I'm so pleasantly surprised KZbin threw this video on my home screen. It allowed me to stumble across this awesome channel with all these videos i haven't seen but which are right up my alley. I typically click off these smallish creator videos after about 30 seconds because, no offense, they are usually not the best. But Mark, wow man, the quality of this video was off the charts (including audio quality), particularly considering the size of your channel. You're going to be a quick riser man. It is always funny how KZbinrs say base MBA "are just for students or people doing light photo or video editing and some mailing on the go " Sorry but this how 90% of the population use their laptops. Unless you work in a music production or movie production you definitely don´t need the power of M pro or M Max series those machines are for very very specific work. As an artist I have enough power with my base M2 and sometimes you even feel lost with such a powerful machines. So my advice buy following your needs and not following the hype. My nexrt laptop purchase would be a M5 - M6 16bg MBA. Art is not the machine you use but the creativity you have🙏🙏

Here’s the thing. I’m not gonna recommend you a laptop that’ll last you one to two years. Software updates happen. Throttling the system WILL happen. And as more apps use more resources years after your purchase, I want to make sure people who buy these laptops (which are not cheap by any means) gets their moneys worth. Sure M1 is fast enough for 85% of people. But what if you just purchase the M3 now and you’ll be good down the road??

As an indie game dev using Unity my current laptop fluctuates between 5 and 7 GB used with just Unity and 2-3chrome tabs open. Now mind you Unity isn’t native to MacOS so it’s already gonna run weird to an extent. 8GB is technically not enough to create a basic 2D game? Again, Pathetic, and for $1100 no less.

Hi, mind to share your experience with this 15" MBA in video editing? Does light video editing covers 15-30mins of 4k video? great review.. the 16gb/512gb was 1399 last week on Amazon and BestBuy pricematched it for me.. it's 1449 now but it's changing all the time. The 16gb/256gb variant is 1299 so that's not bad if someone has a hard budget.

If the MBA throttles after a while under heavy load, then benchmarks are useless unless you do them twice, once before and once after the processor heats up. Or maybe a benchmark that runs for a longer period of time.

I'm about to trade in my Air M1 for the M3 with 512 storage and 16RAM! My only challenge is getting my Outlook to work. Somehow Microsoft doesn't recognize my passwords when i try to get Outlook mail on my iPad; I installed it on my M1 years ago and it works there. I'm scared that ported over to an M3, I won't be able to access it. And, of course, Microsoft has eliminated customer support, so if you have a problem, you're screwed. Apple, of course, supports its customers!

Thanks for the review. Just today (Dec 24), I got an M3 512 16gb version for recording music. Will the thunderbolt/USB-C type plugs work for a hub for audio interface and other gear, including maybe a larger monitor? The only thing I've found in research is that the thunderbolt is faster, which shouldn't introduce latency or errors, to my feeble mind. It'll be plugged into 120vac for all work, so the battery isn't an issue. I'm old (67) and have been a PC user, but mac-happy wife gave me this for the mac compatible DAWs available, and I'll probably start with GarageBand before upgrading to Logic. Nice (really nice) holiday gift, but I have to learn it. Thanks in advance for any info, and thanks again for your video.

If you can find an M3 MBP with that Spec for a similar price as a 15” Air, I’d go with that instead. But if you can’t. I would still go with this M3 15” Air. It’s fast and quiet!

2:46 wow. Zero background noise.. I wish there was Voice Isolation into more third party apps.. It doesn't matter how much Apple people pay for their machines, they'll still find ways to drop it. I do like the way Apple's created their own "issue" by fanless... Now every single person when reviewer has to make sure everyone knows "this is fanless and may get warm/hot", something that was unheard of before... No matter how may times i hear that, i still think being 'fanless Mac" is a market gimmick.. Thumbing their nose to Intel and saying "Look what we can do" That all it is... Its good that Apple can prove something, but by doing so, they set themselves up for this saying.

If you’re not doing tons of video editing or software development work, I’d go with the M2 and use the $ you save by not buying the M3 to upgrade the RAM to 16GB. You’d get more value out of doing that than you would by getting the M3. And yes, that would see you through school.

Yes, good choice if you need more screen area. 15" Air is still not that heavy, less than 14" MBP. Also go for 16/512, and you are set for the next 4-5 years or more... If you prefer portability, even AIR 13.6" is fine. Little bit more screen area compared to 13.3 MBP (height of status bar gained) and it is lightest AIR since ever.

I have the budget for the M3 Air base model, and I’m going travelling as well for a long time so working on the go. Is the M3 Air miles better than my pro? I know it is but would love some reassurance

@@HeyMarkLamazing thanks so much for replying to me! I’m very excited indeed man, I can only imagine there’s no comparison because even the M1 chips were miles better than the intel. Do you think the 8gb 256ssd would get bogged down with more simple workloads? I’m a photographer so stills only in Lightroom and photoshop, and I’m a teacher so I teach online too, some feedback is mixed about the 8gb of Ram not being fast enough?

Hi, I'm a student and I'd like to know if the M3 base model is capable of doing tasks for research, ms excel / google sheets, docs, ms teams, jamovi, tableau, canva, and figma (only light use/free version)? My workflow revolves around these applications and let me know if its feasible. Also, what browser would you recommend (aside from safari), that is not heavy on ram?

Id say so. I got the m3 air 8gt 256 and ive been rendering 4k images in under 1-2min whereas the same project would take an hour or more on my old imac 😂 Yes it uses a lot of memory almost maxed out at some points but it still does the job. Well.. as long as my poly-count doesnt get too crazy 😬 So i bet it can handle the tasks you have mentioned

@@alediazofficial2562 Okay so I got the laptop already and I used it based on the things I've mentioned. It is capable. Also, it's crazy that it can also handle Parallels--Windows 11 VM while being a base model 8GB RAM and 256GB. Although I only use it for MS Power BI. (I'm not a gamer). Despite the heavy usage, the battery is soo good that it lasts me the whole day. While memory swap is evident, I say it is what it is--it is my workhorse and I'm happy that it serves its purpose based on my lifestyle and preference.

i see frame stutters. what is 1300MB/s ??? nowerdays? mini pc's can do easily up 3500 to 6500 MB/s

There will most certainly be stutters here and there IF you push this laptop to do heavy intensive tasks. Yup there are PC's that can absolutely do up to 6500MB/s with PCIE GEN 4/5 and while M3 Air can't get up to 6000MB/s yet, the M3 Pro/M3 Max with 1TB or higher can for sure (I've tested it with my own M3 Max).

I ordered a MacBookAir M3 16GB 1TB model in March and within 2-3 months the logic board completely failed on me. Extremely light usage as this was a spare computer for me. Computer suddenly could not start up. A logic board replacement was done. Several months later, the speakers started having hazy sound and a clicking sound. Apple diagnosed this as a hardware issue (no fault of mine). I asked for a replacement unit since this appeared to be a lemon unit. “Senior Advisors” started quoting the Service Agreement to me and informed me that there was no consumer law protection in Singapore. Good to know Apple has such stellar customer service.
