Hey. You Don't "Need" Adepts. Stop it.

Look, I get it. Adept weapons are a flex, and they have more versatility due to their access to adept weapon mods. However, not EVERY weapon 'needs' to be adept to be viable. I don't even use adept weapon mods on EVERY adept weapon! Let's cover a few adepts that I use NORMAL mods on, and why its mostly fine to not have adepts in Destiny 2.

The amount of importance that's placed on guns is designed to keep you grinding for guns, but generally speaking as long as you have weapons for champions and have high dps meta PvE weapons you should be fine. Honestly have enjoyed this game a lot more (and played a lot less) once I realized a 3/5 or hell a 4/5 god roll is more than enough as long as I play smart.

the difference between a 3/5 vs a 5/5 can be quite a lot. Like my 3/5 death adder vs my 5/5 stochastic is insane. That stochastic is a dream to use. But like is the difference worth the grind? cuz the difference can be quite large but the grind is so much more. only trying to secure decent perks is way more than enough for any content in the game. I have been using low level crafted guns in raids recently because as long as I play a bit safer it makes no difference. Even during damage phases, like for example using my lvl 1 semiotician vs ascendency vs other people with the god roll meta rockets... like im only a little bit lower on the dps side and im certainly never the lowest dps in an lfg. so like the rolls are great and when you get them its amazing... but you definitely dont need them and at the end of the day, its a game. if grinding the god roll isnt fun why would you do it?

It’s not even about playing art, the differences just aren’t the big and don’t matter to the vast majority of players. The only real advantage adepts have are adrpt mods and outside of high level PvP they don’t matter.

Love that Fallout is encouraging folks to step into Trials. I just have one piece of advice, since they will inevitably end up on my team. Whether players are down on your side or the enemies', PLEASE PLAY AROUND THEM. Revives win games, so get yours up or keep theirs down, this will lead to more success and perhaps even enjoyment in the "endgame" PVP.

I also got some advice, be ready to rush with your team for the first pick. If your teammate is going in after the first pick, that is your queue to follow up and back them up. Hold a leash close to each other so that you're not gonna fall behind but also not too close for bunching up for easy multi kills. Trials is very fast after the first kill, players with use that momentum to steamroll you and if you're not prepared then the round is very hard to take back.

I love the change to increased trials weapon drops. Before it never seemed worth it unless you were going flawless as the only real way to get the trials weapons was to grind up to rank 10 & 16 to unlock the guns which was not fun for someone who's not good at pvp. With the changes its amazing to finally have some amazing trials weapons for pvp and even though I'll probably never get flawless it's amazing after a SINGLE WIN I have a super solid chance of getting a trials weapon to drop. This weekend alone I finally unlocked Igneous hammer, astral horizon, the glave, and especially the heavy GL which i was nervous about cause it has BnS and could be a super good DPS option at some point if heavy GL's got buffed.

If you’re grinding trials rank wait for a bonus reputation weekend. Makes a HUGE difference. The other thing I do is wait for Saint to have a good roll on the rank up reward weapons before claiming them (they change weekly). I focus after that.

Yep, same here. I've been playing D2 since launch and have never before bothered to play much Trials because, as a mediocre PVP player (not to mention being a father with limited playtime), it wasn't worth getting destroyed for hours on end just to maybe, potentially get one gun at some point. I'm almost certainly never going to go Flawless even once. But this season, I've already reset my Trials rank and *actively enjoyed doing it,* because I was getting consistent loot. And to the point of Fallout's video here, obviously none of that loot included Adept weapons, but that's totally OK by me. Even a non-Adept Igneous Hammer is still pound-for-pound one of the best hand cannons in the game and feels amazing to play with.

If you're going to improve through forcing yourself to encounter better players all the time, just do Trials when it rolls around. At least you'll get good loot out of it.

