Thanks Andy. I’ve never been around this process. When I was on the farm we picked ear corn and stored it in a crib. To feed we ran the ears through a mixer mill. One of my daily chores. We only milked 125 cows back in the 70s. Once again very informative. Best channel on the internet. I am fascinated by your operation and seeing how it’s done on a large scale and to see how things have changed.

Hello Andy, Interesting to see you mill the corn before putting it in the silo. Learning from your videos, thanks, Darren. When I used to work on a farm, here in England, we put barley and wheat in silos for animal feed. This was milled when we took it out to use.
@FarmingFixingFabricating6 жыл бұрын
It has to be ground in the way into an open air silo when the crop had moisture in it. In our air tight silo it goes in while and we grind it on the way out.

Great video andy thanks for sharing. Interesting to see that you mill the corn b4 it goes into the silo. A few guys around here do high moisture corn but they're using snapper heads on self propelled chopper and putting it up as earlege. Always interesting to see how things are done in different areas.

When I worked for my Uncle and his son-in-law, they put up high moisture ear corn and they used their Fox chopper and blew it up in the silo. They put a finer screen in it and put a chute above the knives and with an elevator unloaded the corn into it. It was a slow process but it worked!
@FarmingFixingFabricating6 жыл бұрын
Rodney Erdmann we did that years ago with a new holland 892 pull type chopper.

Neat to watch. I was wondering if you are doing high moisture shell corn because of using haylage in the mix vs. making earlage with the chopper? Very informative video

Just wondering you said you were down 16 doors how many doors does this silo have? I would not want to climb up that silo and not have someone conscious keeping an eye on me. Safety on the farm takes staying alert for yourself and others it bugs me when I am in a dangerous position and no one is paying any attention.
@FarmingFixingFabricating6 жыл бұрын
Frank Deegan I think there is about 35 maybe.The bottom third of the silo there is door in every other spot.The silo is 24 feet in diameter and it is 85 feet tall.
