Hi I’m trying out this recipe but confused because in the video you Don’t let it rise twice for 2-3 hours before shaping life the blog post says For the make it one day method; it doubles and you punch it down after 2-3 hours and then let it rise another 2-3 before shaping. You may be saying but Kate - never has my dough ever been ready to shape after such a short time! I'm here to tell you, my dough, which is NEVER ready to shape after such a short time...is ready after such a short time. Like, hold my beer and watch this. Even if my house is cold, it still works. If my house is like REALLY cold...I'll turn the oven on for a minute, turn it off, then put the shaped bread to rise in there. Is it rise twice then shape and rise again? Thanks

Do you mind sharing if you are milling your own grains for making bread? I've noticed you have a grain mill, but didn't see much about bread. I would love to know if it is worth it for my family.
@VenisonforDinner5 күн бұрын
Yes I mill a lot of grain for our breads and other baking too! We love the end product with fresh ground grains!
@natasharipka59755 күн бұрын
@VenisonforDinner Thank you so much for responding! When you make bread, do you mix freshly milled grains with a flour you purchase? Or just use straight fresh milled grain? Thank you!

Do you ever mix lard and tallow and if not, why?
@VenisonforDinner5 күн бұрын
While it seems like they are the same thing, lard is greasier than tallow.

I resently learned about pemmican which could be a great addition to your car kit pack. There has just been so many people stuck in icy conditions, one has to be prepared.

We love it , nice for winter months but we rely on an old "wolf" commercial gas range changed out the jets to burn propane, keeps the house cool during the summer months but we do burn at least 8 to 10 cords of mixed wood in the winter to keep this house at about 68 to 72 all winter long and we seem to have long cold winters at 8.340 feet , don't get me wrong i have a wood cook stove in the kitchen along side the wolf and learned to cook and bake like a champ as well as a large wood heat stove in the dinning room as well as a nice pot belly heat stove in the main living room and have heat grates to the upper floors to insure it dose not get to warm upstairs , getting to this point in life has been a learning challenge we have installed a wood fired water heater and that costed a fair amount but we have started to see the savings add up in less then 2 years to the point of a big smile on my mans face . Seasons Greetings and good luck .. as far as meat we never bother the deer but we always manage to get 4 elk every year ..?

Hi! I’ve made this several times (love it) but twice now it hasn’t set up and it’s still liquid “after” culturing. Any ideas what might be happening?
@VenisonforDinner5 күн бұрын
Is your milk close to expiry date? Did you get the temperature up to 185 F and down to 115 before stirring in the culture? Did it incubate in a warm place? My mom just recently had a problem and it turns out to be milk too close to expiry date!

I started storing extra dry and canned goods last year. We are 40 min from a grocery store, 10 min from an expensive corner store. Not having to run to the store, if I need something is great, especially during winter months. I plan my trips to town; get groceries, animal feed, mail, etc usually once a week.

@VenisonforDinnerАй бұрын
In the fridge it will keep at least a few weeks. We keep it in freezer until we need it. Then it sits on the counter for. Few days until we use it up.