When it comes to Adept weapons I feel there's a stronger argument to get the normal versions when Trials is being discussed. But it's a very different case when it comes to Nightfall weapons. SURE all the same points about stats can be said, but the issue is more in the frequency of drops. When GM's are guaranteed to always give you an Adept upon completion, it's really hard to justify playing Nightfall's on any other difficulty when you might not even get a Normal Version to drop that week AT ALL.

GMs aren't a guaranteed drop, but you have about an 80-90% to get a weapon drop. If you don't, it's not that difficult to run it again and you'll almost certainly get one then. As for your argument to weapon drops, you have a point. Only at Legend and Master do you start to get consistent weapon drops, but at that point why not just go the extra distance and run it on Grandmaster? You'll get a slightly better weapon, but it'll at the very least be a better weapon.

As a fun little add on to Cataphract, the non-Adept version is actually weirdly better since the +3 Blast Radius it gets from the Adept masterwork will actually *lower* your damage if you have Spike Grenades. Mind you it's like 0.2% less damage so it'll literally never make a difference but it's just really funny that it makes the Adept worse in a really minor and weird way.

Frankly, part of the issue is that there aren't enough videos like this. The conversations have always been about the Adept versions and the regular ones are left out in the cold. Actually being able to get weapons to drop from wins is the change needed to make the practice pool have actual value. I just get farmed in the challenger pool until I get lucky, get six wins then have less than 10% chance to win after that and the rewards were so infrequent in the practice that it didn't feel rewarding to play. Also - Selfishly it wasn't that I didn't want to go after regular guns, I just got to the point I didn't want to add to the population. Let the sweats have to fight each other more often and all that.

Played my first ever bunch of Trials games solo last weekend. Few good games, many rough ones, never went above a 3-win streak. Got a Messenger, an Opening Shot IgHam (which I think is good?) and a full set of Hunter armour out of it that I promptly transmogged 'cause it looks pretty good. I would recommend fellow noobs like myself to hop in, especially since that would add more skill variation to the folks we'd fight against. Just make sure to take a short break every hour or so. For retaining overall mental stability.

To be fair - the arrowhead brake example also works in reverse as an advocate of adept weapons too. If you were going to be using counter balance mod to get 15 recoil direction with e.g. Hammer forged rifling as the barrel, you would arguably get better results by running Arrowhead brake and an adept range mod - turning an otherwise not "god roll" into one. The flexibility of adept mods are their strongest feature. Neither situation should be used as a reason to not aspire for the other, and "God rolls" exist in a personal bubble as much as you care about them - it just highlights the difficult situation Bungie has to create rewarding high tier rewards in pvp without snowballing the strong to just become stronger.

I think adept weapons should drop if you reach platinum even on hero difficulty Nightfall, same thing with adept ciphers, on a lower drop rate perhaps. For Trials adept weapons should drop with 7 wins on the card (not flawless) and/or when you reset your rank with Saint-14. Some people will probably think that it will cheapen adept weapons if every Joe Schmo can get them, to me, that makes no sense at all. The people that get adept weapons from Trials every weekend don't really need those weapons to kick regular peoples butts, perhaps it COULD even the odds a little bit if people like me could get an adept weapon to drop once in a while. It would also give more incentive for me to enter Trials every weekend.

Honestly blanket statements like this spread misinformation hard. Messenger is like the worst case scenario for this discussion as adept counterbalance is awful and normal counterbalance literally being the superior pick. If you take a look at very stat reliant weapons such as SMGs, snipers, or hand cannons, the difference becomes far larger. 10 range on an smg can be the difference of a whole meter, which is percentage wise far more of its total range. Hand cannon share this characteristic as well, with certain stat thresholds being a necessity such as 65 base stability (the old 68). Snipers have terrible base AE and need handling. Adept Icarus gives 15 AE and 5 handling, the equivalent of the amount give by the corkscrew barrel option. That’s literally massive, allowing things like Eye of Sol to hit 100 handling while still speccing for 75 range (OS brings to 100) and hitting the 68 handling requirement for ophidians to max out the handling stat (excluding scalars). Especially after the zoom changes, each individual stat point of range matters more on all weapons changed by the range repackaging. If at all possible, try and get adept versions for PvP smgs, hand cannons, and snipers. These three weapon archetypes are the most affected by stat boosts. If you care about bows and fusions I would also aim for adepts, as adept mods offer the only way to directly change accuracy (bows) and draw/charge time (both). Some should also consider adept LMGs for PvP if they ever get adjusted, as adept backup mag in certain instances allows you to pull more heavy from boxes than normal backup mag, so while LMGs are not PvP meta right now getting a PvP adept with adept backup mag would be a good futureproofing pick up. Adepts don’t matter I would say about 90% of the time, however there are clear instances where an Adept roll is clearly and markedly better and should be prioritized if at all possible.

