Hezbollah is probably the strongest non-state actor in the world today, according to some analysts. But how did it get there?
Formed in resistance to Israel’s invasion of Lebanon during the 1980s, the predominantly Shia Muslim group started out as an armed force, subsequently launching as a political party in the 1990s.
In 2022, Hezbollah and its allies won 62 of the country's 128 seats in parliament.
Hezbollah, led by Shia cleric Hassan Nasrallah, runs a TV station and radio station and is seen by some as a legitimate resistance defending Lebanon.
But political opponents say it undermines the state and will drag Lebanon closer to war.
