Kenworth W900 glider is the only truck to have. But if you must then go with either the Western Star glider or a Kenworth T800 glider.

Sergei-with a cab over you are sitting on top of the front axle. Drivers hated them for the ride. Drum brakes are self actualizing. The wedging of the brake shoes helps hold the vehicle from rolling when stopped on a hill. The L88 70's Corvette with auto transmission was famous for creeping into intersections with the brakes applied. They had all disc brakes. A combination of drum and disc works better to keep the vehicle from moving when stopped on a hill.

I forgot to say in the video what these two Western Star trucks cost. 4900SF is Cnd$209,267 or US$154,857. 4900SB is Cnd$209,033 or US$154,684. Taxes are extra. Looking at the weight versus price, 1 pound of the Western Star 4900SF is selling for Cnd$8.59 or US$6.36 ;)

That peterbilt pulling tank sure got your attention. How your truck looks is important to customer and can result in their requesting YOU for their next shipment. Kenworth or Peterbilt is the way to go. Labor rate may be higher but truck will go in shop less often, they are just quality well built trucks designed to give you many years of reliable service. Best looking trucks on the road. Also you will have highest resale value. Look at these 2 makes very closely. Specs are important and I'm sure you can have most if not all your specs met by these 2 makes. You want a truck you will be happy with, that meets your needs, looks good, is comfortable to drive and live in, is well built and reliable, and has excellent resale value. Kenworth or Peterbilt are the only way to go IMO. No in am not a salesman, just a truck enthusiast .

Uncle Sergei, The T800 will serve you well. Its my FAVORITE truck, and being from Alberta; I see TONS of them around doing Heavy Haul, Flat Deck, logging, Oilfield, Tanker even Reefer. Its really is the do all truck, along with being one of the toughest in the business. You can also order it with a bunch of Aero options, similar to the W900 Aerocab. I love the idea of a Glider also, but people are starting to dump them here in Alberta, due to the new Carbon Tax; and rumors of Emissions Testing/Banning Deleted & Glider trucks.

Good Morning Sergei...just my two cents on your truck. With the exception of a glider, all new trucks spec'd similar, will be within a couple thousand on price. As an owner operator, resale value is huge. If you're looking at TruckPaper, notice what Pete, KW, and the others are selling for used right now. It's a huge difference. I sold my 2004 heavy spec'd Vision at the end of the summer, and have a 17 389 currently. It's my third truck, 1st Pete as the last two were Mack. I wanted great resale on trade in. I run 105,000 lbs on 5 axles. This new truck was ordered to my specs, and has been great so far. Heavy spec'd with a little class. Good luck with the truck search. Stay safe.

The reason the t800 is called the taxi of the oilfield is because it's the only platform that works in hh our fleet came with isx15 but had a lot of issues with the transmission so if you go that route get extra warranty also on the argosy you can put two air breathers in the back check out the new 2017 argosy glider kit from premier freightliner of st Catherine videos with the 14l series 60 Detroit

You're learning... good to see that you're learning. One suggestion - stay AWAY from Cummins engines. 35-40 years ago, Cummins was a good engine. Today, Cummins engines are junk! Expect continued problems with Cummins. However, you are certainly entitled to make your own decisions. Good luck.

i dont think you will have trouble with glider, you can probably sell that glider even higher price once the law or reg is passed, right now canada has federal gov. safety, any engine with deleted emission will fail except if that engine has no emission crap on it .. so i think this is the best time to get glider before the law or reg is passed

just wondering how the KW W900 and Pete 379 ain't on the list, curious what their score would be.... but also.... being in Canada isn't TriDrives a big thing there for hauling heavy loads? and are you considering having your tag/pusher axle be behind your drives instead of in front of them for a shorter wheelbase with it lifted?

First time posting, long time viewer. Please, study the option of a "glider", you can build a great heavy hauler. Get a 579 Pete even the KW, 20K front , 46 rears. Rule out Detroit maybe, go with C.A.T. or Cummings. Last of all which should first to consider, driver comfort, first place is Pete or KW. Western Star very short leg room .

Volvo VNX 630 with 16 litre with 2 creeper gear I shift 600 hp 2050 foot lbs of torque.rated from factory for std. 220,000 lb gross weight is a hell of a truck. a little heavy but hell on stout ! No outside air intake and a steel cab. you already know of the quality of the drive train. As Mack shares the same base engine. I see you only gave it a 3 but worth a look. ps. up to 20k front axle. pulls a 160,000 michigan 11 axle asphalt hauler just fine. The pete or ken are sharper looking.