It's moments like this where I question why they even have adepts be anything more than a special skin you earn. Like... for the few cases it does matter, why create an even bigger disparity in the haves and have-nots and why force people to re-farm weapons they already have? I mean, I get why they do it. But... there's got to be a better reward system and progression curve than this.

Inferior? Depends. Trials, maybe if you dont count adept mods (which I would for PvP for the min/max). Nightfall? Also depends since you can't craft them so you only have the non adept to compare it to. Raid weapons? Now that I would say Adepts are superior, if we're talking just numbers. You can enhance perks for Adepts just like Crafted weapons except when you level the enhanced adept to 20 they get I believe +3 in stats vs craftable which I think was +2 on top of the enhanced perks. Only downside being you need a drop for the perfect column 3 and 4 perks vs craftables which you need the 5 red borders. But if we don't take the acquisition into consideration and just look at the numbers on paper: an Enhanced Adept raid weapon will be better than a crafted of the same roll. Of course crafted rolls you can swap at any point or even craft multiple of the same weapon vs Adepts where you're stuck with the roll you get.

I literally had an ex friend gimme flack for me not going for adepts ever, saying things like me being braindead for not wanting an adept for the PVE side of things Big Ones Adept Mod but he's a tryhard and I'm not and am satisfied with my gear. Same, only weapons I even slightly care about getting as an adept, are if the adept mods are actively going to impact it's play. Bow's as an example with drawtime mod, fusions with charge time.. etc. Otherwise am happy to farm out the roll I want of the non-adept. As getting 5/5, or closer to it at least, is more important then the adept status itself. (if incredibly lucky and land a 5/5 adept then more power to ya)

Agree…my igneous hammer that I main is a regular one. the only way I’m going to replace it, is if I get the adept version with the same role or slightly better…but there’s plenty of times that I outperform be people with Adept Hammers. Does it every little bit help? Yes. But the difference is much tbh. Looks cool though.

When it comes to Nightfall weapons it's totally worth grinding out Hero difficulty until you get at least 1 of the weapon to drop - then you can focus your Engrams at Zavala to get a decent roll.

There are only really a couple instances where adepts do something a non adept can but it's not a big deal for most people. For example: Pre-Astyanax is the only Precision bow that can get a base 540 draw time using Elastic, Fiberglass, a Draw time MW, and an Adept Draw time mod. Also its the only way to run Adept Big Ones, however this just makes things convenient so you don't have to keep swapping the normal ones around and IMO should be a normal mod instead of an Adept anyways. Though for PvP weapons I'd argue that, if you can, you should go for the adept to get the increased stat bump for master working it. Even if it's a little bit sometimes that's enough to make it hit that threshold to gain a significant enough benefit.

I mean it's a smart trick so players value adepts more than normal ones, I think for certain weapon archetypes those 10 Stat points can make a minor difference but in most cases you probably will never need a adept weapon I mean 10 more range on an exalted truth or pali or igneous are nice but In comparison they add so less to the overall package, I even think adept weapons from trials and gms need a update I would like if you have the possibility to choose a masterwork as well.

