Wallasea is a reclaimed wetland area. The dutch were hired to do a lot of draining of these kinds of lands in the 15th/16th century so they could be farmed by the local land owners and thats how they remained until the last few decades when there has been a drive to restore Britains eco-system and help reduce flooding further inland.

Have to say you are a very courteous driver and I have to say thank you for that , true old Knights of the road . How ever in this mad day and age some HGV drivers are not but the majority are still . I can only imagine the stress put on drivers to deliver on time on unrealistic delivery times from managers that may never turned a wheel ever or if they had not in a very long time . I drive Fire Engines but mostly on an Airfield but have to go through the same training as local Authority . Needless to say some how we are expected to reach the same standards to pass on our tests . My last course I did with in less than a mile two HGV 1's nearly wiped us out , I have to say this is not the norm . How ever one butt clenching moment was we were on a A road with a sweeping left hand bend up hill . I saw through the trees that a HGV 1 was coming the other way and slowed down , sirens and lights going by the way . There was ditches and trees on both sides , any way the HGV 1 i guess never saw us and was going shall we say a little too fast . As we reached the bend he locked up. I had my window open and all we heard was the squeal of tires and the smoke from the tires entered the cab . I had no where to go but I had slowed down a lot because I thought he had not seen us because of his speed . Anyway we passed with very little to spare , even the Instructor was rattled and said that wasn't your fault . Any way after that we crested the hill then went on a downward right hand sweep in the road to only be confronted by a HGV 1 in the middle of the road and from what I saw was looking down at some thing in his cab ....second butt clenching moment !! . How ever for the other days on my course , HGV drivers are the best . Their forward planning and even hold traffic behind them to help us on our way , you are still Knights of the road in my eyes . Much respect .

Don't get roped into some of the large alarm companies . They tend to get you to sign up to lengthy maintenance contracts. Instead, get a local alarm engineer who should be able to supply and fit an alarm system along with a high quality cctv system.

Hi Luke , I’ve been in the security industry some 36yrs now 😳🙈🤣, stay well clear of ADT mate , am led to believe their fees are extortionate, and your charged for every callout , find a local company that can install a Visonic PowerMaster system with broadband access and the app giving you full control from your mobile etc , also led to believe Varisure have a lot of hidden charges that are only disclosed once you’ve signed up 🥴, Visonic, once it’s installed the equipments yours and there’s no subscription for the app 👌🏻, have installed them since they came out some 8-10 yrs ago , bomb proof equipment 👌🏻👌🏻, Keep the vids coming bud & congrats on the house 👍🏻, Stay safe & safe trucking, TartanSparky.

My wife works a legal secretary and has done for 40 years plus. She specialises in house conveyancing and between ignorant parties other solicitors , estate agents etc it’s a nightmare especially when you are spending hours on a single phone call to an Indian call centre etc. Bottom line is you must do your due diligence and be very careful on money transfers. Good luck on your new house you’ve both worked your butts off for it.

A bit chaotic in places, but we come to expect that nowadays Luke. Good content right through, it would be nice to see some more of the roads you have to travel sometimes. best wishes for the new house, I have moved about 10 times and all have been stressful, and expensive. I always found unexpected work required on the house when moved in, hope the weather is kind to you for moving furniture etc.
@pops2728 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Luke, enjoyed the video. What you thought were trenches are actually ditches which fill up at high tide. That area is very low lying and the River Crouch and The River Roach are tidal and run out to the North Sea. Some times in bad weather and spring tides the area can flood. That's why some of the houses are built on stilts!

Wallasea island is a tidal flatland and marsh with the river crouch to the north and river roach to the south east. The Dutch drained it in the 15th century to create highly fertile farm land. Much of the wetland areas are nature reserves.

Hi Luke, another great vlog. Good to see you getting on with the job and back to your old self. Keep it up, mate! Hope the new house is sorted. You mentioned alarm, welll just from my little experience. ADT is a well recognised set up however you pay a fortune for the privilege, and monitoring is expensive, call outs are never their fault so expect a invoice. So the company I worked for gave me the pleasure of termmanating them. We ended up with Verisue Alarms. Great set up and does all the things you expect at a fraction of the cost. Check them out all the best mate..

Congratulations on the house purchase. As for home security, ensure you have light timers, they're much better than any burglar alarm. You want your house to look occupied in the early dark evenings. Burglar alarms and CCTV, only on the outside, motion sensor garden lights, especially around back and side entries. Also anti snap locks on the front & back door. The CCTV inside the home won't really do much, most burglar's cover their faces. It's better to try and prevent the break in before it happens. The anti snap locks are often suggested by your home insurer, or reduce the cost slightly. Home insurance is like £5-10 a month.

Buying a house and getting married are the most stressful events you can do.

The timber place (Baltic) is in so-called Wallasea Island (salt marsh), just south of the River Crouch and surrounded by the River Roach, in Essex. Those ditches are flooded periodically at high tide. It really would not be funny to go off the road!

Congrats on the house Luke, it is possibly the most frustrating process in the known universe. It took me nearly 8 months from offer being accepted to completion and it wasnt even a chain, primarily because my solicitors were, for want of a better phrase, a shower of twats, was a recommendation from mortgage advisor, I was going to use the solicitor which turned out to be the sellers solicitor so that was not possible due to conflict of interest but hey ho. My solicitor didn't communicate with me, the estate agent, or the sellers solicitor. They were impossible to get in touch with to find anything out, invoiced the wrong payment amount for the deposit on the house, it was a shit show. Recently found out, only a month after I completed on the house and got the keys, the solicitors was shut down by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority.

One chap said that buried in the small print after signing off on a security visit, they committed themselves to a further five years, which was buried among the pages. Again, I repeat, this is hearsay, and I have no personal experience. Interesting video. I drove nationally and internationally from 1969 to the 1980s.
