Thank you for the tip on the fuse location. It all makes sense. The water leaked into the motor causing the bearings to begin to fail. The motor got harder to turn. The motor drew more current to run. The increased current failed the resistor. (The resistor is inserted in the path to the motor windings so as to provide the different speeds). Finally the current increased to the point that it exceeded the fuse rating and the fuse blew. My advice would be if you only have high speed on the blower, you have a failed resistor. Replace the resistor and the motor at the same time. If you don't, you will eventually be under the dash a second time. I admire your determination!

You know what I love about this video - you actually *show* all the pain in the ass challenges involved in a simple replacement i.e. slicing out the motor with a knife. Instead of other who use a jump cut edit to make themselves look better. "her her, look how easy that was" ppfft liars. Respect man.

That was a very good job and nice filming. The fuse being burnt or blown makes sense as when the bearing finally locked up, the system did some little arc welding (the smell in the motor ) and finally blew the fuse, saving the wiring harness. Identifying it as #4 in the panel is a big help. Viewers, if you just replace the fuse and the blower works but blows it again.... Don't just keep replacing the fuse if it blows again. You'll eventually overheat the wires and have a bigger problem.

Thanks for the tutorial. I replaced my butyl patch on my '07, I was getting more rain inside my car than outside. Now I'm replacing the blower motor and resistor today, I have the cabin air filter on order and I'll replace that when I get it. Thanks again for the videos. Makes this easier and a lot less expensive.

L2theW Just checked all the fuses and they are good. She said driving home warmer temperature, it worked. Cold this morning it did not work. Where is the relay for this blower? Is it the large relay in passenger floor area left foot kick plate on transmission hump? I looked this up and they all said A/C relay but fuse cover said HVAC. Going to test this but sounds like a cold hot issue.

2-1/2 years later you are still saving us money. 2006 HHR blower just died one night. No squeak, no noise, just quit. Watched your video. Checked resistor and Fuse (both) and they were all good. I accessed the wiring harness from lowering the glovebox door and the electricity was flowing. Only thing left was the blower. Went to Advance Auto, in stock for $92. Went online and found a coupon for 20% off. $78 out the door. 40 minutes later I have full A/C. Used a small paring knife to do the job. Water leak was obvious and will do that next. $520 at the dealer. Saved a couple of paychecks. Thank you is not enough to say to you, sir.

I can't begin to thank you enough for the mention of the B3 fuse. Like you , I replaced the resistor and 3 days later nothing. I was watching your video on how to replace the blower motor when I saw that part. Had I NOT seen it, I would have invested in the new motor, gone through all the grief of replacing it , & still had nothing. I would have never looked for that fuse and have had no idea about looking for it. I can't imagine what I would have had to go through for a fix. Instead of using a knife to cut out the old motor, take a hacksaw blade, tape up half of it to hold onto, make an initial cut with a knife, and then use the hacksaw blade to finish it. Goes real fast, and easy. And if your prone to cutting yourself, well..... make sure to position the blade so the cutting stroke is on the pull, not push. Easy Peasy!

My issue is if you turn on the air and it doesn't matter what setting nothing happens and the previous owner has changed the blower but the blower doesn't kick on or anything.. I'm going to check for power in the wires to the blower but I'm little lost between of its the switches or blower or something else.. Also has anyone else have issue when you turn the car off and the motor still runs for 3 or 4 secs after the car is turned off and out the ignition?

First the blower only worked on high, then not at all, then the passenger side carpet was soaked. It ended up the cover on the access hole on the compartment side had come completely unsealed over time. The water went right to the motor and resistor, then eventually the floor. I have to replace everything, and yes, that screw in the back of the motor mount is a real pain!

I went with the Carquest unit that has the flange made on. ($90 @ Advance Auto Parts) I pulled the seat and DANG that made it sooo much easier. Instead of knife cutting around I used it to make a hole and used a hacksaw blade with the side handle and it took about two minutes from punching the hole until the old one was laying on my chest. I had my son standing right there handing me parts and tools. (That was a life saver) From pulling the seat until I bolted it back down was 25 minutes at the most. Local Chevy dealer quoted me $567 to do it. Saying the book calls for 3 hours labor. IF and I mean IF I ever swap one out again That will be the way to go. Thanks for the video and replying. It made the job soo much easier.

