Can I cut my lime light hydrangeas in the fall? I live in Massachusetts & won’t be around in the Spring to prune them.

To prune or propagate? You can cut and propagate with a root hormone and keep out of the cold in non direct sunlight all winter. Hope this helps. Thanks

Until a big tree comes down in storm. I’m going through this decision on a new property right now. Woven gets crushed most times when a big tree comes down. . I had a huge locust tree come down with my high fence. Eight strands of high tensile and only busted the two top plastic connect loose on two post. With high tensile I run one strand of barb wire directly on the ground. Then 8 strands for goats. I keep it close at the bottom then spacing gets larger just like the woven wire people buy. You could go every 10 feet but I would prefer every eight. If it’s for cows, I would only run it like that gentleman has it right there. If the neighbors Chihuahua comes underneath. Bad Chihuahua I guess.😂 and a Great Pyrenees for the record would walk right under that fence if they wanted to. Been there done that. Guard dogs need electric on both sides at the bottom to keep them in lol

When I Installed my Pat's easy change I went down to Tractor supply and purchased a 2 or 3 extra top links for my Kubota L3400 for $30 each. The factory top link still works on my tiller, but not on my brush hog nor my snow blower, I just leave the top links on my attachments as the ones at TSC are thicker and do not fit the wire hanger for the top link thats on the back of my tractor. Something to think about is if you have implements that have the pins on the inside rather than the outside, of the triangle that makes up the arms on top link. I have a large snow blower and the top of the Pat's hits the inside of the steel going between cat 1 pints the top link mount. I have to have the snow blower on blocks so that tower on the the Pat's clears it in order to connect. The other irksome point on the Pat's is the cat 1 lynch pin washers. I did not need them on my 3point without the pats but I do on the Pat's. The washers online are 3-$6 a peace. Tilling in our rocky soil I've lost pins and washers. I think the kit only come with 6 washers and I've robbed them off all my other equipment so its time to order more. The weakest point on the Pat's themselves is the return spring that keeps the locking levers in place, the spring on both of my Pat's assemblies have busted, so I have to use fence wire to keep the arms and locking levers in place. I still love these they make switching out implements so much faster, but they are not without their quirks.

Im having trouble finding the 3 part series fo this. Where is part 2? Did you scratch up the pasture before seeding or direct sow into existing grass?
@StewartFarmApiary

I direct seed into the grass and then cut the grass. The cut grass acts as a layer of soil to protect the seed and hold moister. I do not disturb the soil at all. Sorry you can't find the other video. Have a great week.

We have sheep and I went the high tensile electric way to start. Then just 2 days ago I watched a neighbors dog run straight through it. I instantly went and bought the red brand woven wire and will putting up shortly. I wish I would have seen this video to begin with, but you live and you learn. How well do you reckon the woven wire protects against dogs and coyotes? I can only assume it’s much safer. Anyway, thanks for the video!

I’m sorry to hear about your experience. I’ve had great success with my woven wire. Save your high tensile and use it as a one line hot wire on the inside just 18” above the ground. This is more to keep the sheep (goats more than sheep) from leaning up against the woven wire when shedding fur. Have a great week.

Just about to finish mine. 6x3 meters or 20x10 feet. Did a pretty deep footer 50cm or 1.64 feet. Dug the trenches with a shovel, did all the work myself. On top of the foundation a layed a wall out of bricks, height of 4 bricks, then wooden planks screwed in to the bricks. On top of all that the greenhouse. Gets about 6 hours of direct sunlight. Could borrow some of the tools needed from friends. Love the series! The reason a north/south orientation is preferable is regardless of your latitude there will be equal full sun to all plants in the greenhouse. East/west orientation will put more sun on the south face in the spring and fall. If you’re trying to extend the growing season, N/S works best. If you have issues with too much sun, shade fabric is the answer.
@StewartFarmApiary
@StewartFarmApiary Ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. I have not had any trouble with equal sun. The greenhouse is mainly for germination-young growth, and off season warmth for perennials. I use a shade fabric ( 50%) all summer. Thanks again - have a great week.

How did yow anchor down the wood frame?
@StewartFarmApiary
@StewartFarmApiary Ай бұрын
I didn't. I have a friend that is an engineer and he calculated the weight and height of the structure as well as the placement. There was not a need in my case. My winds come from the west - I positioned the greenhouse to where the least amount of wind resistance would be where the doors are and it also added to airflow ( which has greatly helped to reduce the heat in the summer). I hope this helps............with the 6x6 treated and it only being 8' tall there just wasn't a reason. I also have a lot of trees around the greenhouse which cuts down on wind resistance also.

We find it better to brodcast the seed first ... and then chop & drop over top of the seed. Significantly more seed germinates that way in our Fields.

I am in the south of the united states so it is very dry in the autumn months. If you are doing this for pasture and not hunting then you can get away with waiting a while to plant and then time it around some rain when it cools down. In the past I have planted on Labor Day weekend but this year I will closer to october. Temps will still be up and there will be some rain. check your lime levels also. Takes about a year for the lime to really get in and until then you may loose a good amount of germination. Also, once lime levels are up, lightly harrow the ground - you will activate some seeds in the soil that did not germinate because the levels were low. I hope this helps.

@@StewartFarmApiary I have a potting shed and I am just getting ready to build a new foundation for another garden shed, so I have been watching hundreds of videos on this. The professional contractors are all recommending these types of screws with washers: TimberLOK by FastenMaster Black Ecoat Hex-Head Exterior Structural Wood Screws. They predrill to get the screw started and it goes in easy. NONE of the videos I watched about building a base have ever considered the rat wall when in the initial stages. It's always an afterthought once an animal has done all the damage. It's a lot easier to build a rat wall at beginning then after your building is contructed.

Hey, nice helpful video, thanks. A couple of questions for you - how has this aerator worked out for you? I watched the video and bought almost the exact same one. I have found it to be a bear to hook up by myself - pretty much have to be exactly lined up both back distance and side to side. Got any suggestions or remedys? I am thinking i might try to put a trailer coupler on mine. I can not weld so i will kind of bolt it to the existing connector. Should help with the occasional very short backup i have cencountered. Also will drop the need for an additional type connector. Any other thoughts / updates? Thanks.

Great question - easy fix. I pull the pins on the lift bars on back to where they will both widen or close. Put a drawbar in your holes and it will allow the drawbar to move from left to right. Ease tractor back and adjust right to left to fit the middle hole on drawbar. If you have telescoping lifter arms you can connect drawbar to aerator first and then put one end in lift bar hole then muscle the over on. I have put handle on top of cinder block to allow easy backing up also. I hope this helps. I still love this thing. I’ve started overseeding my pastures then running aerator over after seeding. Pushes seed to ground and first rain the seeds fall in holes and I have much more success. I hope this helps. Have a great week

Ha! Great answer thank you. I just got my aerator and have only hooked it to my side by side. First connect not too bad - no water. Second - w water - what a bear. I did put a fiber glass rod on my hitch and one in the ground - by the connect rod - helps but not great. I like using the utv - faster. Was going g around some cow patties in the field. Decided too much effort to avoid. Started running over patties - once stopped - what a mess on the back of the utv. A few things to learn. Thanks
