collective abilities.playing for the music not the almighty dollar. The Music industry has ruined musical integrity and creativity to satisfy its bank accounts and made music listeners unaware really unaware of all the ingredients that go into making music magical. Its not a freaking IPhone app or Pro tools or guitar hero.

I was lucky enough to be at this live-studio-audience recording. Kenny Loggins is my favorite recording artist. I can see myself in the audience to the right of the stage. They told us to wear bright colors. I had on a fuchsia dress. It was a Sound Stage Production featuring Kenny Loggins. It was filmed in Chicago on August 3, 2016. (Not 2017). Michael McDonald was a guest performer for only a few songs. Musician Thundercat, David Foster were other musicians and performer who did a few songs with KL. The show was awesome because KL is such a perfectionist that he kept stopping the recording if he didn’t like the way it was going. Then he would make everyone do a retake. We got to see it all. It was wonderful. The recording went from 7:30pm-10:30pm. I loved every moment. It was filmed at the WTTW Studios @5400 N. St. Louis, Chicago, IL. We got special invites and pricing for being paid members of our local PBS Station in Chicago. I specifically remember the date and I’m looking at pictures right now that we I took while waiting in line to get in. This was a very memorable day for me. Then the very next month, Michael McDonald filmed his episode for Sound Stage. I was there, too! It took quite sometime before the recording aired - it could very well have been in 2017 when KL’s it hit the airwaves. Anyway, thank you FFF for posting this!
