First time viewer here... I'm not sure if you have ADHD, but as someone who does have it... this video fills my soul. The mid project burnout fear, the chaos, etc. It's me!! I just started crocheting 11 months ago and I already feel like I need to organize my yarn stash! I have a fun pegboard to put a lot of of my pretty yarn cakes on, but it doesn't hold everything! Time to get to organizing!

Hi! I recently reorganized my stash too and I learned the best hack ever for managing the ends of yarn that get all tangled. Use hair clips or Bobby pins to clip the end of the yarn to the rest of the ball. Then it stays perfectly wound up even when you have to move them around hunting for something!
@kyloh87065 ай бұрын
that’s actually such a good idea, i might have to go and get a bunch of bobby pins just for this lol i have very short hair so i own not a single bobby pin xD

Hi, my beautiful friend. I’m putting this comment here to remind you in a year of what you said. “ should take all the little bits & put them in a ziploc bag and note what type of yarn they are. But, I’ll get it all organized and go through each tote individually and do that.” 😂😅😢🎉 I’ve done that TWICE in the past 20 years and I never thought of organizing once my 2k totes were filled and stacked away. 😊 I will say you are an amazing, crafty, energetic girl & I pray you do come back to them! I also think the hanks should go in their own bin, like you said, because even if you’re just wanting to watch tv, you could be also winding up some balls. (Theoretically:) it was fun watching you do this! I love all your videos. Do you think you’ll ever do a video on that round loom? I have all the Martha Stewart looms and was hoping to use the ‘random’ skeins to make hats. ❤

Last August my family left me home alone for several days (husband took the kids camping) and I decided to organize my yarn. I emptied it all on the table, caked and weighed any open skeins, and cataloged it all on ravelry and a handwritten list that I placed in with the yarn itself. That took me basically all week after work, and in the end I filled one of those same black totes with the blue lid. What you accomplished was a huge undertaking. It really does help to know exactly what you have on hand when planning. You've made me realize I have not done a good job at maintenance and I should probably spend some time updating by lists and repacking my bin! I live fairly local to you and am equally impressed you got it done with how heavy and humid it's been

Highly recommend Ravelry for cataloging your yarn. They already have the majority of brands in their database so you don’t have to log all that info, and you can cross reference your available stash when looking at projects. It’s a job to get it in there to begin with but once it is, it’s super useful!

I’ve been keeping my small yarn balls in jars and using them as decor 😆 Eventually I’ll wind them into scrap cakes, but for now i enjoy seeing all the colours 🧶 I didn’t realize the granny square yarn comes in a large skein, that seems a little more worth the price, i might get some. Just save that tangled yarn barf to use as stuffing 👍 Thanks for a fun video 👏

if you use those little hair clips to hold down the ends of the yarn to the label/ ball it helps with preventing tangling and helps you find the end immediately when you want to use it!

This was wonderful! I love yarn stash organizing videos. I am one of those people who will sit and detangle big knot clusters of yarn but I know it is not for everyone. For me, it is very cathartic and satisfying. I'm so glad you feel better after this!

I found this video so helpful and relatable! I don’t crochet, but I’ve assembled jewelry for 15 years now and I find the same struggles as you do, Michelle, with rebuying and organization of supplies …I love the idea of an app to help with cataloging your supply. I use lots of clear storage bags, but really anyone that’s creative knows the balance between work and organization…it’s like i can work or organize..lol..but if I’m too organized, I can’t make anything… ❤ Your camper is super cute! 🥰

hot tip for stopping the balls of yarn from unravelling: buy hair clips and clip the ends to the ball!! this has saved my life (yes i think i have a million clips but it’s better than untangling unraveled yarn😅)

I got one of those same type a grey bins from canadian tire, although i think i paid $9.99 for it. I'm actually just now putting some of my yarn into it while watching this vid! Bought it months ago but just never got around to doing it (been using it as a laundry basket, and using the lid as a tray for working on my diamond paintings xD). I'm trying to use up most of my yarn so that there's less overall lol. Having too many things makes me stressed; not getting anymore yarn until ive used up most of what I have... got projects planned for most of it but its gonna take awhile. I sold/donated some that I knew I'd never get around to using. Oh! speaking of, haven't finished video yet, but after you showing the huge heap of tangled yarn and not wanting to untangle it.... I had the same issue, and didn't want to throw it away (I dislike waste). After cutting some then giving up, I actually found someone who wanted it. There are people who enjoy detangling super tangled yarn. I gave it all to her and she somehow got all of it untangled then balled back up within a short time span. She gets tangled yarn from people etc, balls it back up, then donates it to senior centres. I thought that was neat. Just an idea. Anyways, love watching your vids!

I use rubberbands to keep my yarn from unraveling/getting tangled. It will be easier to dig in your bins without causing it to tangle again if the ends are not loose. You did a great job. So much pretty yarn ❤

Fun video. 😊 I have a love hate relationship with organizing my yarn. It’s so much work but it’s also so worth it. Multi strand projects like baskets & scrapghans are excellent ways to use up yarn (that you don’t have a project in mind for) more quickly than single stranded projects. 👋🏼👋🏼 from Mississauga 🧶💜

I live on my Excel list of yarn. Haven't found an app I liked that was also able to be used offline. Saved my file to Drive and can easily access anywhere. I even have links to yarn website so I can quickly have all details that weren't enough to have on the spreadsheet. This way I can also flag what yarn is being held for a project so it doesn't accidentally get used. Love how your sort worked out!
