@@andybirchenall1113 i used to do multi drop around that sort of area. The best one I had was a delivery that was on the outbound side for London traffic in Barking. Unloading hrs were allowed for 20mins from 10am till 4pm. Parking hours were allowed for 20mins from 10 am till 4pm too. The onky time I could unload (which took 5 mins) was after 4pm. A traffic warden said you aren't allowed to do this after 4pm. I said 'how do I get into a car space when one leaves', he said block the road... i can't do you for that but I can do you for parking here after 4 🙄😂🤣

I suspect that will be in the future once all vehicles inside Greater London will be electric only. An ICE tractor unit from elsewhere drops a trailer with an electric tractor unit picking it up and making the delivery.

The problem with that is that thing 'distribution'. Most hauliers will have a contract that pays 'X' amount for storage and/or distribution and that figure will encompass every delivery required, no matter how big or small, and will always be inclusive of London! I don't think the scheme is a bad idea in itself, but at least get the signs right!!!

Personally I think all truck drivers should refuse to go into London, i.e not go within the M25. There should be delivery hubs where trucks drop their loads, then let the idiots who live within the M25, come and get their stuff. Let the authorities within the M25, sort out their own transportation of goods from the hubs.

As a 4-wheeler who has never driven anything above 25 tones its never ceases to amaze me the BS truck / delivery drivers put up with in London. Ridiculous nonsensical speed limits, road narrowing, deliberate traffic jambs, poor signage, foliage overgrowth, lack of rest areas and facilities, poor road maintenance..... the list is endless. A coordinated total boycott of London is long overdue. It's worth remembering that nearly everything one touches or sees is delivered via commercial vehicle. I appreciate the effort and sacrifice drivers make to maintain all our lives in the capital.

Long retired and London used to be busy but people/drivers knew the score and were sensible. I used to deliver to supermarkets and anyone who parked around your delivery point knew to expect a delivery at a certain regular time. People would pour out of the local premises and move their cars (basically drive round the block) to allow enough time to get your truck in. I used to drive over Tower Bridge yes I'm that old lol I remember the first route restrictions coming in and we were all issued with maps. It was really annoying though as you could deliver to one major supermarket and then instead of driving directly to the next one you had to drive out to the M25 go round to the next major road in and drive back in. Probably less than 15mins if driving directly between the two but a lot longer using more time and fuel having to drive round. As others have said I often thought they should build a wall round the M25 and have access points with large freight depots where you could deliver to and smaller trucks could do the deliveries inside. We all know that wouldn't be practical but a nice idea lol I sometimes think these people who make the rules have absolutely no idea of the amount of goods that have to be delivered DAILY to supermarkets and other stores but I suppose all they are bothered about are emissions / traffic. If all traffic stopped for a week the shops would be empty.

I'm a now retired o/d, TfL are a nightmare to deal with, it's worse than sticking pins in your eyes, when I applied for a night permit they wanted to know every delivery point I would be going to and the exact route taken, then said my level of work didn't warrant a permit, I would have to give 48 hours notice before coming in restricted times, I never got my work 48 hours before delivery, I was doing timed jit. I don't go there any more but would love artics to be banned inside the north/south circular and flood the shithole with transits.

Either someone cocked up placing that sign at the wrong exit or it was done deliberately to earn money, especially with a warning sign about the zone up ahead but not telling you when it actually starts. If this went to court over an unpaid fine, I think the judge would look at the evidence and see that it is area is not clearly marked, so the fine is removed. Excellent video. I'm actually based at the refinery in Erith. When I started in 2005 all our London based trucks had the round tax disc style GLC permit. Remember back then a few of our lads getting done for going up to Tate and Lyle at Greenwich before 7 am and for using the Woolwich Ferry after 13.30 on a Saturday. Haven't heard anyone being done over the past few years, so not sure how well policed it is now. We have one tip in Brixton, and if I'm unlucky enough to get it I'm down there way before 7am to beat the stationery traffic over Blackheath, not been nicked yet. Having said that a few trucks parking overnight on industrial estates around Erith and Belvedere have woken up to parking tickets on their windscreen, despite there being no yellow lines. Certainly down to the GLC scheme that a lot of non London drivers have never heard off.

You can park overnight in a lot of places in London without risking a LLCS fine (if you can park up before the restricted hours). there's are stretch on the south circular eastbound where the turn left for the London wetlands centre and the A3 the road on the right at this junc is down as a permitted route but you cannot turn right into it by bearing to the left just past the lights then 15m turn right then turn right then left into the permitted road which is stated on the LLC Map however the sinage says it has restricted times so you cannot turn right into the road by going left right right the turn into the road but if you come westbound there is no signage and you can turn left into it towards the A3 confusing
@PCDelorian
@PCDelorian 3 ай бұрын
The problem (or rather yet another problem) is the "permitted route" has a sign on it, so plod could pull you for contravention of a road traffic sign, which could endorse your licence. Limiting HGVs from certain roads is logical and makes some sense in some circumstances (not commenting on London specifically), but it should be adequately signed, signed correctly, and thought-out.

So, there’s an “Excluded Road Network” that can be used without trouble, permits required to go off that. Even with a permit you should take the shortest available non ERN route to & from your destination. One of the restriction signs was placed on the Target Roundabout for the A312 Southbound, but Not for the north bound stretch. I checked with TFL as an acting manager & was told the sign was incorrect & unenforceable; opened up options for my drivers. Also, following official diversions excuses you from fines. (Use dashcams peeps I’ve had a couple of occasions where some comically undesirable naughty tyke has turned a subsequent arrow, a few where there are no further signs, one police closure with no diversion, & one divert that took me to a 15’bridge with a 16’2” trailer… (luckily saw the bridge before I turned toward it & was committed!!).

That part of the A312 both North and Southbound is part of the ERN. The stupidity of this part of the ERN is that there are houses lining both sides all along that stretch of that dual carriageway close to the road. The A4180 Ruislip Road that also meets the A40 at the Polish War Memorial (coming from the same point as the A312) has hardly any houses next to it. It mainly passes by fields and a golfclub, but you will get fined for using it. Total bollocks.

But it down to that part of London every thing is a mess down there. When I worked as an Road Tax enforcement officers we did our training in a pound down there locked up like a prison. 16 ft army style fencing, bullet prove front gate. Made Slough feel safe after working there. Shortly after I changed jobs to working in a shop, money was shit but job less risky although the shop was a late night petrol garage so we got late night trouble, and travelling criminals as they pass thought. Kind of like the local Travellers as they would piss on own door step and also they would get the other shit when they stole of us. What made me laugh because of the old racists staff that labelled all travellers as thief's the locals ones would come into the store with transparent tops and bags, so to prove they paid and didn't steal things. Jumpers with pockets like ID/credit card pockets on wallets. And those transparent back packs. But to myself the their never had issue, the out of town ones the was chancres, but I never got crap I think it was because I look a little like them as have Ginger, freckles and non rich accent. .
