So true. I build greenhouses and the stuff on the ,Arkwright has all those hidden fees. Shipping, grading, and base foundation are the main extra costs. I’m lucky I got a lot of extras from a farmer I helped build big commercial greenhouses for. I got polycarbonate scrap free doors and a blower all free. I ended up under $2,000 for a 11”x22” double polyethylene inflated post framed lean to greenhouse with a door on each side and the back wall insulated, plus I got shade cloth and 4 extra layers of polyethylene. If I got all that new it would have been $3,500 to $4,000. I’m using cheap solar motion lights for $10 for 2, my heater is 2nd hand for under $15. The inflation blower is on a timer on for 15 min off for an hour, because I made a polyethylene Bellow between the layers to hold the air for up to 1.5 hours depending on the season. I also built a 7.5”x7.5”x10.5” tall mobile single layer wood framed greenhouse for under $700 in materials and gas that would sell for around $1,300 with the base on it already and an extra layer, new door and window.

Wow. You have done a lot. I think it’s so important to let people know the cost of things. Sometimes we get excited and don’t do all the research. I’m glad I did the research ahead of time. Main killer for me was the cost of all the materials going up from the time I ordered and when I started building. I still would have purchased it. I love it !! Thanks for the comments

You can obviously cut down on some costs without water and electricity but I think it is worth it. I'll be doing a video at my one year mark of having it to talk about what I would change and not what I really like after a year in operation.

We're putting in a smaller kit for my wife so she can start her seedlings there instead of every window in the house (plywood shelves in all windows every spring. We're in Montreal Quebec so we get about 80 inches of snow per year. But spring comes a little late and fall ends a little early.

Vent window has a chain to stop it ripping it off

Very true, but not in 65 mph winds. The chains cannot hold what is basically a sail when wind gusts get that high.

We unfortunately bought their sungrow greenhouse and wished we hadn't. I could have built a better greenhouse using wood. The whole project was nothing but a pain. They have several ways to view the instructions and they often inflict each other, they shorted the screws, and we had to buy a sheet of polycarbonate because the top pieces were not cut big enough.

I've been using that thermostat for years. It can overheat and malfunction so keep that in mind. I lost some plants because of it. Very disappointing.

I am assembling a planta currently and a it's alot more work than they let on. I've have 4" concrete on 6" gravel base to secure it. Unfortunately my kit was missing brackets and their after sales support is very slow to ship these parts. Total cost $4331.50 CDN.

Yes, and in areas where strong gusts of wind are not normal I would think those work great but even with a chain in this area it would be ripped off. If the winds (which they have ) will tear off the tin on my roof, then I am sure it will blow off some polycarbonate. Thanks for the feedback. Have a great day.

If you are mechanically minded you can easily build on your own. I only needed someone to only hold the panels when I installed. Hope this helps.

If you get it with a tornado, you will lose the entire Greenhouse. Planta houses should have exhaust fans, only way to cool and move air thru, They do not. I have three greenhouses and have had the same brand for 45 years. Best greenhouses in the country come from Santa Barbara Greenhouse Co out of Oxnard, Ca.

Thanks for that info. I put two 20” fans in the greenhouse and I have been able to keep it cool. Not sure what greenhouse will survive a tornado around here because most houses don’t. 👍. Thanks again for the info

@@StewartFarmApiary My guess is that a greenhouses's shape will resist defenitly more then walls/roof with all thoses edges facing the wind. Just dont leave doors or windows open.

@@phylipvaliquette2805 Thanks for the comments - I have actually learned that you can cool this greenhouse with the doors open in normal weather really nicely. I plan to possibly put a few of the windows in this autumn when it cools down and just manually open and close them so I can be sure not to have them open for the high winds. I have a question… do you are going to use this for business growth plants and sale them.. if not … I don’t think you are going to spend that much money if you buy vegetables in the store for life .. because you still have to plants seed fertilizer.. your time to grow it … so figure it up see if wort it ..??

Thanks for the question. I don't use fertilizer unless it is my own compost. I grow for my family and sell vegetables at the market along with things I propagate. I was able to pay for the core greenhouse in one year at the market. It is well worth it for more than the money. It is a hobby and I have schools come to tour that farm and this is part of it. I enjoy the hobby so in reality, there isn't a cost you can put on happiness. Have a great week. Thanks for reaching out.

I am in the Deep South. We have unexpected last minute tornados that come through the area. We also have straight line winds. The windows that you can buy for this greenhouse are controlled by mechanisms using wax and they expand a cylinder to open the windows based on heat. If the outside temperatures are high ( as during tornado season) and there is no one to manually lower the vent windows then they will act as a sail and be ripped off the greenhouse. This is what I’m speaking of when I mention windows. Many people with greenhouses are not around 24 hours a day and can make adjustments if bad weather sneaks up. My point is I would rather not put them in and not risk the greenhouse being torn up because I couldn’t get there to lower the windows before the wind. Hope this helps. Have a great week.
