The "golf ball" is a Doppler radar. Highly accurate, it provides data for the imagery of rain, snowfall, etc that we see on the weather reports.

I have never heard of this area and I have lived here my whole life. My dad used to take my little sister and I hiking to Bear flats, and even around the area of Hell's Gate up around the rim. Years ago. My husband and I love Heigler's creek and took our kids a lot when they were little. Lots of wild berries up there too. Then there is Beaver creek, which is another really pretty area. Used to camp out there when we were kids. I believe the further you go down the river you will come across ruins up in the cave. I remember seeing that one time when we were all playing in the creek and exploring. It all reminded me of Indiana Jones. Arizona is an amazing state, love where I was born and raised.

The "golf Ball" is the FAA's Humboldt Mountain Air Route Surveillance Radar (ARSR). It is used by Air Traffic Controllers to guide airplanes in the enroute phase of flight. It can feed data to both Terminal RADARS at airports and Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCC) . It is not used for weather tracking!

Not another soul in sight. Occasionally wild horses wander through the area along with cattle and used to have sheep out that way. Some advice, do not go out into the desert without knowing what you are doing!! Do not entice others to do so. Seven Springs actually appears in a very early John Wayne movie, what it once looked like. My homeland is beautiful, it is very nice to see it in your video presentation. My camp, mine is about 52 miles north of your location on the road? north. Basque cabin built long ago.

This hike is not for the feeble-spirited that’s for sure. Just the drive up with the steep drops … I’m out. Bears, snakes … no cell phone reception. I’m fainting. BUT thank you sooo much for making the hike and video-journaling the beauty of it … the clear running creeks, the water springs, the cattle, couple of lobsters, butterfly swarms and cactus pear. As another commentator said … allowing us to live a hike we are unable to do vicariously thru this video. God bless.

Wearing cowboy boots in case you run into a rattler? There's one you don't need to be concerned about thanks to the rock throwers. Unless the leather is loose and away from your skin the rattler can bite right through it. Every bit of material is helpful but a standard boot such as a cowboy boot alone isn't much protection against rattlers. If your concerned about them they make snake proof boots. I've got a pair and I still wouldn't push it just to see if they really are snake proof.
@LivinginArizona
@LivinginArizona 3 жыл бұрын
Well as you said every layer counts. I mean it also depends on how it strikes. It would certainly protect against a graze. But a full on bite, those fangs are getting through yes.
