I took off with Modern quilting around 2010 and tried crocheting but failed! LOL Did some amigurumi later and loved it when my kids were toddlers. Now I crochet all the time and LOVE it! Glad to have found you. Good luck with the shop. I've been teaching myself to do punch needle and rug hooking. I started making my own designs because no one was offering the aesthetic I like. I've done so many now that I plan on opening an Esty shop to provide kits. Am extremely leery about offering digital designs due to theft as well. My daughter has had 2 very successful shops and the theft is rampant. Am following the journeys of several crochet people as they're aren't many punch needle folks.

That making a blanket together following the same pattern but with vastly different tension happened with me and my grandma when I was a kid. We knitted a bunch of rectangles and sewed them together into a much bigger rectangle. So the blanket was kind of ripple-y. At the end she crocheted around the outside edges and I loved that the outer part was a lot like lasagna noodle edges. Extra ripples and squiggles. Fond memories. ❤

YAY, another new crochet channel! You now have another new subscriber. Be warned, though...I collect free patterns and tutorial videos like they were pokemon. So, don't be surprised if you do any tutorials and they end up on one of my many crochet related playlists. (hint: my "crochet - chickens" playlist gets the most views, so if you want more subscribers, make a chicken tutorial of some sort) My father taught me how to crochet, when I was a kid, and I have been crocheting for almost 50 years. I am not really into amigurumi, but I love making afghans, clothing, bags/purses, home décor items, jewelry, and realistic looking plants and flowers. I also do beadwork (on and off loom), embroidery, counted cross-stitch, macrame, sewing, and anything else that will keep my hands busy. I recently acquired a flatbed knitting machine, and still trying to wrap my head around working with that. And when I run out of yarn, thread, beads, fabric, etc., I make websites and software, for little or no reason, other than to give myself something to do. (writing code is a lot like writing a crochet pattern, solving a jigsaw puzzle, and fixing your car, all at the same time.)

I'd love to know more about why you don't recommend gifting family crochet items. I can think of a few reasons but I'm curious about your experience. I also am new at crochet (under a year) and have so many gifts queue up this year for xmas. I am unattached to what happens to these items once they leave me, so maybe that will help. I try to always have my expectations in check lol

Might be because some people don't appreciate the time and effort. I've seen that commented in some of the crochet groups I'm in on Facebook. People have expressed being upset that they spent a long time on something and the person's reaction. They became very disheartened and struggled with continuing crochet because they felt their efforts were wasted. IMHO, it might be a feel out the people kind of deal. I went to a Christmas party last year and we had a white elephant. I couldn't afford to buy anything for it and was panicking a bit. So I made a really cute washcloth set. I was fortunate enough that my best friend happened to be the recipient of it. She was thrilled and had actually hoped she'd be the one to get it. So for this friend, I know that if I made her gifts, she'd love them! I have other family/friends that wouldn't have put the same excitement into it. My other best friend, her mother was a lifelong crocheter. (She actually gave me some of her mom's stuff after she passed.) She informed me that her and her brother both had blankets that their mother made for them packed away in the closet. They never used them. I was instantly sad for her mom to have put all that time and love into those blankets just for her two children to shove them into closets and never use them. In my friend's eyes, she's protecting the blanket from her animals and damage. I tried to get her to see it from her mom's side (Would you want something you put all that time, hard work and love into just shoved in a closet and never used?). Last time I checked in with her, it's still in the closet. I, too, would be curious about his reasons though. I'm sure there are others.
