Hi! I'm so proud of you! I sell real estate, and the #1 issue people struggle with when moving is decluttering and accessing what to keep. I've seen it all, couples argue, debates, tears, and even heirs that don't want any of the accumulated stuff that was gathered and stored for years. It really saddens me for the client, to think how many hours of their lives were spent to pay, store and upkeep all of the unnecessary items that they eventually just discard and that Noone they love wants. You're ahead of the game being in your 20s and on the right track.. I have a 18 year old and I am really trying to get her to understand this..

The way you ''changed'' tops in the same spot is not easy to put together, you must have found a great strategy to be able to do that so well! I love your wardrobe and I realise that's been ages since I haven't bought any clothes. Back in the days I used to buy so many I cannot even start to describe now I really don't care about clothes anymore, I try to have something just so I can look decent in front of the camera if now I would not buy any for years :) You are right, we do change in time! I definitely agree about decluttering too much all at once. I made that mistake when I first wanted to declutter my wardrobe and I ended up buying even more because I got rid of too many things at once. I'm blessed to live in a country that has all four seasons, so my little trick is to put away my summer/spring or winter/autumn clothes and then re-discover them and simultaneously fall in love with them all over again when the seasons change. Your video, as always, is a joy to watch ♥

I so agree on that. I thing we need to understand it's okay to have stuff if we make use out of it and even if we don't there might be a time when there can be a use. I love this! I'm currently journeying through decluttering my life, and just last week I tackled my wardrobe, again. The guidelines I gave myself were simple, but even still difficult at times. First guideline, if it wasn't comfortable to wear it had to go. So blouses that pulled across the back, or rode up my armpits gone. If it was part of who I used to be (office M) it could go if I wanted it to, so all the suits and dress pants. Fancy dresses, we have a free prom dress charity where I live so someone else could love my party dresses, because again, those were for a different M. But here's the thing, I couldn't commit to a specific number of pieces, because Canada has some serious seasons. Plus 40C summers, -25C winters. So I need a variety of layers to address that, not limiting myself to a number made my process easier. A couple of days after I finished I went to an outdoor evening party and I wore 3 things that I loved and felt so good in. Getting rid of my old non-favourite, don't fit me right, stuff let me focus on the pieces that truly bring me pleasure and make me feel good in my clothing, it was so rewarding. Thanks for sharing your journey inspired me to start my own 💜

Oh how I love every item here and such a pretty and tidy wardrobe but oh how seemingly out of reach for my reality. I live in Canada which means that apart from the beautiful summer things you have here there are also hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, coats and jackets for every type of conceivable weather, not to mention cross-country skiing clothing which is different from downhill skiing clothing, which is different from outdoor hiking gear, and so on. I even have a specific getup just for hours spent shovelling snow so I don’t overheat or freeze. I find that minimalistic approaches often don’t factor in different types of weather as well as different kinds of sports. I try to go multi-purpose as often as possible but have discovered that specific gear is often necessary to really be comfortable for hours at a time in different conditions. I aspire to a simple yet stunning wardrobe like this.

Storing my T-shirts or sweaters (anything which doesn't require hangers) in neat horisontal lines instead of one big vertical pile really helped me see how many of them I really posses, and how little I wear, say one of the T-shirts during hot summer period because there so many. Since then I try to re-visit my closet and drawers every now and then, much oftener than I used to. Visualization works better for me than conscious efforts or will power). Thank you for your calm and to-the-point presentation, and of course, for sharing this with us.

I know you commented this a year ago, but I definitely relate as I'm newly in my 40's, and still adjusting to being a single divorcee. The love of colorful fashion by way of consumerism is another change in me. I found myself wearing only black for years, and tried so hard to shake out of it until now. I'm just going to embrace it! I've never been this neutrals girl, but now that I'm leaning into it, I'm falling in love with my wardrobe again and I like the way I look in my skin. I feel like me! You see me and not the bright patterned clothes with edgdy accessories. You just see me, and I'm plenty interesting, and plenty beautiful. I'm also more modest now, which is another change but I feel even more feminine somehow (and I don't necessarily mean long ruffled dresses). Just covered up. Simple but elegant clothes. I'm understanding the value in buying basics. Something I realize my old wardrobe was always lacking, and caused those "I don't have anything to wear" meltdowns lol. Now I have good quality basic pieces in my closet, and feel confident there's always a good outfit waiting for me there. I've been disabled for most of my life, but unable to work only 10 yrs. When I see ppl, I want to look much better than I'm feeling lol. So they don't worry about me. I'm finally putting together a more sophisticated boho loungewear capsule wardrobe that I've always wanted. Hot tip- doing a seasonal color analysis and also finding my "essence" have both narrowed things down when deciding which clothes go and which clothes I already own are in balance with my natural features. (I did both with the help of youtube university and a couple friends over to do a "draping" party one afternoon). Now that my inner novelist has vomited all over this comment section, I'm curious where you're at now with your clothing journey. Are you becoming more minimalist as you age? What fabrics are you more drawn to vs in the past? Take good care