Love the take Fallout 💜 Back during season of the risen (Witch Queen launch) I got for me a 5/5 Aisha's Embrace, I use a regular targeting adjuster mod on the weapon and even if my roll was a identical adept 5/5 god roll, I would still use a regular targeting adjuster mod. Actually using the weapon(s) you would never actually notice the difference between the two. Adepts are nice to have Sure but only if you care about that perfect Min/Max loadout. 9 -/ 10 times still you would not notice

For the record before someone asks what my roll is. It is Stability Masterwork. Chambered Compensator. High Cal rounds or Light Mag. Perpetual Motion. Multi-Kill Clip. Other than the -5 handling from Chambered Compensator it is literally a perfect roll and the -5 handling is a very Very minor negative that you can make up with 1 dexterity mod... Or because I'm a warlock main, running Ophidian Aspect which does solve that issue. Again if you took That roll and made it adept there would be no noticable difference between my roll and the adept IMO

@@AliceOfCrystal_ Completely agree, on several weapon types I still use counterbalance or targeting (adept cb stock is garbage and I'd never use it, same with adept targeting) so at that point you might as well be running a normal roll, especially if it's a normal 5/5 vs an Adept 4/5. A ton of PvE weapons I run adept big ones so if it wasn't adept it would basically make no difference. Not to mention +10 in a stat on PvE weapons just don't matter. People highly overestimate the value of adepts outside of a select few where it makes a difference

I cant expect a millionaire to understand the perspective of the lower class. When the millionaire hears the poor cry because they can only get $90 instead of $100 they think to themselves "whats wrong with them? Its only a 10 dollar difference!" But they dont realize their riches keep them from seeing the extra value and the problems on the poor. For many people; knowing the are forced to settle for less than the best due to their own inability is depressing. Seeing a less than perfect version of the thing they desire most is worse than never having recieved it at all. You may not understand it, but i do, and for those people there should be some sort of way to bring equality that doesnt rely on paying for a carry or begging some full time streamer for a carry.

I've noticed that every once in a while, after masterworking a non adept version of a weapon that can drop as adept, you can slot in an adept mod if you have had an adept mod drop before.

Honestly, the one adept weapon I have doesn't even fit my playstyle... if I can get a good group going, I'd be more than willing to run several more GMs with them to grind out another adept weapon or five so I can experiment a bit more, but so far I have to say I've found more success and more fun running the right exotic and 2 non-adept weapons with rolls and mods that may or may not even be in the meta, but synergize really well with the rest of my build... at the end of the day, I'm a powerhouse in my own right, I can sufficiently contribute to a team for higher level content, and most importantly, I have fun along the way

I think the biggest reason to favor adepts is actually the PvE weapons from GM nightfalls. Not due to the actual improved stats or adept mods on the Adept versions BUT because of the guaranteed drop from platinum on GM runs. The drop rate on non-GM runs is abysmal and makes farming FAR less viable compared to doing GM runs and getting guaranteed adept rolls. BUT you can still focus engrams for the non-adept version as long as you get a SINGLE drop...so that honestly is a totally viable option, that doesn't even require continuing to farm a potentially shit strike as long as you get the drop once EVER.

I have The Inquisitor and it’s by far my favorite slug shotgun in PVP. The roll I have wouldn’t make a difference if it was Adept. Maybe it would give me one extra meter of range to max it out, but that’s not something I’m willing to grind for.

This is how I feel with most enhanced perks when it comes to crafting. The overall difference between enhanced and not doesn’t warrant the grind required to get the alloys. If I got the alloys on hand I’ll use them, but I won’t go out of my way to farm them.

Tried going for the base GL for trials out of 12 of them not one had bait and switch and I play for about 3 hours and got to rank 10…I did get a spike grenade,envious,cascade one so it’s has been fun playing with it. I did solo q for it and the team balancing was completely one sided after my first game tho so I only stuck it out for the GL. I never been flawless in my 9 years of playing and I don’t think I ever will but if I get a chance at something I can use I’ll try to go for it.

