Marty must have heard the joke about the race horse hundreds of times from his father and just changed it enough to make it his own. Maurie told it on Red Faces himself in the great aussie joke with Shane Bourne.

When I started working shiftwork I shared a house with a copper. One of the highlights of finishing nightshift if on a Saturday morning was to have a BBQ and a few beers, a session that they called "Early Openers". This was around '1981. Back then Hey Hey was rarely shown with a live audience. When it was they had the Red Faces segment which, back then, was a lot funnier than what HHIS descended to when it went to nighttime television. There's been talk of reviving the show. I'm not sure why, but in today's politically correct climate it would be too bland. The innuendo that went WAAAY over kids' heads was what made it a hit with adults. As for Somers, well, having met the man personally, I'm not sure that I'd be as kind with the compliments as some have been on here. And Blackman descended into being not much more than a bully.

This is comedy in Australia?
@johncoops68978 ай бұрын
It *WAS* comedy in Australia about 40-50 years ago. On a Saturday morning kids TV show, not prime time. . The jokes are almost certainly too advanced for an average (eg.) American to understand, even back then.
@SupermanForever19798 ай бұрын
@johncoops6897 THIS clip wasn't from 40-50 years ago, and definately not from the morning show. It was from 30 years ago, and it aired during prime time. It helps for you to read the description if it's not already painfully obvious to you.

@@SupermanForever1979 - Yeah, I know THIS clip isn't from 40-50 years ago... I was talking about the show itself, and how it started out. It helps to use your brain, if that's not painfully obvious to you. 🙄 . Anyway, the person you should be angry at is the OP, since THEY are the one who thinks this is how comedy in Australia is now days.

What a load of woke 💩Comedy Is dead
@johncoops68978 ай бұрын
It was a Saturday morning KID'S TV show about 40 years ago. The word "woke" didn't even exist, and the content allowed on TV in that timeslot was heavily regulated. Did you know that unlike the super-woke USA, in Australia we are allowed to say S, F, C, B and even N words on TV outside of kid's normal viewing times?
@johncoops68978 ай бұрын
@@froggy9495 - if you are asking for a definition of the word "woke", you should take the initiative and use a thing called an "internet search engine" to learn the answer.
