We have idiots like this at my place of work they have all these signs saying how they want your load to fastened etc with people supposed to check they did it that way, when I "check" I just tell drivers how it's done doesn't bother me because once you leave it's your responsibility not mine and if the company I work for tries to force that on me then there's no way in hell I'm accepting that.

@nathancorry1637 As the truck driver is the one LEGALLY responsible for the safety of his own truck loads, the fork-hoist driver CAN be held & thus legally cited as being in NON COMPLIANCE with loads leaving his place of business. Thus as the other person (@leexgx ) said - massive fines on his own company AND the fork hoist operator SHOULD get fired. The onus isNOT on the fork hoist driver for load safety on trucks - but on the driver (only). If someone is telling drivers they CANNOT comply with the law (or loss that client) then that client NEEDS to be blacklisted by all.

Hello. One tip I learnt was that if you are strapping down a high load, portacabins or suchlike, put half a twist in the strap. It stops it flapping as you go along. Keep on trucking buddy. ilona, trucker for 32 years.

If you do that in Australia and the scalies catch you, you'll get pinched for improperly secured load. In their understanding, a strap even half twisted does not have the same restraining capacity as a strap laid flat. It's anal and dopey, but that's their thing.

From someone that works in cargo and serves trucks often he is an absolute dafty. You tell us how you want your cargo loaded, and you tell us if you're happy with it, we don't tell you what to do with our truck and naturally you don't tell us how to do our job that's how it works. If the driver says he's not happy because he doesn't feel the load is secure, then that is the drivers call and you accomodate them - IT'S THEIR TRUCK, if something falls out or off and hits someone at 50mph on a motorway they're going to prison - not the warehouseman, they are at the end of the day a customer. That bloke is a jobsworth mate.

Doing training now to become a trucker and one thing that is pushed hard is the driver is responsible for securing the load, no one else. We also have a nice guide with values for friction and how many straps you need for cargo at x and y dimensions with z weight, quite handy. Only 44 tons phew max here in Sweden is 64 tons on most main roads and some have 74 tons, then we can also be 4.5m tall Vs 4 in EU.

I've had my ldv convoy recovery truck for 17 years , it has the 100bhp 2.5 td engine from the smiley transit , and its been fantastic ! Yes they are harsh ! But always do the job if you look after them ! A big tip though if you get a good rust free one , remove the floor carpet and make sure the windscreen rubbers don't leak ! The carpet acts like a sponge and rots them out

Somewhat weird watching you drive past The Crown in Stratton since I used to work in a company called Autoprime in Parsonage Road, just 100 yards to your right at that mini-roundabout. The company is now gone after 2 take-overs and a management buy-out it finally folded in 2001. I used to live along Ermine Street to the south in Griffiths Close which was really handy in terms of getting to work. Left Swindon in November 21 after I retired from driving fridge trailers out of Iceland's depot and now watch you dragging around the country from the comfort of our home in Northern Ireland!

Great to see your general working day on HGVs. My Late Brother in law was an HGV driver,and loved every minute of his job. Except when he was hauling stuff for the Millennium Dome. He apparently had to get into a Road that took ages to get into,and ages to get out. He said that in all his years it was only that place that stressed him out. Well! apart from the time a London Taxi driver P@##£& him off,and he got out of the cab, and smashed both of the taxis headlights. Being on a set of traffic lights at the time. I only encounter you guys, on the M5-M6, (I’m up and down them a lot) when many just put their indicator on and pull out. Not leaving much time to do anything but brake. Good Channel glad I found it. 👍

Great video, must admit I'm retired and don't miss wagon driving although the last place I worked ferrying full tanks of fresh water around on nights was probably the best driving job I had. I'd just passed state retirement age and wanted to carry on driving another couple of years but unfortunately had a stroke, luckily i recovered well but not allowed to drive HGV's for 12 months so actually retired. Entirely up to you how many straps you need, certainly not up to some plank sat on a fork lift. Love the videos Luke, hope your cold got better soon and the house hunting is going well 😃😃

I’ve loaded from both of those sites lots of times. Never had any issues with either. The lads at Mersey Wharf are sound as. As to regards of strapping the mesh. We always strap half way. 4 or 5 packs up. Then when the other 4 or five packs are on we use 4 straps over the top. Same as yourself, but throwing them opposing directions. 2 outer to near side. 2 inner straps to offside. Just helps keep it a bit more stable. Ultimately the driver is responsible for his load. No matter how many straps the forklift driver at nwt reckons you should use. You should use as many as you feel comfortable with. Different people strap different ways. Not to say any of them are wrong. If the loads gets to its destination safely and securely who can really argue. Nice civic 👌🏻

Good to see a driver aware of the weight. Many moons ago when I was a fitter for a haulage company a driver defected his lorry for poor performance and acceleration. When the foreman checked his loading doc's he had loaded 2 containers of 20 tonnes each. His gross was 57 tonnes on a 4 axle rig which should have been 36 tonne max.