I don't do go after Raid, GMs, or Trials weapons, primarily because I've always been a solo player, to an aspect. It's too much of a struggle to go for those things, overall. My last Raid clear occurred in June 2019 (my only Last Wish clear, and scored 1K), The newest Dungeon I've cleared, was GoA in early 2022, pre WQ (and Normal mode). My endgame is doing Seasonal stuff, Vanguard playlist, and Hero Nightfalls. I haven't touched PvP much since before Beyond Light, and I prefer to not go in IB by myself, and I haven't played Gambit in almost a year, I think.

I mostly go for adept since “hur dur adept better” in my brain but if I can’t get a good adept messenger, the new nightfall bow, or a good adept raid weapon then I’ll just either find a substitute, get the non adept version or use a crafted version of said weapon

I dunno. I kinda do. I have an Exalted Truth with 85 range and can comfortably fight other HCs with the gigantic stat stick it has. It's not the perfect roll (Outlaw/Rampage), but with the stats it has, thanks to it being Range MW and Adept Range, gives the weapon an edge that normal Exalted would lack. Like, normal Exalted cannot touch an Igneous with Keep Away, but an Adept just might.

Yea this past weekend of trials has really made me reevaluate the importance I put on adept weapons. Winning 7 games in a row and getting no grenade launcher drops, essentially wasting like an hour and a half of my life. Not to mention when I finally get one it’s ass. Definitely just gonna run normal trials and not sweat it out over a weapon I probably won’t ever get a decent roll for. Thank u for this video

It isn't absolutely necessary, it's just easier to make up for the shortcomings of a gun with adept mods. Also great when hunting the god roll to get the extra perk in one of the columns. For pve it absolutely matters being able to slot adept big ones.

I personally don't care at all about adept guns. In PVP I think they have more of a place since every adept mod is meant to PVP minus big ones. I'm more worried about the perks and getting those right. I play a lot of endgame PVE so I have a lot of adepts but these days most of my loadouts are all just crafted weapons. Did master Ir yut with the crafted Briars contempt. All I'm saying is adept stability is not doing anything for my PVE timelost fatebringer but the name is cool so I farmed one.

Bungie actually talked about this. Adept weapons for PvP perform about the same as a normal variant when used by an average player. However, adept weapons greatly boost high skill level player because they know how to make a full use of bonus stats. The real world analogy would be the swimsuit that got banned in olympics. It was pretty pointless for an average swimmer, but professional swimmers were able to use the decrease in resistance and when crazy with it.

I had a ton more fun before when I could deal with non talking solos. I hate getting into a game with 2 teammates that are significantly worse than the 2 talking on the other team

My issue is that it’s still hard to get non adept weapons. Imma straight up say it, I have a skill issue and I just can’t get to flawless no matter how hard I try. Yet I’ve grinded out trials and even after they buffed drop rates, I still can’t get a damn thing. It’s really annoying to get the normal versions of stuff when, if you have the skill, then getting adept versions is 100% chance whether you go flawless or do a gm. And for someone like myself where I’m just good enough at pvp to get a decent amount of kills but not nearly good enough to go flawless, it sucks

I use my normie summoner alot because it feels good and its a perfect roll to me. Would it be great to throw a plus 10 range on it? Sure, but it feels good and I play well with it, so I use it. Stats aren’t everything on a gun. I will admit, the old adept shaders are dope, so I am salty I never got the old trials adepts.

Man i’m still usually too nervous to go into Trials. I’ve always wanted to go to The Lighthouse cause at this point, much like going on a date with a woman, i’ve just never been able to do it, but I also had an absolute nightmare of an experience trying to grind for Recluse back in the day and genuinely, in the deepest depths of my soul, hate PvP because of it. Like even my clan mates tell me “Dude you’re only get better if you actually try” and all this other mushy wholesome shit but i’m like *i’ve been trying to go The Lighthouse since D1 people, if I couldn’t do it then I ain’t doing it ever* 😂 Sorry, mini rant.
