In this video we refurbish a TRS-80 Model 2 Keytronic ‘foam and foil’ keyboard. After learning how to identify the type of keyboard we have a good general cleaning done and a new set of foil/foam pads are installed. We then use a simple BASIC program to test all the keys. Nice work restoring that keyboard! I enjoy cleaning the keys individually as well. I’ll have my keys in a bucket of dish soap water and a clean water container next to it like you. Then when I need a break from busy life I just go down to the workshop, scrub and rinse a few more keys, and dry each with a clean shop towel. Maybe while listening to some music. It sometimes takes me a week to get through a keyboard, but I find it therapeutic.

Nice video! Replacing those foil pads is one of my least favorite things on those machines, but the end result makes it worth the effort.

It went pretty quick once I got the hang of it. Not an exciting job but as you say the results are worth it.

They do, in the UK its called a National Insurance number (actually a alpha numeric code). We also have a health number.

Originally in the USA, it was illegal for anyone to ask for your social security number or to use it for identification purposes. Now it is ubiquitous for ID purposes.

The two chips: 22-950 and 22-908 are the row and column encoders, I believe. I restored a different KeyTronic keyboard and one of the ICs was bad.

@@HeyBirt I reverse engineered most of the keyboard, and I was able to find the pinout of those two chips on an Apple Lisa keyboard schematic.

I think the "Z" key was put back upside down.

I put 3-4 on upside down but thought I found/fixed all. I will double check the Z though, thanks!
