I have an M1 MBA. 512GB, 8GB RAM. My only recommendation is to buy the 16GB variant. If you're using WhatsApp, Chrome, or Google Docs, that kinda thing.. 8GB can easily get overwhelmed. I use Affinity Designer, Premiere Pro and After Effects parallely and it works. Can't say it works perfectly, Premiere is a bit laggy, but I can get my work done. Also consider the fact that there are stock asset websites open which take up RAM too.

Great review. I just bought a 13 inch M3 16GB / 512GB / silver for that classic MacBook look and limited fingerprints. I’m coming from a 2012 15 inch MacBook Pro with quad core i7 2.8gHz. But the heat and fan speed were getting ridiculous on that machine even just surfing the web, let alone doing actual CPU intensive work. Lots of spinning beach balls. Of course, I’ve been using it with OCLP running Sonoma even though it’s unsupported. This MacBook Air was a massive upgrade. But I definitely agree, an SD card slot would be ideal along with a thunderbolt port on the right side. Wouldn’t even have to be an additional port, just move one port to the right.

I was going to buy a 15-in M3 MacBook Air 512/16 in March but seven weeks in three hospitals put a stop to that plan. Once back home I bought one online as I still wasn't very mobile. I specified the 15-in M3 MacBook Air with the 70W charger, which meant it was technically a build-to-order combination. So rather than shipping the day after purchase, I had to wait 8 or 9 days. It's a terrific computer, does all I need (and is capable of much more). It replaced a base model M1 MacBook Air which had been purchased in 2021 from Apple Refurbished stock. It's a shame the Midnight finish is such a fingerprint magnet as that's the colour I chose.

Good to hear something positive for a change about M3 Macs. Lately they get kinda ' bashed' (I exaggerate a bit) because they supposedly aren't a true upgrade over the M2 or even the M1 Macs. The gospel is "Wait for the M4 Macs". I bought an iMac M3 this year and haven't regret it one moment.

The air is as easy to carry around as an iPad.

40c to 50c on normal use is a lot. I'm getting 30c to 40c on my air m1 16gb ram while 30+ chrome tabs, slack, teams, terminals open, spotify, mail, and everything is super fast and smooth.

It hasn’t slowed my use down so im not too worried about it - interesting to see the M1 air is cooler tho!

I believe that the M3 Macbook Air with 16Gb RAM is a great device, but it depends on who uses it and why. For me and my basic use without any video editing, the M1 device with 8 Gb RAM is still enough.
