+BabyBobaFette The Disney BB8 is a great toy, we have it at home. If you want a toy that won't need fangled apps or a remote control this is the best option. I can't see the point of the target one, too flimsy and over-priced. The Shero one requires a mobile - no good for younger kids. We have the Disney Version at home and my son loves it. My only complaint is that the antenna is flimsy, and one broke the first day of him playing with it.

When I was in (Finnish) 6th grade my teacher, who was also the principal of our school, got like 10 of these small sphere BB-8’s for our school. It was super cool, loved it. We always raced them kn the halfway if we had time. I visited my school in December and they still had them. Yes my teacher/principal was a big fan of Star Wars, and he thaught us many thing about electronics, computers, robotin and everything. My achool was just regular small town school in Finland, but he was just into them and many of our project were like this.

Your cheating Disney. You can't make a BB 8 robot toy that doesn't roll. That's one of the main functions of BB 8 and what makes him special. Take off the function and add a wheel, and you might as well get R2D2 because it's the same except looks different

You forgot about the almost life size remote control/voice activated one. I have it. It is amazing. It functions just like the real BB-8 and responds to voice commands and will come to you when you call it.

I'm quite happy with my Hasbro BB-8. The ball part actually rolls around, it's big enough to be impressive, but small enough to be a desk ornament, and it makes really cute idle sounds and movements.

One thing you didn't mention is that Sphero does have sound, but comes from the phone rather than the droid itself. Probably the only thing that I don't like about it.

You should try this again with the droid depot bb8 at galaxy’s edge! :) he’s $99.99, but it’s worth it. It works similarly to hasbros. It comes with battery’s already in it. It doesn’t come apart easily, and the head doesn’t fall off. You can give him a personality chip at the depot itself to make it feel more like YOUR droid. However, it already comes with voice lines if you don’t wanna pay extra for the personality chip. But here’s what sold me: he will react and interact with areas in galaxy’s edge! I took him and laughed a lot at the characters reactions, and I was pretty surprised when I found out that BB-8 was actually looking around the area himself. It was sick! Definitely recommend!

I got a shpero one at Christmas. it had great sound effects, easy controls, and it doesn't feel like just a little toy thanks to all of the sensors and smart inner workings of it. I think if you plan to get one, get the sphero. you won't be disappointed with it. the packaging was nicer than the ones smartphone come in!

Excellent video! The only thing missing was a vote from your daughters! We have a one year old and a three year old and the three year old loves watching the Sphero on patrol and the one year old just loves watching everything. I'm tempted with the Disney one for its durability but it was my wife who said that she wished you'd have asked your daughter's opinion :). Sphero says on their website that should the battery stop charging for any of their robots (Sphero [2.0] and BB-8) they will replace it at no cost. So that's the reassurance that you won't end up with the proverbial expensive paper weight.

I own the Sphero Bb-8 and you added that the Hasbro has idle noises, but so does the Sphero. You just have to go into the options on the app and turn the sounds on. The toy is extremely vocal if you turn the sound on.

That Sphero story Disney put out is actually a lie.. Insiders have already confirmed the set robot works entirely differently and Sphero was never part of the process of making the prop droid. It was just a story to build hype for the toys. Prop replica groups dug out the truth before the movie was even out. haha

Most of the builders have come to the conclusion that sphero tech wouldn't work like its shown on stage. Its too wobbly and needs a solid attachment from the inside motors to the outer sphere, like a track... That or something even more creative. Either way it wasn't sphero.

I got the BB-8 Sphero for Christmas.. Hates carpet, as stated but it is the best of all. I love it, Yes the head dose pop off at times but it is funny as hell given all the things it dose.

i originally got the sphero one and I am a reg sphero owner but ended up returning it for many reasons, then I got the hasbro target one mainly because its the biggest 9 in and most like the movie one even tho its ball doesnt spin it has a working light on it and it about the right scale for the interactive yoda and r2d2 figures that are 16 in tall

The Windows 10 App just came out for the Sphero BB-8 this week so I was finally able to use mine. It is very impressive what features are available via the app including new holographic messages but I do have to say although the Sphero BB-8 has smoother movements the Hasbro BB-8 is easier to control. It could just be I need more time with the Sphero. I still think the Hasbro packed in a lot of good features for its price and, with batteries, it is ready out of the box.

The best part about the Sphero BB-8 is that new features can be added to it via updates to the app. Sphero recently added a "Watch With Me" feature where you can watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens with him, and he'll react to the movie. When Kylo Ren first appears, BB-8 turns away in fear.

Also it seems to me that the main differences in the driods is who they are aimed towards. The Disney toy seems ment more for young children, 3-6 years old. The Hasbro one aimed more for 7 or 8 year olds and the Sphero is more aimed at teens to adults who have smart phones. I mean afterall what small child has their own iphone? So that toy wouldn't work unless their parent was around to use their phone.. I just wish the Sphero had a second more advanced, larger version on offer around the $500 range in addition to this "entry" level $150 one, and maybe even a larger one in the $1500 range. Similar to how you can get cheap drones for 100 bucks or more advanced larger ones for 600. Hopefully they will expand their line as time goes on with the new movies coming down the road.

Personally I love my Disney store BB-8. He is perfect for displaying (which is what I mainly wanted it for), it is so big and looks perfect on my display. The Hasbro one is pretty big, but the finer details on it suck compared to the Disney one and the Sphero one is just way too small, expensive, and doesn't make any sound not very good for my display at all. Plus I had fun with the Disney ones voice control for the short time I did play with it.
