Join us on another intriguing journey on Adventures into History as Dan and I explore the hidden Carter Cemetery in Harris County, Georgia. Nestled deep within the woods, this site holds more than just the remains of the past; it houses a poignant story marked by a striking monument placed in the 1960s.
In this episode, we uncover the tragic history behind the monument's placement, delving into the layers of stories engraved in stone and whispered by the surrounding forest. As we walk through the cemetery, we read and reflect on the inscriptions that offer a glimpse into the lives and legacies intertwined with this sacred ground.
Plus, don't miss a special moment as Dan takes the opportunity to express his gratitude for a unique gift from one of our dedicated viewers. This episode is not only a journey through history but also a celebration of the community that keeps our adventures alive. Join us as we continue to explore, learn, and remember.

My husband was an amateur genealogist. His family was related to Griffins from Georgia, and probably related to another branch of these Griffins. He was related to Jimmy Carter somehow, and Elvis Presley through the Whites. He found out that his great-grandfather was buried in an unmarked grave, and dragged one of his cousins around Georgia until they found the grave, then raised subscriptions in the family to buy a marker. Being his wife was interesting, even if it did mean I got dragged to one too many black widow infested graveyards in the woods.

I'm just thrilled that it came from my state! I knew they were made here, but surely they're made in other Southern states as well. I live near Berea, Ky, where many beautiful crafts are made and sold, and I'm sure one could be found there. I have one myself, but it's not as attractive as Dan's.

Peaceful place. Dan, thank you for the story telling, and that is a great snake stick. Excellent video, Robert. 👍👍❣️❣️

What a beautiful epitaph on the back of the stone. I've not heard that one before. Yes, it's definitely sad about the man who was killed leaving there. If it happened at night, or dusk, I'm sure the lack of proper light to see the road was a factor. Doubt they were texting.😉 I'm glad you've identified this little family gravesite. Gosh, it's been hidden for so long. It's a nice site, too. Serene, and quiet.

Hi love your program. I’m from Illinois. I can’t do my genealogy for my Chicago area cemeteries because I’m afraid to go in neighborhoods now. 😮 I have a question for you I do have relatives in Oklahoma, Alabama many in south. I notice when I found one of my relatives he had that big long headstone that laid flat. I have never seen these in Illinois. And they seem that this much marble would cost a lot of money. When I watch you walk through these cemeteries many have these long full size marble slabs. Why do they put them on graves? They are very nice looking. I prepaid my funeral and where the cemetery where much of my family are they have to have small bronze and they are 4-6 thousand. Also, sadly I have a couple unfortunately 2 relatives buried in the old Bryce Hospital on the KZbin video of old Bryce in Tuscaloosa it’s a scary place. Many don’t have markers and sticks with pink tags on them. Have you ever thought of going there to explore? Just wondering. Sone I believe are buried right next to the road. I was wondering also who I would call. But, wondered if you ever thought of inquiring to go there. Wish I could go to Chicago and use that D2 on some of the graves of my gr gr grandfather. But, like I said it’s not good neighborhoods and scary. I am almost 70. Also why are the graves by you in Georgia elevated also like with marble or bricks. I have seen them on tv in Israel. Thank you ❤
