Thats not a big load. I had like 5 bags of cement on the back of my ute today, now thats more impressive, but my rims aren't as shiny:(

@Niurzgius It's much smoother and better that 4 engines pull that load. One Volvo FH16 or new Scania R730 can pull that alone, but it's not good for handling like someone said, and it's less stressed to 4 engines than to 1.

@Badluckboys with out AMERICAN trucks you guys wouldn't even know what a semi is all a Volvo is a reversed engineered AMERICAN MADE SEMI. and if you didn't know what reverse engineering is when you take a good producat make it less better and sale it cheaper cuz other countries dont have patten laws like we do in AMERICA, i bet 10 years from now our trucks will still be running with well over million miles still running great why you ask cuz its made in AMERICA!

@TheyCallMeNewb those roadtrains you see don't climb hills to often, they start and brake after 100 miles and take corners with the radius of Moon. Moreover, this unit has over 500 tons for 4 trucks and you can't go to fast when you have trucks tighten to close. There are some major drawbacks when you move something so big.

And anybody that has driven a European truck with 500hp knows it runs like a a 300hp truck any where else. MCB diesels are the worst running things ever and wont move out of their own way.

Anyone saying you could pull that with one truck, if the truck is powerful enough, is probably correct, but try stopping it heh. Also the argument European vs american/Australian trucks is a bit pointless. While the american/australian style trucks for sure have their advantages over a cab over, just try taking one through the narrow streets of paris or any other old European city, it would be interesting for sure.
@czasamitrudno
@czasamitrudno 13 жыл бұрын
@xmodrock Well 1157 tons is al lot. But it is not all about horsepower. A special semiautomatic transmission with its own strong cooling system in the back of the drivers cabin is important too. A "normal" transmission would blow up quickly. By the way, there are "normal" Trucks with 700hp-Engines in the market, just like Scania R730... Just copy and paste this one into the search window: "Schwertransport Flechum-Meppen vom 25. Januar 2009"

It may seem that way, but, the main reason this works is the trucks can only pull so much, so when an operator is told to go wide open or maintain a rpm the minute difference is taken up by the truck ahead or behind, and it gradually flows down the line till they are all equal. Like fuel in joined fuel tanks, the one with more pressure will gradually push the fuel in the tank with the least back pressure, until, they are equal. Good communication and good operators make this possible. Get it?

@tunespt yeah? and were their generators 240 tons? you need to come out to australia (where this is filmed) and get a feel for the distances mate. brisbane to mountt isa (the route this convoy took) is about 2300 klms (1500 miles) and that is the same as driving all the way across europe. so whatever little toys you used your pretty pink hyundai to pull around, i don't think you'd make it from barcelona to moscow - thats the distance these convoys drive every day.

@Niurzgius So it's not just power, it's a matter of traction and strength. Technically yes, you could give a truck enough power to pull all that weight but at the same time you would have to load it up with so much counter-weight in order to gain traction that you would defeat the purpose of all that power. Also, the frames of the trucks can only handle so much and they can't be stiffened due to the power they already have. Hence why they use multiple trucks.

Great vid! On the crane part, Liebherr have a LTM 11200 9-1. It can lift 1200 tonnes at a radius of 2.5mts. Demag have a AC1000 out soon, 1000tonnes at 3mt radius. They will never lift this weight, maybe 200-250 tonnes max! It's what they offer on hight and reach! Couple of ton's to hight's of 100mts plus! Crawler cranes go up to 3200tonnes on the Demag cc8800 twin! Plus Mammoet make a PTC that can lift 1600 tonnes at 20mt radius on a 80mt boom! Hope this helps!!!

I am always puzzled as to why anyone would post a message like this. It indicates a very insecure feeling about yourself. This is a great event, but is only appreciated in the context. There is no place in the world like Australia. No place in the world has such awesome road trains. Accept it. It's not worth arguing about. In fact it demeans you to argue about it.

@cole909cole You're from the U.S., and you've never noticed how all the major freeways, and interstates are made of concrete? Or at least they are in more populated areas. They really suck though, cause they put grooves in the concrete to channel the water away. The grooves make terrible noise, and they're always a lot bumpier than asphalt. Never smooth.

@muddyboots111 well for one i dont know of any road made of concrete and i was just pointing out that it looked goofy with 4 trucks and with all those tires under the trailer dont you think theyd be smart and put breaks on them so that they dont need 4 trucks it makes sense to me and no need to throw a hissy fit bro

@chicane2k In Europe we run special heavy haul trucks with different clutches,transmissions and axels for such loads,they pull 300t without a problem. Besides 300 tons are actually not extremly heavy when you talk about heavy loads. Oh...you really think that US and AUS are the only countrys that goto move mining equipment and other heavy and oversized loads dont you ?
@chicane2k
@chicane2k 14 жыл бұрын
@myaghi86 no mercedes will pull 300 tons. and frankly, australia and the US have the best haulage capabilities in the world (australia hauls massive mining equipment mostly - that's where the generator in this video is going) because Australia and the US are so big. and we have deserted highways that can handle HUGE convoys.
@lordtaw

Its called a ballast box or weight box. Its a box or purpose made weight that attaches to the 5th wheel to load the axles down. When you tow with a draw bar there is no weight on the drive wheels. So in order to maintain traction on the drive wheels you need to load them with weights. Sand, concrete blocks and steel weights are used.

@Lawrence5987 the roadtrains you see pulling lots of trailers only equal to around 120ton because of weight restrictions i know because my dad drives them and they need 4 trucks the front one and the back one are to slow it down when goin through hills and the middles ones are for power

I don't understand why there are three rigs hauling this generator, when I've seen the road trains' you have over there with just one rig hauling many trailers, which I would suspect, could weigh in excess of the 500 ton load that these three rigs are hauling!?
