This was the most amazing race I have seen in a long time, and better yet it makes NO SENSE. Punahou places 1&2 in the 400m. McKensie takes 4th in the 200m, 2 other 400m runners place 3rd and one barely misses the cut for the final. I do not even know where the 4th runner comes from.. This is not a recipe for a state championship and a 3:58. I could not believe the outcome of this race. I would like to know McKencies split because it had to be at least :58. Her running form was absolutely perfect, the best I have ever seen in a girl 400m. The most impressive thing I saw the whole championships, plus it was their second championship in 2 years. Thanks for the thrill Mililani, A Big Island Coach and a fan.

Thank you Tim! Honestly, I really don't know how we did it either. Punahou has always set the standard for track and field and we were honored that we were able to compete with them and the state's best! On paper, yes it may not make sense. But what I can also tell you is that when you put 4 girls together that creates an amazing bond of friendship and willingness to lay it out on the line for each other, anything is possible! I am privileged to serve as their coach and was glad that I was able to be a small part of their accomplishments! At the end of the race, we didn't know what the final result was, but we felt as if we had won because of their will to compete and their refusal to give up!

I don't think anyone knew, as demonstrated by the final times. This is what track is about, it is a team sport and I have seen time and time again where athletes are able to run 1or2 seconds under their PR in the 4x400. We did the same thing on Friday. We had 3 of our 4x400 injured which killed us, but because we qualified we put some 200m guys into it, and a hurdler and they ran 53,53,53,52. Nothing amazing but they just missed qualifying, and were 2nd in their heat and it was all heart just like your girls. I learned from this. I am going to form my 4x400 early and keep them together the whole season and get them to see they are a team early on. I will also show them your video of the overview. Good luck next year.

Congratulations on your success as well! Its unfortunate about your injured athletes, but it gave an opportunity for others to step up and show what they could do! Best of luck next season! Glad that some of our success can inspire others!
