A big question I ask myself when I declutter is “am I buying this for me or because someone said I look good in it” “is this me? Or someone else’s idea of me”

More than half of my closet used to contain clothes that fit under this category you mentioned. I have been decluttering, donating, and just giving away my clothes little by little for the last two years since they not only do not represent me, but also, they are not classic pieces that can stand the test of time. Then, I try to buy a new piece here and there. But for me to finally build a minimalist wardrobe, which is my desire, will probably take a long time. Thank you for this idea!

Christina Mychas talks about this. It’s called shopping for your fantasy self 😂 I did this 24/7 but finding accounts like this rn where she’s decluttering her capsule and sharing her thoughts I’ve changed my entire terrible shoping habits and just vibe to KZbin and love what I buy. One of the best things I ever did was Poshmark all my fantasy self stuff and buy things I LOVED. All the best 🎉❤

Absolutely love this video. I have clothes from the 1980s that I adore and I have trouble getting rid of. You have given me much food for thought. BTW, watched a cleaner use 4 cups of washing powder in a bathtub and put every white item into the water. She left them for 3 days to soak then put them into the washing machine. She used the soapy water to clean the bathtub afterwards. Everything came out sparkling white. I have begun a pile of whites to do this.

What you said about your wardrobe being meant to be in flux/evolving/fluid and changing with you was exactly what I needed to get over a hurdle I knew existed but couldn’t quite place; while it’s pretty easy for me to part with items that are blatant mismatches, old gifts, or “never worns”, there are so many things I still hang on to because they’re “so nice” or I always come back to them eventually because they’re familiar. Watching this and doing some genuine introspection about who I am today, coupled with the faith that if the hole is felt I can always replace the item with something more relevant, helped me let go of close to 40 items today. Thank you so much!

Give laundry stripping a try on your white t-shirt and white clothes. It works amazingly great! I have even done it on towels. We use 1 scoop of tide, 1/4 cup borax, 1/4 cup arm & hammer washing soda. Then hot water in your tub. Let is sit for hours and stir every so often. It is a crazy fun to see what happens. Truly love your videos!

You can unshrink the sweater! What I do to things I accidentally shrink is wash them and then gently tug on the sleeves and torso in all directions to stretch back out and let it hang to dry, or, they also make a solution you can put in with your wash that unshrinks clothes!

The Tan Trousers look good enough to take to a Tailor & have Altered to Fit! (Your Dry Cleaner should have one!) But get an estimate when being fitted so there's no surprises! If they cost $150 for instance & your Tailor charges $20-30 it might be worth it! But if they didn't cost that much or are well used, then you should Donate!

My trouble areas are jeans and shoes bc I can’t find much that fits me well esp in those two areas

I’ve let myself have one under the bed storage box. It has 2 dresses for date night. A versatile little black dress and one fancy silver dress. It’s winter currently so I folded up summer t shirts I don’t currently grab. I have 5 navy blue work shirts and harem pants because it gets humid where I live. / they are my putter around the house work clothes also for gardening. 3 nice pairs of jeans for dressing up. A bunch of casual shirts I know I’ll wear mostly 3/4 sleeves neutral colors. One small bag of scarves. I was getting overwhelmed with having all my seasons crammed into my small closet.

It’s been a while since this video and I suspect the shrunken sweater is loooong gone, but I’ve read somewhere that you can use some “magic” concoction to bring your small wool sweaters back to its almost original size. You will have to google it bc I don’t remember exactly what’s in it hints aowmtjing along the lines of water and oil and soap mixed all together. You let it sit and then stretch it back to size, gently. Also! For your whites I recommend Mr. Rajiv Surendra. He has a a KZbin video on it. He’s got great videos overall. Very cool guy ❤

it definitely is therapeutic! once I get the energy to do it anyway 🙈 i think a capsule wardrobe is just a personal preference, as long as you are happy it's all going to the same point. i'm still trying to figure out the right balance too, but i'm moving in the direction of doing a few things well and letting go of the rest.

@hiannieem2 жыл бұрын
Aw thank you! Wow such a good suggestion!! With kids, I guess the answer is kind of? It’s not a formal process so I’m not sure if you’d want a whole video. Here’s what I do ☺️ what I buy for my daughter is truly minimal. But she gets a lot of fun clothes from family which she loves so I never restrict that! We have to declutter her closet probably 4 times a year as well or else it’s unmanageable for her (and I’m no laundromat 🙃)

Oil stain; use dish detergent (not Ajax) I've used Palmolive and some other gentler ones. The are specifically designed to break up grease. My philosophy is; if it doesn't come out or discolors the item, I've lost nothing. I would suggest wetting the item first before using the detergent and use cold water.

Best tip for oil stains is baby powder! Works every time. Just tap some on the oil and let it sit. It will soak up all the oil, sometimes I have to tap off the first batch of powder and do it again. Then wash as usual. It is fail proof! ❤
