I like that, amidst all of James' grunts/effort voicelines, there's at least one high-pitched panicked one where his voice cracks. Lets you feel cool while curb-stomping monsters, but still grounds the experience as "you are a random guy who was not prepared for any of this."
@celes420172 ай бұрын
I find Angela’s voice actress incredibly talented to play a flat affect then jump right back into animation. I see this all the time with people who have severe depression or PTSD. I just looked her up and her name is Gianna Kiehl. I hope she receives more offers for voice acting soon.
@mastermarkus53072 ай бұрын
I'm surprised by some of the people I see criticize her for being too flat compared to the original. I personally think that her performance in the remake hits harder because it feels more "real" (like you said, depression can make you emote in a flat way) while in the original there were definitely a few moments where she was meant to sound "disturbed" or "disconnected" but it just came off like a bad line read. Same with some of James' lines and how people praise the original voice actor there. I think it's an issue of some people really loving SH2 and not wanting to admit that it's not perfect; sometimes stuff is good, but flawed. Excuse my digression in a reply like this. 😅

7:04 Apparently, the collaboration between Konami and Bloober Team was quite the opposite 😆 Konami wanted this remake to be completely different from the original but Bloober Team convinced them to remain faithful. Reminds me of the time Konami legitimately wanted to include an Alessa vs. Josh Super Saiyan battle at the end of Homecoming and Double Helix were like, “Yeah… we’re not doing that.” 💀
@AshChiCupcak2 ай бұрын
Bloober also convinced Konami to release this on Steam instead of making it a PS5 exclusive which was a smart idea. They showed them Capcom's profits from Resident Evil and was like "You want this" and they agreed lol. Komani has lost sight of who they are over the years, even some of the original Silent Hill team came back to prevent Komani from messing up their legacy. We were lucky to have so many passionate people working on this to help preserve the silent Hill we wanted.

@AshChiCupcak2 ай бұрын
@@donnybuoy That's actually why I feel so bad for the Downpour devs, they were so passionate about silent Hill but their game got destroyed by Komani wanting all the monsters designs changed to like spooky clowns and other generic crap. I feel that Bloober Team nailed the apartment segment by swapping the coin puzzle and clock puzzle from one building to the other. The way it’s paced feels much more evenly spread out than the original to me. The way they completely changed the second apartment building’s layout also helped. So far I’m really happy with just about every alteration they’ve made.
@TwistedSislerАй бұрын
I felt the opposite about the apartment segment. I thought them adding an otherworld segment to the apartments was unnecessary and spoiled Otherworld too soon (In the original you don't see Otherworld at all until the Jacob's Ladder scene in the hospital). They also took the coin puzzle which was a notoriously difficult puzzle in the original and made it childishly simple in the remake. That said, I think the apartment complex map and structure was done better in the remake, but I still had issues with it. I might not have had a problem with them turning Blue Creek into an Otherworld segment if the Otherworld segments weren't the worst part of the remake (sadly). If they were more open and less linear and about half the amount of enemies, they would have been way better.

At roughly 41:45, when Angela is thinking about handing over the knife, I could be looking at the scene wrong, but I'm pretty sure she doesn't have a reflection there. Manniquines are stealthy hiding behind stuff to get a jump on us, if we lose sight they'll find new corner to hide. Plus their design in otherworld is slightly different like they are wild version of normal one. Like domestic cat and feral cat.

John talking to the characters is funny af and laughing about it is probably my favorite part lmao. "Didja mark that on your map, James, didja mark that-?? Okay, alright!" and "Hey, Maria, they got drinks in the toilets!" I appreciate how John keeps making an effort to not spoil things for new viewers (like how he knew twists Kimmy and the other viewers didn't know and played it cool to let the twists have the best impact in Zero Time Dilemma), after all some people may not have seen it before and the remake is how they're experiencing it for the first time, but also drops these sly references so casually that people who Know will get it, he does it so masterfully lol (there were a few in this video that were so cheekyyy). I don't especially mind the added length of the game so far, I think because knowing the plot already and just admiring the updated town and changes, but with how little has actually happened in the 5 ish hours of the playthrough already (the comment about it probably being around the 3/4 mark in terms of plot progression in the original by comparison kinda blew my mind lol) I can definitely get that sentiment and if it starts dragging too much I will probably be feeling it myself. Do agree that overstaying their welcome for the sake of making sure the game length is "worth it" is a big problem for horror games in general. Hopefully they continue to do interesting stuff with the added padding!

