Great video. I just bought the Yost screw... which came with no instructions. And using a Chris Schwarz book... which also lacks details about mounting the vise screw. Found a bunch of KZbin videos on using the screw... but you are the ONLY one who actually seemed to know what he was doing! THANKS. And now I'm thinking of using the wedge, as that seems easy to use and adjust. (Alas, your hickory does look a lot nicer than my workbench. :-)

That is the most beautiful leg vise I've ever seen. The jumbled grain in that piece of hickory was a great choice, and oiling it brought out the beauty of the piece. Love your simple solution for adjusting the foot of the vise.

What he was saying is that no one will ever see the holes screws or dowel wise, like he said in his southern yellow pine woodworking bench, I guess he got some comments about how the screws were keeping some people up at night, but it shouldn’t matter because, they will never ever see them.

Jay that Hickory has some wicked grain in it..Great job. This spring I'm going to try and make a bench like this. I'm a beginning woodworker. I seen one of your vids back when you were at the apartment complex and you got me started on woodworking. Being an Amputee and in a wheelchair your vids got me through the 8 months I was in the hospital. So Thank you Jay...

I have just recently gotten into woodworking and this is one of the first projects on my list. I've watched several videos on making a leg vise and it amazes me seeing the beauty you have created here. This video is 2 years old and I have not seen another video that even compares to this build. I will give credit to Rex Krueger. His video on making the cheap version of the leg vise out of pine is what led me to your channel. Keep up the great work as I binge watch your videos.

That is an excellent idea. It occurred to me that for your "dowel issue" you could have used a piece of 3/4 inch cold rolled steel. You won't flex that and it could have remained on the outside of the leg. Just a thought. I realize this was 5 years ago.
