7:35 We're an hour in at this point. In the previous LP, by ADVGames4Ever, Mike has not yet met Doc Larsen (he has been to the mortuary, but no-one was in) nor entered the Carnival (not yet open). He has talked to just about everyone else (including Mrs Ramirez twice) and stood around in his bathroom twice. He is just starting his first hypnosis session. Can this frantic pace be maintained?

Here's what Mike says when going to the Hall of death: "How awful! The smell in this room is unbearable! It looks like a rotten mountain of meat." So yeah, they rewrote it so that Mike sounds better. Japanese Mike Dawson is a lot less pathetic and more competent all around.

The implication is that the Dark World of Dark Seed 2 is all in Mike's head, so I guess it has to be something suitably dramatic for him. Then again, the carnival prizes shutting off power to places in the Light World, Mike being able to use things he brought back from the Dark World in the Light World and Jack's dialogue at the end about how maybe third time'll be the charm for the Ancients fly in the face of this hypothesis. The impression I have from "Director of Development" David Mullich's comments in the strategy guide is that they planned to figure out what the hell the Dark World was in the third game (and whether or not Mike Dawson would be resurrected, yes that is something he mentions as a possibility for Dark Seed III), and, well, that game never happened.

For some reason, revisiting Darkseed 2 after this many years is making me nostalgic in the bad sense. It's hella worth it for this commentary and Betus' impressions, though it's a weird feeling laughing so hard you're crying while this vague morbid feeling sits in the back of your head and doesn't really go away. Know what I mean, or is it just me?

so like, giger did original art for the first game, but for the second game he wasn't involved but they still had the license to use his art? like, ALL of his art?? after all these years i can't get over how they just threw catwalks on all these paintings and had mike dawson walk around over it like it's a cohesive world. they can afford to get giger's artwork but can't find anyone who knows how to use photoshop? i'd love to meet someone who worked on this game and just run down my 25,000 point list of everything in this game like "so why did paul have lawn furniture on his roof? what the fuck is that about?"

They did that with almost all of their games, buying an art license for $400,000+ and having no money/talent for anything else. _I Have No Mouth_ lucked out by having Harlan Ellison take a hands-on approach and the only problems were that CyberDreams couldn't design good puzzles, consistent object collision, or sprites that animate correctly. Their voxel-based racing game (yes, that's a thing that exists) commissioned Syd Mead (yes, the Syd Mead that did Aliens, Tron, and Blade Runner).
