No special tools required to tear down to this point.

That’s a great question. It’s no more preventable than a head gasket failing. Not guaranteed to fail nor last the life of the vehicle. Regular maintenance intervals will help, leaks are a huge contributor to this failure, so with regular service intervals you can catch a leak before it becomes a larger problem

Oil transmition change every 50,000 miles, you be good
