I liked the cheese wheel flip😊 I will try that next time. A tip that worked for me on the cheese press set up. Looks like your kadova mould might set down inside a 5 gallon pail then take a second pail and dump your fresh whey inside. Use the warm whey as your weight and the cheese is kept warmer longer so the whey will keep coming out. Both buckets stacked help prevent the cheese falling over. And everytime you redress the cheese, just dump the extra whey out.

Gabbing a hard time making clabber. I thought I was finally timing it right before it left the lactose stage but about 2 clabber generations later there is gray mold on the top! After 24 -48 hours later. What am I doing wrong?

How did you train mabel to let down for you guys after nursing calves? I bought a jersey recently that has just been raising her calf and we are getting close to weaning her but I'd like to keep milking the cow because she isn't yet bred and I need to wait a few more months to get her on schedule for our farm.
@VenisonforDinner9 ай бұрын
She doesnt actually let down that well, she mostly holds back for them. I'd guess shes making 3-4 gallons a day and we get 1 gallon in evening. In may they will be weaned and she will let down better after 2-3 days on average. Def keep milking, drying up a not bred cow is a good way to make it harder to get them bred.

How can I increase the amount of cream my cow produces?
@VenisonforDinner9 ай бұрын
Basically, you cant naturally. Genetically a cow produces about the same amount of butterfat per day. At beginning of lactation its spread over a larger volume of milk and looks like lower butterfat because per gallon it is but as overall volume goes down into the lactation, butterfat per gallon goes up. Different feeds produce more or less volume and thus appears like a cow is producing more or less butterfat but it’s basically the same per cow per day. So mothers butterfat and production is so important to ask when buying a cow!
@amandaw309 ай бұрын
I just bought the same sized butter churn from Wisemen. How high can you get away with filling the jar? I know it says 7 quarts but I was wondering if you can actually get away with more and still get the butter to break without burning out the motor?
@VenisonforDinner9 ай бұрын
I'd agree with that amount.

i never see you rinse the buttermilk from your butter why not? I find the butter has a sour taste if you don't rinse it

For us it doesnt! Often water introduces cold loving bacteria that make your butter taste off too

Question: I've heard a lot of influencers talking about how they would never put their children on camera until the kid is old enough to decide for themself. I totally respect your family your choice, I was just wondering what your thought process is about this if you'd be willing to share. I'm considering how to approach it with my own kids one day.

We share our kids without sharing in depth about our kids if that makes sense? Like you see them/know their names but you dont know their personal lives/intimate details.

What kind of cheese is that wheel? I know you added a clabber culture but that is largely a dead word in America since raw is so heavily taught against :/ I thought clabber was just what the milk did if it was raw and left out at a warm temp.