This is just what I needed to hear today. Post-COVID, working from home part of the week, turning 52 soon and navigating perimenopause, I have struggled with finding a style to suit my new lifestyle and changing body for the past 18 months. This has been all the more frustrating because I still love fashion. Just your opening statement was enough to get me to watch the entire video. Thank you for being so honest and straightforward about this topic. I've just done a major declutter, reducing my wardrobe by about 70% but some items I just couldn't let go of and I was critical of myself for not just 'throwing them on the donate pile'. I have now tucked some items safely away along with out-of-season clothes and now feel more organised.

I’m a frustrated minimalist but I know I’m in the middle of being a hoarder and a minimalist - an essentialist 😅 I have two children, a 13yo boy and 9yo daughter & have been preaching about living with less. My boy has been wearing the same jogger pants eversince we got him that. Then I sometimes complain as to why he keeps using the same pants and shirts over and over everytime we go out. Then he answered “I guess I’m a minimalist. I find these okay.” he said 😂 Oh I almost forgot how I always remind them of not owning stuff they don’t need. Same!!! Other than some favourite pieces that don’t fit, which I’ve kept because my weight has fluctuated with my health and I’m also not ready to let them go, my wardrobe is a similar size. But I’m a lot less happy with it because it doesn’t coordinate well or fit my needs! I’m planning to use dye to help with things not matching. A while ago I bought a blue-green dress that just didn’t look quite right on me, but it fit which is a big struggle for me so I got it anyway and dyed it with a yellow dye. Now it’s a warmer green that looks great on me! It’s inspired me to do the same with some of my other clothes and I hope that idea might help you with your impulsively-picked wardrobe too :) Just a warning that polyester is the most difficult to dye!

This is wonderful. Very realistic on how much clothes each of us may need and able to work with. Some of us may need more than others due to jobs and lifestyle. To pick a random number of clothing and stick to the "number" is not practical. Minimalism is good only if it works for us, otherwise it will become a temporary trend and will not last. Thanks for the video. I like your selection of clothing... cute and simple.

Thanks so much for sharing your minimalist wardrobe! It's inspiring and calming. I'm currently downsizing my wardrobe: determined to remove non-earthy colours sweaters and the large amount of bottom/pants that just cluttered around (e.g. many new ski pants etc). I think the biggest challenge is to get rid of coats/ jackets and shoes(heels!). I have bought many great quality and fashionable items over the years, they always look good and very practical in use(especially in cold snowy winter), so I think it adds more value to keep them than getting rid of them. I'm actually quiet mindful (already) and only getting one good quality (that I know will last) outer wear per year to add to the collection. If I relocate to a warmer climate, it will definitely help to become more minimalist :)

Your styling is ON POINT! I absolutely loved every piece you showed an the color palette is so beautiful and elegant. It helps that you are so attractively shaped. As a much “heavier” person - I struggle with finding ANYTHING I can love - and find myself with a collection of items I’ve just settled for. I know the answer - just lose the extra weight, but reality is not an overnight fix for a lifetime struggle. This wardrobe is motivating and just lovely! Thank you for sharing! 💕

Getting a few things tailored/altered can also be really helpful!! I don’t think societal expectations help the situation, it’s normal and even healthy to gain a bit of weight with age and there’s so many other factors too. But I’ve also noticed larger size clothes are often made with less thought. They seem to either scale up smaller clothes or make them like tents, so little thought seems to be put into creating clothes for bigger bodies. No wonder nothing ever feels quite right!