I'd be naming and shaming that company.. have people boycott them or make them pay mega money to move product. I've been a forklift driver in the past and wouldn't tell a truck driver how to do their job.. likewise I wouldn't listen to them trying to tell me how to do mine unless they deemed the load unsafe. I'm now a class 2 driver and loving life on the road. Even though I drive in central London.

Forklift driver is not the truck driver - he shouldnt say anything about the truck load - its the driver whos truck it is to tell the koader qhere and how to load thenparticular load. Im a forklift driver and the driver who is actually xriving the truck tells me how they want it loaded, i dont have a say in it - theyre the ines takibg it, transporting it, and delivering it

Hope you get over your cold quickly. I got hit real hard by a nasty cold variant last month and it knocked me off my feet for a week then took another 2 weeks to finally shake it, worst cold I've had in like 10 years and was taken completely by surprise by how hard it hit me and forced me to take a week off work because I couldn't get out of bed for a week, made going to bathroom interesting, on my worst day it took me 20 minutes to get out bed and on my feet plus another 5 minutes to walk to bathroom lol. Ironically enough everything else that I usually suffer with went away, does anyone else experience this when they have a flu or cold?

@@2reeceybaby bottled water is pretty expensive so I sorted out a good size 10ltr water filter & I filter rain water. I change the two filters every 8 months at a cost of £45. I do home brew with this system too. In my area there's 50 contaminants in the tap water & it states this info on the water company's web site. Yes the water system is the easiest way too poison the public.

I know I'm getting sick when I get a scratchy throat. I always got sick after a plane flight, so I use a N95 mask when I fly. But for a long-haul driver it is usually caused by unsanitary conditions where you may eat on the road.

Id be the same on the load being strapped down aswell, as its your licence at the end of the day, ive been in a similar situation when on the bins, went o a site to pick there bins up, and the security guard hated me and wanted me to collect the bins in a certain way round, til i told him where he can shove it, and wen uttered that i'll be banned from sight, i just laughed and replied thats fine as your bins wont get emptied as im the only one in the are that can empty them as there are no trucks anywhere close to the site, they then soon backed down and said erm ok and when turned up the following week the same security officer just opened the barriers and didn't utter a single word to me

The LAW states that everyone involved in the loading is responsible. About 30 years ago (before the driver cpc) a company started a new driver on to collect a load of pickle and oiled steel sheets. He claimed that he didn't know how to use the load restraints and so the loaders at the picklers decided to use banding to strap the packs of 8x4 steel sheets to the trailer. He got about a mile and half before the steel broke free and slid off the trailer and crushed a number of parked cars. The police asked my gaffer to use his forklift to pick the steel up and reload it while the road was closed. When my gaffer got to the incident he found a load of straps and stretchers in the passenger footwell in the cab. The company hadn't even bothered to explain to the new driver how to use them and he hadn't bothered to look for them. I believe that both the loaders at the consigners and driver was prosecuted but the driver got a reduced fine because his company hadn't given him what was called sufficient training . This was a number of cases where drivers got a reduced penalty by claiming that the employer hadn't given the driver training on load restraints.

A lot of all kinds of information (mostly wrong, for most European laws). I'm a forklift operator, I'm also a truck driver. None of the trucks that I loaded came out without straps or with too few straps. If the driver argued with me, he simply got a loading paper without my signature and with the note that there are too few or no straps. When each of the trucks arrived at the scale at the exit to receive the exit papers, they were asked by the operator of the scale whether they wanted to put on straps or unload the loaded goods.

Counterbalance driver myself, I'd never tell a driver how to do their job that's ridiculous, I have had to shout at drivers before who tried to run under my forks instead of going all way round or waiting to get back into the cab, I've even refused to tip loads due to the driver kept doing that and jumping onto the trailer whilst loading/tipping

Yes there is. Generally it's driving for 9 hours but you can stretch it to 10 hours drive time twice in one 7 day period.

It's the same with renting, it took me about 6 months to find somewhere after splitting with the ex and still had to live in a sour atmosphere 😕🤦‍♂️🤣 you think you've found somewhere nice then there's about 10 other people viewing the place, or it's gone before you've even had a look in! It's a strange market these days, renting or buying.

I do have a dedicated tomtom truck nav but before I even used it a friend recommended the app. I've used the app (I'm a weekend warrior only, full time non-driving job during the week) exclusively and not used the dedi at all, it's been fine over the last year but yesterday it turned me off the A4 just before Thatcham and took me down a a non paved road that even the trees were too low, I was petrified haha. So I'm asking the question, is a dedi more comprehensive than the app, or are they the exact same thing (yes I had my weight, height etc dialled in and was absolutely on truck mode) Edit, for anyone interested it turned me off the A4 up new hill road and onto School hill road and back to the A4. I had a feeling it was wrong. But as it was a new area to me and hadn't steered me wrong before I hesitantly trusted it.
