rewatched this on a retsupurae binge and this game still holds up, but is also kind of disappointing in a way. I remembered the twist from the beginning, but it's kind of soft to be given so many questions where the only answer is "oh it's like this because the game is metacommentary and trying to be as shocking as possible". this kind of hand waving doesn't really explain the firemen, the wasp woman, the racism, or the high amount of sex the game has (unless they also want to lump in the christian anti-sex media scare "think of the children" nonsense, which is a different issue entirely). what it really comes down to is that this game ends up being the "most 90's" it could possibly be, in the sense that it's tackling very 90's issues by being as edgy and provocative as possible with deliciously cheesy cgi. that being said...! I still think this game is kind of brilliant, even if it's very clumsy. it definitely shows how the developers feel on the issue by having the ending poke direct fun at it, but at the same time the game is deliberately made to desensitize you to gore and it succeeds in it's goal. it uses the medium of being a video game and forcing you to "become a serial killer" to win without slapping you across the face with it and saying you did a bad thing (like spec ops: the line). as other people have said here, it presents its statement in a way where it's almost inviting people to say "nah that's bullshit, screw you" after playing, and make their own judgement based on what they saw. I think a game like this couldn't exist today. not because the content is too shocking or people have become "too soft" or anything, just moreso that politics have become a lot more black and white side taking and the internet being the way it is means the creator would probably get doxxed in a week if the game got enough traction. at the end of the day, i'm glad this game exists. it's got funny moments, unforgettable weirdness, and interesting commentary. but it's not really a good game, just an interesting one.

you know, I get that the whole game is supposed to be commentary on violence in video games and how it doesn't matter, but I still don't really get what they were trying to do with the firemen. maybe it's as simple as a "blazing" joke because it's the 90's... at least its harmlessly offensive, it kind of just wraps around to being hilarious for how far they went with it

This is my most watched Retsupurae video. There's just something special about it. The "comedians" here are painfully unfunny, but they're just so _earnest_ about it. Their whole plan is ridiculous and half-baked, they clearly have no idea what they're doing - but here they are, doing a Kickstarter that had no possible chance of success. Hope that someday we'll get to see that awesome prank they pulled on Sam.

rewatching this now that i've played this game, I actually think it's pretty dope. The story is bootleg akira, but I like the flavour that you can "overlimit" your abilities to instantly kill everyone around you at the cost of dying incredibly quickly

Don't get me wrong, this video is still hilarious at the end of the day, but I'll always view this as one of Retsupurae's rare misses. Maybe it's just because I have a soft spot for these old janky, amateur Machinimas that are clearly created by children lacking the proper equipment since I wanted to do similar things when I was young. You kinda have to view that sort of thing through the lens of a child to get the charm.
