Just think of what a beautiful and safe country Lebanon was before it was destroyed in a civil war instigated by PLO / Palestine and Syria and now Hezbollah. It was considered the Rivera of the Middle East at one time.
@HughCurranAedh3 ай бұрын
Who "instigated" the wars? 700,000 Palestinians were compelled to leave their homes: "After the 1948 War, the United Nations estimated 711,000 Palestinian Arabs, out an estimated 1.8 million dwelling in the Mandate of Palestine...were forced out of Israel and entered neighboring countries. By 1949, there were 110,000 Palestinian Arabs in Lebanon, moved into camps established by and administered by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East"[wikipedia]

@@HughCurranAedh Yes , by that time they had turned down at least 3 opportunities to have their own state , but their hate of the Jews made them incapable of living peacefully amongst them , so along with Syria , Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Jordan ( who ended up at a latter date murdering 1000's of Palestinians) attacked the Jews in the hope of total annihilation , but failed. But moving back to the destruction of Lebanon and the murder of over 200 Americans and 10's of thousands Lebanese in the brutal civil war that was the result of Syria and Palestine attacking Lebanon and destroying the only country other then Israel that had a sense of freedom.

Even though this is from Al Jazeera, the report is fairly accurate except for one major omission. When Israel "occupied" Southern Lebanon, it was with the concurrence of at least half the residents of the region who were Christian Arabs. During the 18 years of Israeli presence in Lebanon south of the Litani River, there was relative peace and quiet and the residents lived much better economically and socially than north of the river which was controlled by Hezbollah and kept in a state of ruin from the time of the civil war. Ehud Barak thought Israel could save money by pulling out its troops and stopping aid to the South Lebanon Army. But it was an awful stupid decision, since as soon as Israel pulled out, Hezbollah rolled in, murdering the entire South Lebanon Army, and starting the last 24 years of unprovoked relentless attacks on Israel. This is the true history.

This is an informative report on the origins, history, and role of Hezbollah in Lebanese society and the Middle East region. The fact that the majority of it's members represent a marginalized sect in Lebanese society is not surprising, nor is the organization's evolution in the political sphere, where it wields power. Hezbollah's religious, ideological, and military connection with and backing from Iran is now very clear, based on this journalist's report. It also makes sense that Iran is behind the military empowerment of the Houthis. The bottom line is that the region needs military de-escalation and more effective diplomatic strategies for achieving lasting peace. Continuous wars, genocide, kidnappings, detainments, rape, and starvation should never be perceived as solutions to territorial problems, including occupation--which is not only unacceptable, but also unlawful, according to international humanitarian law. Brilliant minds must come together to bring about lasting peace in the Middle East.

Start Here is one of the best news documentary programs out there. They manage to take a complicated subject and break it down into an accurate and concise mini documentary. I am a student of, and researcher on the Middle East and I often start here If I want to get up to speed on a subject. I have seen some of the comments below. And I understand. I just take the title of the episode as my guide. This program was a primer of what is Hezbollah and how is it linked to the Gaza war. There is a lot of material to cover in a short doc, and they have to get right to the point. Their job is to be impartial, and not beholden to anyone. I am certainly not an apologist for Israel especially considering the genocide in Gaza. I am also well aware of Israels bombings, assassinations and campaigns if disinformation in Beirut/Lebanon. All of which are reprehensible. Israel has made it worse for themselves, their neighbors, and the region in general by shooting first and asking questions later. Everyone knows that if they ended the occupation and made attempts at restitution, and saw the Palestinians as humans instead of 'Animals and Vermin" they would not only spend less money on defense, they also just might make their neighbors a lot less likely to lob missiles at them. I realize that I'm being pretty Idealistic here. I also realize that the Israeli government is full of narcissists, racists and extremists, making any type of real progress very unlikely anytime soon. I also see extremism and corruption in Hezbollah as well, even though I place the onus of aggression and discord in the region squarely at the feet of Israel. Information can also serve to influence, even if that is not the goal. It's easier to take criticism if someone also presents positive traits about the person or state they are criticizing. No I am not affiliated with Al Jazeera. I am a fan of this program and format. If someone disagrees with my post please make a kind comment and state what part of this Start Here episode is inaccurate. Please be specific. It will help me in my studies.

I remember from my dad during 70s that lebanon is heaven on earth, great university, clean place, peace. but suddenly it changed when Radical muslim count increases. HEZABOLLAH was born then and they destroyed peace and everything. Millions of cristians was mass murdered, converted or forced to leave.

Make up your mind do they have seats in the government or are they separate from the government? I don’t get it. if they are so problematic, then why have they managed to become even more powerful than in 2006.
@user-vo6ro2nh2s6 ай бұрын
They have seats in the government, but they are separated militarily. Meaning that we basically have two armies, one of them being the LAF (Lebanese Armed Forces) and Hezbollah. This is what people see as problematic, since they are more powerful than the country's military.

It’s refreshing to hear this honesty from Al Jazeera. There is a lot of propaganda surrounding Al Jazeera, but Al Jazeera is the most welcomed journalism group in the Middle East, and there should be respect for that. Anyways, thank you Al J for this video.

People living in south Lebanon have moved to the North since the Gaza conflict started on 7/10 Hisbollah bombing rockets into Northern Israel have made some residents to evacuate and Israel got all the resources to give them temporary shelter. But displaced South Lebanon residents cursing Hisbollah as they can’t stay longer away from their homes worried Israel retaliation to Hisbollah’s rocket attack. So you can judge yourself Hisbollah can’t cannot keep their citizens away from their homes!

i did not know Lebanese were evacuated from the border too - 80,000 Israelis' are evacuated from northern border - 6 months now -- while politicians make choices , and send soldiers to fight , it is always innocent families in the middle who suffer the most.