I wish I had more customers like you when I was manager of a Mack truck dealership. Very few knew what they needed. There are a few things I would suggest a little more research may be needed. Number 1, you mentioned the hydraulic fluid for the Wet line as part of the fuel tank. The size of you wet tank you need is very small and I would assume if part of the fuel tank the capacity would be much more then you need and more expensive. Number 2, if you go Glider Kit and a non DEF engine you will not be able to haul loads into California ( I never heard you mention that about your concerns on Gliders ). Number 3 if you go cab over with them being so rare and not made in the North America you may have more difficulty getting parts and may put your truck out of service longer. Finally the DEF systems. That is the issue that can be the biggest service problem or make the truck run badly. So it is not just the engine you are buying but the engine/DEF system. As far as I am aware if you buy a Cummins from any manufacture you get a Cummins and a Cummins DEF system. They come as a set matched set, developed together by Cummins. I would assume on any Detroit product it would also be a matched set tuned by the engine manufacture for the best performance. Horsepower and torque are necessary but also research more at how the total system works together. I am sure you have some Subscribers out there that have a high horsepower Cummins who have thousands of miles using the Cummins DEF system that would be happy to share any issues they may have. The same for Detroit. From what you have said the DEF system on your Mack has been your greatest irritation and why you are considering a glider kit.

Sergei, counting how each truck meets your six "needs" are you considering each need to be equal? Typically when we use a matrix for decision making, each variable is weighted. For example, Is a light cab more important that a big radiator or external air intake? You get it. All the best being stuck down there during C-mas.

Aside from the coolness of a Peterbilt, they are better build, service from dealer is top notch, and on the back side. If you ever want to sell it they hold there value. U will get the most return for tour money

Sergei, there is a big difference between "Wants [are nice]" and "Needs [are most important, perhaps even critical] " - I'm sure you are well aware of this but you should perhaps your 8 rank criteria as I don't think that they have the same value in reality. Nevertheless it is a useful process. Further issues I would suggest might be - potential trade in value when you come to change again in the long term future (you have not been specific but it seems to me you are likely to have to swallow a bitter pill when it comes to disposing of your Mack) - warranty cover (eg what is covered for how long and is this extendable to say 5 years or a lot of milage. Would you always have to have service work carried out by the manufactuers dealers or could it be done by independants using manufacturers materials?) Lastly how it appears is obviously important to you, but, is this a shape issue or perhaps a colour / graphics issue to make it stand out? To me, it is not high ranking hardly at all, compared to issues to do with eg safety / comfort or operating efficiency. What trucks are bigger H Haul operators buying and using for their business especially those that have been operating for 10 years or more? - there must be good reasons for their choices not least of all would be experience.

You will have 0 issues with a "classic truck" and getting your weights right up front. Been doing it 16 years with no problem with a W9 and 379. I have a 80" slider and can go from as far back as the last drive to 6" behind the pusher. Plenty of room to adjust.

but if you say get a 20k front axle on a truck that has all your other options except the SF front axle instead of a SB front axle, then wouldn't it be worth looking into adding the flip box if it has that much larger of a fifth wheel slider for weight distribution? it sounds like it would overcome that goal especially if what was said on here was true and having a SB front axle was harder on the tires..

for got to mention the more the set back the more the road bumps transfer up to u , not bad if u never go over 55 or stay most time off the interstates , one resion for the long hoods and long wheel bases , also long wb u drive the load , shorter the wb the more the load likes to steer u same with a long wb and the pusher is down dosan't plow as much going around a corner , think of re sale also , u will loose more with a glider and some them other trucks , yes a epa truck will give u more problems , pros and cones to everything , and many things to think about what is right for u , extending u trailer neck may be cheeper and get a not so custom truck with the set back and a better ride , i would keep the mack before i would get some the other trucks , but thats just me , i like them mp engines and that mp10 is a monster , to bad mack dosant offer that titan with a sleeper , iv drove one , is like climing up mount everest getting in the cab , great view an tons of power

BertNL a "glider" is a brand new truck that is ordered without engine or drive train or just without an engine. You then spec an old technology newly rebuilt motor without all the extra smog crap. For instance Caterpillar got out of the on highway engine market and you can no longer buy a Cat powered new truck. But you can get a glider and install an Older new or newly rebuilt Cat. The downside is currently it is illegal to take a glider powered new truck into California and other states may ban them in the future as well. But cost wise I think an owner operator is crazy to invest in the newer engines with the DEF systems and particulate filters. Those systems are death to the engine in a truck and you risk bankruptcy with such a set up.

I'm getting up in age and have driven cab overs..Trust me, Argosy is not what you want for the next 5 years or more climbing up and down. Also, let's talk resale...you won't get that with Freightliners or Volvo. Top resale trucks are Kenworth and Peterbilt. Some trucks have no bunk heaters, did you price that in? Di Bozsha.

Extra 40 horsepower would get you up to speed quicker saving on fuel, but how many miles would you have to drive to make up $8,000?
@24nathan48
@24nathan48 2 жыл бұрын
HP has nothing to do with getting up to speed, torque gets you off the line and moving, the only time the extra HP comes into play is higher highway speeds, you look at the dyno graphs on the engines and they all make peak HP at the top end of the rpm range, where peak torque is lower in the rpm range where you need it.

Sure there is 1300 pounds difference. But you are talking about a truck really designed for heavy haul versus one that isn't. I would say the Mack can heavy haul for sure but on a minimal scale . The Western Star is built for true heavy haul and will be able to do anything you ask it too. I'm not dissing the Mack by any means but it isn't even in the same league as the Western Star for heavy hauling.