I love your advice about hanging onto 'maybe' items. I've decluttered items in haste that I didn't want to wear anymore, only to look for something months later and realize I donated it 🥲 I've learned I go through style cycles and I eventually go back to wearing the things I put aside. I love that long blue floral dress by the way 💙 Also, do you think you would make an updated hair and makeup video? ☺

Good tips. Having lots of clothes is overrated. I don't know if I can call my wardrobe minimalist yet, but I do feel tempted by a more minimalist lifestyle. I like to dress in a casual, yet slightly alternative (goth, if you will) fashion. So, this means you'll almost always see me in leggings with dark skirts or dresses. Even when I choose to wear a dressier top, skirt, or dress, my leggings, hairstyle, accessories, and shoes stay the same. I pretty much live in black low-top Converses, though I keep a pair of Vans slip-ons as backup shoes. I don't see the appeal of having multiple pairs of shoes, and I would not be caught dead in most feminine shoes. Three of my dresses are, while pretty, difficult for me to put on and take off because they don't have any stretch. I may or may not donate them at some point in the near future.

what a great video on minimalist wardrobe! thank you very much! a few days ago I also published a video on the topic of a minimalist wardrobe, but after watching your video, I understand that I still have room to grow in the matter of wardrobe... once again, thank you very much for your video! ❤️

Basically I think about it like this, you know those few pieces of clothing that are just your GO TOs, always dirty, worn during the day and as PJs just because they’re THAT COMFY/PERFECT. I’ve been trying to take make more and more of my wardrobe filled with these items so I always have things wear that are clean, comfortable, look presentable and that I’ll keep for a while.

Such a beautiful and functional wardrobe. I live in Finland so it is hard to create a warbrobe like this, because of the seasons... weather can be anything between -30 in winter to +30 celsius in summer, plus you need different gear for windy or rainy days as well.

I live in Alaska with similar fluctuations! I share in the challenge of a simple wardrobe to adapt to the weather. In my experience, I have found that articles made with natural materials like wool and silk stay in my closet longer than others if they are the right colors. Wool blend socks and cardigans are a permanent for my wardrobe, and silk blend blouses and night gowns are versatile year round. I have heard good things about linen, but I have not had experience with it. Something else to consider is about dresses for ladies; long dresses (ankle to mid-calf) can be dressed well in hot or cold! Add in tights, a warm under layer shirt, and warm cardigan for the winter while stockings or shorts underneath for the summer heat. Wishing you well! May the Lord bless and keep you as you strive to simplify your wardrobe!

Thank you for this! I grew up in a warm climate and now live in a cold climate. Even though I’ve been here a long time I still don’t know how to dress and I prefer clothes for warmer weather, layers require much more thought for me but what you said is really helpful. I didn’t feel like myself in the styles most people wear here, but being able to adapt some of the pieces I do love should make a big difference! I absolutely love linen for warmer weather. I know historically (in at least some parts of Europe) it was also used for undergarments as the layer closest to the skin, regardless of weather, but I think cotton has taken its place for the most part even though it’s not quite as breathable as linen

I love when you said: "but I don't obsess over the amount of items in my closet" because I think that's the key, not get too much, but not be pressured to have too little :)

Thanks, Sophie, for the content & motivation to downsize my wardrobe, more managable regardless of available storage space. ❤

Thank you! It is like finding a sister! You have the same life filosphy and same taste of clothing as I do. But never sat to plan my wardrobe. I am a minimalist person but always have trouble at dressing myself. I am a nurse, wife and a mother so I didn’t pay much attention to my wardrobe. Thanks for the tips! They are very useful to me

All my clothes fit in one drawer and my dresses are in my closet. I used to have only 3 dresses for a while but I have increased it. I find that I wear dresses more than anything, so now my drawer is emptying out while my closet is getting more full but more beautiful and joyful. I very much enjoyed this video and the aesthetic you have too. You and I are similar. . .where we tend to have companies that are sustainable/bcorp/fair trade but also long lasting types of clothing. I saw names I have bought from, so I really love that.

This is so great, thank you. I have often times found myself wanting to get linen pieces, but I suspect they will take time with ironing since the fabric wrinkles. How do you manage this aspect, especially since you mentioned at the end that you don't want to take too much time with managing your clothes. That is something important to me also, but I do recognize the value of natural fibers, such as linen, and would enjoy the light, airy quality of it, as this is also something important to how my own clothes are for me. Thank you. I love your videos. I came upon your channel last week and have seen so many of your videos at this point. I love how calming it is to listen to you talk. I've been so stressed lately with many changes going on and listening to you helps me relax a bit within it all. And I can't help but notice you have an amazing way of what you shine light on within what you convey. So helpful. Thank you.

I often watch slow living an minimalism videos and wish I have that life, but if there's one thing that I'm proud I'm already doing is building a minimal wardrobe. It looks a lot like the one in this video and it can be a lot better but still I'm so happy with it and exited about how I can improve it.
