Iran is not the biggest player in the region. That is Turkey and they are historic enemies and today they have a border dispute in the Caucasus. Turkey is a major arms manufacture and Russia can not supply Iran weapons so they can only trust what they have in hand. Iran is a mountainous with every valley having a history of independence that also in history being held together by force. The central government is always worried about their position to control the valleys. Further the nation need to be on the population growth cycle seen in history due to the agricultural cycle. It need this because imports will be limited in a war. Today only about a third of the population are practicing Muslims. The government initially had full support of the population and the majority ~ 80% were practicing Muslims. But the tyrannical practice of the government has had an affect. Today about a third are Christians below the surface. And the last third do not practice and religion or gave up on religion. The government internally is weaker then it ever has been in its history. The nations of the Abraham Accord all agree that Iran is their enemy. Iran has no idea what the response will be if Iran enters the war. The firing of well advertised missile and drone attack was meant to be nocked out of the sky. They learned who will support Israel and found Israel has a lot of support.