Edit: I don't know how different the scene with Angela in the apartments is from the original, but I feel like this was really well done. It was very easy to just go "these are people" rather than "these are CGI models voiced by actors" - which is what sounded like everyone's problem with the HD Remaster and Troy Baker. Troy is a great VA but he's almost like... too good? For this particular game? You don't go "yep that's James" you go "yep that's Troy Baker". idk what I'm even saying, I just really enjoyed that cutscene and think the actors did very well! Edit: I think the PH fight takes place in the stairwell in the original game? I don't really remember and I'm basing my guess off of I think Indeimaus' playthrough that I watched forever ago lol Edit: syringe on a park bench? must be in Hartford Edit Gosh that looked like Arthur's hat in that one motel room LOL

Played this part earlier today, recognised instantly the staircase on my way up, knew I was about to have a bad time, and found this on my way down... My mindset was instantly gone from "I know something is going to happen, and how to deal with it" to "Oh shit, he's not there, I might actually be in danger". Yes John you do fight pyramid Head at the end of the apartments in the original game. The main difference is that the room you fight in is much smaller and square shaped and he's much more difficult to avoid, and you basically just have to shoot a million times without it indicating whether or not he's taken damage. Also good Lord it seems like they padded out the length of the apartment section in this. Pretty sure it was nowhere near that long originally
@michaelelmes21352 ай бұрын
Being longer doesn't equal padding. They've moved around and spaced it all differently, and added new elements, to create a longer and fuller experience. You don't have to like it and if it's just padding to you then fine But john is actually playing and doesn't seem to think so, and im playing and I certainly don't think so And also to he honest...the apartments went on FOREVER and were a lot less diverse than this in the original

I know its replaced by icecream now, and there was the pizza in the room u first see Eddie but...man I wanted some line about pizza.😂its just one of the best lines ever, its so ridiculous and uncanny.

Here in Norway its ground floor or entrance when theres no apartments on that floor. If theres apartments on the floor then its the 1.floor. So in a house its the first floor where you walk into from the outside because the whole house is a living area.

I feel like its really the music that sells the remake to me. I dont think the game would nearly be as good without it.

I think the new preformances really add a lot to the overall understanding of the characters and really help bring out details we wouldn't have been able to grasp from the old cutscenes. And I think many of the new bits they added help overall. I actually think the slower pace of this version of the game really helps everything flow a little better pacing wise.

Absolutely agree about bowling lmao! The only time I have fun in bowling is when I stay seated and drink beer

i love Maria's updated look! i feel like if they kept the original it would look really dated, the black mini dress and leather jacket is a very sexy combo imo that fits the character better.

Is the dress supposed to be leather too? It looks that way to me

55:23 that’s where the first fight with pyramid head was in the OG game. The stairs were flooded with water and when you beat pyramid head he walks into the flooded stairwell and then it drains.

Here in Poland we do not use neither "first floor" nor "ground floor." We simply call the ground floor "parter". Simple and leaves no room for doubt. The 1st floor is the one above parter, everyone knows that. As for fighting our conical friend - that fixed shot at the staircase was where the OG "battle" (it was just about running in circles as well until the siren call) took place.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I'm loving John's playthrough! There's some accidental comedic timing that's just incredible. Anyway~ I wanted to experience the Silent Hill 2 Remake fresh, without any spoilers or outside opinions, so I took my happy dog self and lived under a rock so I could get depressed with Silent Hill 2 all over again. But now that I've 100%'d the remake, I have to say, bow-wow! The new faces, voices, and story additions really enhance the SH2 experience. It was hard to see on my first run, when I noticed differences more than I was able to appreciate the new ones, but the second time around it hit incredibly well. And Angela's mirror scene... the second time around. I was in tears. She feels so real now, so tragically human. The reimagined "In Water" ending in New Game+ is also incredible. Bloober and Konami somehow managed to take one of my all-time favorite games and make it even better. While I miss some of the original music, the new tracks, like the one for Magdalene/Anam Cara, are fantastic. And don't get me started on the visuals. Now that I've barked my totally relevant opinions, back to watching John! 🐶💖