Hope someone sees this. My HHR the fan wont turn off. Every single setting from low to high it just blows high. I have replaced the resistor and the hvac relay. Could it be the actual climate control switch knob its self? Or what else?
@L2theWcarscoffeelife
@L2theWcarscoffeelife 3 жыл бұрын
Wow that is a mess. My guess would be the control panel itself. I have heard from a lot of owners if it going bad. Only other possible scenario I can think of is a relay is stuck open but generally it shouldn't bypass the resistor. It doea seem like the control panel failed if it wont adjust anything pull it out and see if when you unplug it the fan stops. As power always runs through there its not a definite it could help show there if there is a problem elsewhere if it works when its unplugged. I have a video on how to remove it as well its not hard at all. Check out my how to playlist

I bought my 2006 HHR in 2008.Since then I've had to fix or replace so many things on this car I have lost count. In Dec. 2015 my wife came home with the HHR and called me on our land line while she sat in the car in our driveway. The door handle had snapped off in her hand. I went out to open the door for her. I gave her the Honda to drive to work the next day while I drove the HHR until I fixed the handle 2 weeks later. During that time the blower was only working on off or full blast. Your video showed me it was probably the resistor card. I ordered the part and just 2 days before the part came in the blower stopped altogether. It was running fine just the day before (albeit only on high) so it never occurred to me that it was the fan cage itself. I had that console apart several times checking things out (the fuses, the switch etc) and nothing worked. I drove that car for over a year with not heat or A/C. I saw your video on the fan just this summer. I ordered the part but because of vacation and the weather (I have to work on it outside) or other chores I wasn't able to work on it until today. It took me about 2 1/2 hours but I now have working A/C and heat in this HHR. Thank you.

I should have went with an OEM blower motor like you did. I took a chance and bought one on Amazon and when I went to put the cover on it the back of the new blower motor popped off. It obviously wasn't crimped on correctly from the factory. I tried to put it back together but I don't trust it. I have a replacement coming tomorrow but I'm not hopeful. As someone who sells car parts for a living I can tell you the aftermarket blower motors are usually crap. I would definitely spend the extra $ and go OEM. Now my car is all torn apart and I can't fix it because of junk quality parts. Plus this listing had no reviews. If this one is the same way I'm going to get a refund and buy an AC Delco from work....

SO.... This IS the way to do it. I watched the entire video and the multi-tool knife is the way to go. I tried some heavy duty x-acto knives and they're just not heavy enough. I found the fuse issue as well and thank you for he heads up on that. I also ended up replacing the Resistor as well. BUT now it works great. I found my blower at NAPA and their unit had the connector on a wire instead of hard in the casing. The casing also had the bracket built in so no moving of parts needed. Motor $98 and Resistor about $45 in the Dallas area. Thank you again for the excellent information!

Well I did a good job thank to your video in replacing my blower motor. The resistor threw me off but glad to know it’s an easy replace if come down to it. But I’m upset on my end because I still have to turn the a/c on high just to use it and it clicks when I turn on the car. Friends said it could be the “blend door motor/actuator

L2theW it only works when I turn it on high but when I start the car up it does a clicking/tapping sound.

Thanks for the video, it was really helpful! I kind of wished that you would have left the camera rolling the whole time you're cutting it out so we could preview exactly how much of a hassle it is and how long it took you to do it! I'm taking a break right now, I'm halfway through cutting the back side saving the front side for last because it will be easiest. I hope!

I cut, then took a break and then cut. Probably took me accumulatively 5-7 minutes to complete it. Reinstallation was pretty tricky...I put a bead of silicone to prevent airflow loss from leaks...then reaaplied it thicker to help sorta hold it up while starting the first screw. In hindsight I probably should have threaded the screws in first so I could have hand threaded them. I used a long pry bar to hold it in place. I also pulled that plastic underhood cover and found where the leak you mentioned would be. The glue had failed right where it met the windshield. I blew it out with air, dried it with paper towel, and put a generous amount of 100% silicone all around and made extra efforts to get it in possible leak zones

@@L2theWcarscoffeelife BTW I understand totally about why you shortened the video. Maybe to appease both person types, when the cutting got monotonous insert subtitles that say "jump to 7:30 to skip this boring part or keep watching to see how long it takes in real time" Just an idea...don't shoot please!

Dude! You rock! It cut out nice and easy went back in just as easy. I used my Gerber too! Thanks for the video. My friend now has air in his car! Reno in no place for an oven! Thanks again! I duct taped the seal under the plastic shield under the hood as well, the plastic had warped up to let water in... The motor was burned up, water damage...I also used silicone caulking to seal motor back it, as well as the retaining circle.

It could be a design change that happens when they find faults with the design or they gave you the wrong one. Just as longbas it fits and seals the hole it should be good.
