Weirdly this sounds a lot more like classic Robert Plant than the final version. Always thought his voice sounded off in the original, but here you can clearly tell that it was slowed down and his voice is deeper than usual.

Interesting is the fact that in the key of A this becomes a story form or more so. I have listened to what ultimately became the finished track numerous times. This version is sweeter somehow.

Plant's voice sounds a bit high here, so maybe they recorded in A, then slowed it down so that he could sing it in G#, then returned it to the proper pitch. What annoyed me trying to learn it is that all the YT vids showing how it's played all have their guitars tuned to G#, meaning they haven't heard the original. Without tuning down yourself, there was no way you could learn it their way. Imagine my delight when I found a live clip and JP is actually playing it in A. Yes! I was right all along - if you play guitar, you can hear that it HAS to be in A. PS: I scored a copy of the Immigrant song single with this on the B-side from a dumb DJ who didn't like it in 1975 or 76 and thought I was on top of the world, because no one had ever heard of it - they'd all bought the Zep LPs, but not the single - so I was the only one who had it. I just slipped it into the cover with the LP, together with the poster shown here from 1:49. By the way, I can play it now - in A.

Doesn't seem like it's fully corrected? If I play to it with normal tuning, it's still off. I'm also assuming it was originally record a half step down and then slightly slowed down afterwards.

Try it at .75 speed. It's a trip. Maybe the key is right on this version, But I doubt they would have played this song at this speed.
