Glad to see it's a positive review, been looking at this game for a while now. Ever since Mechanicus I've kept track of the studio to see if they ever make a sequel. Speaking of Mechanicus, it's the same dude who made its OST working on Ixion. They also released their soundtrack for free on their KZbin channel, you can give it a listen.

I'm at the same point as you. chapter 2, having to constantly repeat with better experience, it's hard but really enjoying it!

Started the game thrice after getting to chapter 4. I can really say the game is kinda consuming. Its pretty much like playing a game and being at the office at the same time. The planning, resource management and all. All I can say in my experience so far is that it will teach you patience and compromise.

Within a month I got myself factorio, oxygen not included, dwarf fortress and now this game. But I didn't play any of those because I need to learn so much not sure why I keep buying them.. Ended up playing brotato. I hope I will get the motivation to start playing at least one of them soon

There's LOADS of optimization. In fact I would say BECAUSE of the survival aspect you have to optimize!

i've played this for about 6 hours, haven't seen most of the content of the game or understood it's mechanics. So here is my review....

No, it's not. I like FP, I really dislike this. It's 100% scripted; unbalanced; has ridiculous decision trees (literally hair-pulingly insane); and a rouge-like Tetris.

There are a lot of absolutely horrible designs in this game, and way more than simple balance adjustments are needed to make the game acceptable. Simply a bad copy of forestpunk.

I always interested in city building game. But the word Frostpunk is worrying. That game is story driven survival city building. The story driven aspect is what I dislike. Making one wrong move in certain part of the story means total failure in the next chapter of the story.

If it helps, you can restart a chapter and fix the mistakes you made. Instead of worrying about a certain save file, or starting over completely

The game encourages save scumming because of it's lack of intuitive nature and bad game design. There is one way to solve the game and "beat" the story, if you try to deviate from that , you fail. Game has zero replayability at all.

There is zero replayability. The story is all you get and there is only one way to solve it. It's a puzzle game with a sim builder veneer, and is incredibly misleading. Every playthrough will be the exact same because the devs want you to play a certain way that you CANNOT deviate from, or you fail.

It's a new game yet so I really hope they add some kinda sandbox mode in the future. Such kinda games are not fun if limited to campaign only.

i guess what this games fail where frostpunk succeeds is that those have just too many things to do, this ultimately makes the game harder to learn and to play which might scare away some players

Frostpunk was boring once you played it once the events remains unchanged so you basically knew what was coming next... it seems like this game is the same, once you discovered it no replayability is offered other than change the difficulty please correct me if im wrong

So far, it appears to be the case; despite being fucked in the frist chapter harder than forstpunk did in the entire playthrough (I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaad) the game appears to be static.

@@MrMe917 for sure the story and all looks like really immersive about this we can only agree to bad thought they didnt add some procedurally generated events... ill keep an eye on it coz it says at some point you need to find à New home so maybe next time you jump something new will happen
