Several years ago I was in a coach convoy of RAF personnel travelling into London for a Battle of Britain parade outside Buckingham Palace. We started from RAF Halton, where we had been rehearsing, we called at RAF Northolt to join up with Queens Flight and RAF Bands. From Northolt we were escorted by SEG and travelled unhindered by give way signs and traffic lights as SEG did their thing stopping at junctions and roundabouts to hold the traffic until we'd passed through. The whole experience made a memorable day even more memorable.

I’ve had the privilege of being escorted by police motorcycle escorts, both as a soldier en route through Liverpool to the ferries at the start of the Northern Ireland ‘war’, then later as a firefighter through heavy traffic to an emergency. I was thoroughly impressed with them on both occasions.

Interesting you call the Northern Island conflict as a war yet your government did not. Yes, they applied the SAS to try and destroy the IRA and UDA however it never worked until both sides started to realise ‘hate’ never stops and if they want the conflict to stop they need to stop the hate and so far its worked, no hate, no conflict. Im sure there are some died hard haters on both sides but they were out voted.

Yep! These dangerous speeds and disruption of traffic have no place when there is no emergency. That would be bad enough for police to accidentally hit and kill an innocent pedestrian if the outriders were responding to a life and death situation; but to submit the public to lethal risks so that a so-called "princess" is on time to open a library or whatever she was doing that day is unconscionable.

I think these "vips" would be much more safer if they just dressed like hobos and caught a public bus. Much lower profile.

My understanding is the motorcycle officers carry the Glock 17. The officers in the vehicles carry the Heckler & Koch MP5 and the Heckler & Koch G36.

Just watched a few other SEG vids and you can see many of the bikers have a very visible pistol holstered on their waist. Can't really see on this vid though, but in general it looks like many SEG bikers are armed, if not all.

Great video, but not sure the R80's were as big a hit as you say though, from what I know of them they were pig slow, and handled like shopping trolleys :-)

Then you have never seen these lads ride the old R80 then, I owned have several of them and they handled Ok but following a class one rider I was surprised at how much quicker his identical bike was, and he was carrying loads of equipment

@@russthebiker Most police R80 were converted to R100, that made them a fair bit quicker.

@@georgebarnes8163 That is total rubbish. Why would any Force buy an R80, then convert them into an R100 ? Think about it. Such a conversion would cost far more than buying an R100RT in the first place. UK police forces bought very few R100's. West Mercia bought a few & Leicestershire, but they were few & far between. The Met. decided early on that the R80 did all they needed in town traffic, until they in turn were replaced with the K75's.

The R80's were a sweet handling police solo, by the standards of the day, & I never detected this poor handling that you allege existed.The later mono-suspension models were even nicer.
@georgebarnes8163
@georgebarnes8163 2 жыл бұрын
@@martynhillier6500 Most did and I did the conversions myself as the R80 was so slow mainly down to excessive weight, the useless brakes were also junked and replaced with superior units initially Italian stuff and later British brakes, Thankfully the land barges were retired quickly and replaced by real motorcycles. The conversions were cheap and easy given such a basic engine design. Biggest problem I had with the R80/100 was the oil consumption and poor starting if left on the sidestand.
