I enjoyed this information! I use to work in HR for a major airline. In the corporate office where I worked POC/ minorities/ 98% of the Black women were all contractors/ temps/ hired through staffing agency (including myself) and the Non-minorities are C-suite, or in a position that receives full benefits (401k, 401kmatching, paid time off, paid holidays, etc.) I saw it on paper. It’s ridiculous. But I didn’t say anything. Who is there to tell? They will just act like that’s not true. It was very clear to me. Somebody had to call it out. It’s sad

Omg!!!!! That’s disgusting!!! I experienced it too. My CEO & I had a great relationship so I brought it to his attention. That man stuttered like crazy then gave me some BS reasoning & kept asking me for weeks if I was ok. It was sad. Only thing I kept thinking was that I needed to educate more people, hence, the creation of my KZbin channel

I totally agree with everything you said especially the last point. It is so frustrating and really needs to change. I love HR but I don’t like the unfair practices that most companies follow. Thankful for your videos and to see someone that I can relate to speak on HR topics!

Awh, Timeka, I really appreciate this video. ESPECIALLY the points you made about people of color in this field. I am beginning my journey as an HR Generalist as my first role in HR and your videos are supremely helpful and inspirational. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to share these experiences with others!

You are so fun to listen to. I appreciate your positive perspective on all of this! I'm currently working hard to transition from Executive Assistant (HR Coordinator pretty much), to the HR realm. And I'm wondering what would happen if you walked into that lunch room, and you overheard something maybe a little inappropriate, or offensive. I have wondered what the rules are myself! Everyone I've talked to says they don't call HR because they fear that what they say won't be kept private, and they don't want retaliation in the workplace. I have always made close connections with my team, and it would be super hard to part the sea every time I walked into a group environment, haha! I appreciated this whole video!

Your videos are very helpful, thank you. Regarding the apparent discrimination, especially with regards to differences in salaries with black versus white employees, I wonder if you have considered that it could be down to them not asking for more or being assertive? It´s only a suggestion because as soon as I heard you mention that I thought of when I used to be a Recruiter and had the same suspicion about discrimination between men and women, but found, annoyingly, that many female juniors, mid level managers and team leaders or managers were earning less than the men but it was because they would ask for less. This would happen mostly when they were first hired but that salary does in turn affect your increases as time goes on, especially when the increases are flat percentages. At the end of day, business is business and if you don´t HAVE TO give someone more, you don´t. In HR you can have systems that permit only small salary ranges for each level of responsbility/job role, and that would make salaries more equitable.

Happy you enjoyed it! 💜 That's a small part of it, but I've also seen where a company has a budget for that position and sticks to it regardless of the candidate expecting less. I've also seen sooo many other factors. The fact that females ask for less, has now become a small part of the reason for inequalities. I love that I now work for a company that gives what we have budgeted, which in most instances has made very happy candidates and quickly accepted job offers. If a company chooses to give someone less only because you have the ability to, but they KNOW that they have more budgeted than what that candidate expects, then it makes me question the company's ethics.

For sure this is a part of it. And take it a step further…it’s how good a salesperson you are and what kind of salary and experience you are transitioning from that allows a company to think you don’t deserve more, or that they don’t feel comfortable paying more. So many of us human beings aren’t good at asking for more. Also we are fighting our backgrounds, personalities, work history, ability to speak clearly and thoughtfully, and our looks in general. And yep, color of our skin is a part of that. It’s such a deep subject, but I feel we have been creating our own disservice to some degree.

I love this video, and yes I quit my job because of the Bias and different treatment that people of color received. Then to watch someone with little education and experience brown nose and get a $10 an hr. Pay increase and don't have a license either like wtf ! Everyday, I went in happy and left defeated. Till I just left with no job in sight. Also inspired me to let our community of color to question employers, benefit programs, and leave if your not getting a raise or promoted within 5 years it a waste of time. Yes! to everything I say gotta get 21 questions but let a representative come and say less with a hotline to call then everyone is okay. So I learned to say less, use visual like PowerPoint and always put a direct link to websites so they can do there own research too. The rejection to extra knowledge seems harsh but individual have smartphones read and research.
